Mandalorian Season 3

They were those spider droids in Jabba's Palace when C3PO and R2D2 enter. The monks thought that if they lose their physical bodies and have their brains carried in glass bowls by droids, it will lead to true enlightenment...I'm probably paraphrasing from what I've read about them.

TazMan2000
In other words, they were never going to get a date, and they knew it!

He didn’t use that actual word. He said it in Mandonese. The galactic translator used the word spelunking so that we would understand.

I'm actually surprised they haven't used any of the Mandalorian developed in the Republic Commando novels in this series so far. They did have Sabine speak a Mandolorian greeting when she went back home in the Rebels show. Nothing since then. You would think that some of the Death Watch people, being extremists, might only speak Mando.

Me, neither. I get that the characters have to be drawn broadly to appeal to the kids, but Peli is broad to the point of annoying caricature.

“Andor” really did spoil us.

Funny how we each took something different from that scene.

My read was that it was just supposed to be funny how she played that jerky Rodian by stealing his parts and then selling them back to him at an inflated fee. Like, what Favs was shooting for was for us to just chuckle and say, “Ohhh, that’s our Peli! Such a rascal!

Maybe I’m just getting old, but just because somebody is an *******, that doesn’t make it funny or charming to steal from them.
I kinda feel like this is a sensitive topic because IRL mechanic service often feels like robbery. It cuts a little deep and the humor isn’t so humorous if your the victim.

I am sorry but this sucks.

IG-11, who I loved, was blown to smithereens.

He really needs a droid to test air? When he goes around the world in a "Spaceship. ' Kind of like AC. You really need it in Arizona.

Yeah, his suit can seal, but can't test air.

No one ever since the bombing swung by to see if the planet is livable

He sank quicker than she went down using her jetpack when she went into the water a few seconds after him.

No Gina,... FU$& Disney

Two episodes wasted, having done nothing.

Yeah, another big CGI animal for someone to ride.

Picking apart a 40 year old movie you have seen 100 times is one thing. But this crap seams like it was written by children who do not care. It's obvious flaws are noticeable as it's being viewed the 1st time.

We are all like abused spouses hoping this time will be different and then super happy we only get hit a few times.

I liked this show, despite a lot of questionable things, but this is hot garbage. Ready to sell all my Mando crap and move on from Star Wars.

Nothing good since 83

I warned you.

Just my humble, but always correct opinion.

Same to you!! (y)
Fellow Arizonan?

This is not meant to be sarcastic against anyone in particular, but I do think it’s funny that we complain about an earth term being used in the show. Yet, nobody is bothered that a long time ago in a galaxy far far away bike troopers are using a bag from earth World War II to carry a green Baby around in.

OK, but this literally was robbery.

If Peli is now the kind of person who works in cahoots with the Jawas to strip a speeder and then sell the parts back to the victim, I guess I just took it as high-probability that her prices (parts + labor) weren’t exactly going to be fair and reasonable, either.

Talk of atmospheres and poking about in the dark with booga booga monsters everywhere...

What exactly is the tech in those helmets supposed to be?
This is a good question. It doesn't seem to be as terribly extensive as one would think. I do remember seeing Mando using some "tracking" mode and I thought he had used nightvision at some point but I might've imagined it. Growing up, I always thought these helmets were packed with all sorts of cool features but maybe not!

If he had been using night vision in this episode, we wouldn’t have seen the boogie monsters so clearly! You always have to consider the plot forward device. Tech doesn’t exist from episode to episode!

Night vision would be great, until there was ANY bright light that popped up unexpectedly, then you're effectively blinded.

Infrared would be great, as long as what you're looking at was radiating heat.

Not every situation is a stealth/combat situation that requires you to be invisible. Sometimes, it's just dark & you need to see where the CRAP you're trying to go.
You're confusing infrared with thermal, which are kind of but not the same. Infrared is a spectrum of light and comes in 2 forms or frequencies, one of which allows you to see things mostly like you would with visible light, only in b&w or shades of green. This is the kind of night vision that you commonly see in ghost hunting shows; it allows you to see in the dark with the use of an infrared light which is not visible to the naked eye. Thermal are the other form or frequency of infrared and it's the one that allows you to see things based on the amount of heat they're emitting, or not emitting., This is what you see in footage of military missile or bomb strikes, and is commonly depicted in Hollywood in various colors to indicate how hot or cold something is.

Same here. For such big helmets from such a tech savvy society and culture, the most advanced things those helmets seem to be able to do is seal up and provide air to the wearer without being attached to any sort of larger air support device.

While I do fully understand and appreciate having to write to accommodate the plot but, to me, this was just lazy writing. They could have written around it by saying atmospheric interference, the critters don't show up on thermals, or they could have done things in post to show that Mando was using an IR light, which is really just what most night vision is, and IR light illuminating things and optics that can see infrared light.

Also…was that robot related to the ones from the rebooted Lost In Space series?
That's what I was thinking too. It really reminded me of Robot and it really sounded like it too.

I think this is Favreau’s writing in a nutshell. He hits all the right beats, all the right milestones, in the story, but he takes lazy logic-straining shortcuts in-between.

It would have cost them zero extra dollars to record five seconds of dialogue to explain why they needed R5 to test the air in lieu of any atmospheric sensors on the ship.

Yes... I misspoke. I sometimes get the specific terms mixed up with generic, assumed terms. Appreciate the clarification.

I thought it was pretty clear that he wasn't JUST testing the atmosphere itself, but instead the lower levels, & especially the lowest of levels where the mines would be located. That's who he sent R5 into the cavern.

Heavier, toxic gases would settle.
Just rewatched the scene, and you are right - but then Din said he had to seal his helmet and Grogu had to seal himself in his pod before they opened the canopy. The ship couldn’t tell them the surface air was safe to breathe?

And that also goes back to the nonsensical decision to give up on IG-11 (or find some other droid better-adapted for climbing) in favor of an R5 unit that is only really good for rolling on flat surfaces, as your survey droid for the lower levels of a bombed-out city.

I mean, unless Din expected R5 to find a gentle slope leading down deep into the cavern, the droid’s testing capabilities seem limited to the area around the first uneven surface it comes across.

The more I think about it, wouldn’t a probe/seeker droid have been better-suited for this task than even IG-11?

All excellent points. Thank you.

Everyone grab the pitchforks for me bringing it up, but my 'assumption' (... & Yes, I know what it means to ASSUME) was that, based on the legs, R5 would've been equipped with the rockets that R2 had.

If I remember my PT lore correctly, those were standard on astromechs, but at some point between the trilogies, R2's had become damaged & were just never repaired.
