Mattel Proton Pack - speculation

To be perfectly fair, the PKE meter is great. Coincidentally, the Matty used the same materials as the real ones and has the exact same functionalities, so aside from a few inaccuracies, it's exactly the same as the real prop. However, the trap, even with all its bells and whistles, still looks like a big clunky toy compared to any fan-made trap (even a resin one) So yeah, I guess you have to respect each other for what they are.

I never owned a resin/metal/wood trap with real parts... The Matty trap is good enough for me...

I want to wear it one the belt, and the proton pack is the main part of the outfit, so everyone will look at the pack, and not the trap...

I like the trap, but of course other traps are more acurate, especially the pedal, pedal is the worst on the whole trap, I think...

If by same materials you mean a plastic body, then sure. But side by side you can see much of the accuracy problems. There is still the fact it's a toy. The Trap is a toy too, but looks great next to made traps and the stunt GB2 trap as well. Its not bad at all dimensionally.

Regardless, hand made will always trump the toys, so Proton Pack or not it will be up to the consumer what they want, and will not devalue the handmade ones.

I was doubting they'd end up producing a pack due to the sheer size and expense to build one even remotely accurately. But after hearing about delays pushing the launch back to early next year, a pack would certainly be complex enough to have significant production delays.

Although I still won't be surprised to see them just release the goggles (I think the gigameter is too obscure and overlaps with the PKE meter category of prop).

I would be interested in seeing how well they could pull off a proton pack but after having made my own last fall, not obsessed with the thought of them releasing one.

Whilst I think a full pack and thrower is unlikely, I really do believe that if matty did end up doing this (an I mean a basic idealised pack on an alice with lights and sound) in the sub $500 bracket, it would sell out V quickly.

Say what you want about the PKE and trap, but they were actually quite amazing for the low price. They sold out quick and demand is still high.

Matty need to stop producing GB figures and focus on GB props.

This teaser showed up from Mattel which is obviously a proton pack with some other stuff thrown in there.

If they released the Proton Pack there would be a lot of sad folks that spent hundreds or thousands to get an accurate pack over the years.

That's the funniest thing I've read in a long time. It's sentiments like this that will be the biggest problem with Mattel doing a proton pack.

I won't be upset at all because I know Mattel can never reproduce the Proton Pack the way I have my own.

I'm hoping they re-release the Ghost Trap...I missed out last time. I just want to collect what Mattel has to offer. I'm in no way looking to replace Mattel props to my own props. Just collector items to me.

Yeah, that'll be it then! Good thought. Of course, that could apply to the pack too (thinks about the inflatable pack...:sick).

Not if they make the back with no alice frame. Who knows? When do they usually display this stuff? Are they waiting for today or tomorrow? I know the hoverboard is a big thing there right now.
