Mandalorian Season 3

The “never remove your helmet” thing is still just absurdly silly.

The ceremony to place the toy helmet on the kid’s head was pretty laughable…not quite as funny as the “Boba Fett gaffi stick dance”, but pretty close.
Gaffi stick dance did not bother me at all. However, I thought his induction into the tribe, like everything else in the series, felt way too rushed.

But yeah, the toy helmet thing isn’t even amusing in a “wink-nudge” meta way. I cringe at the very real possibility that someone from Disney's Consumer Products division sent Favs a note saying "We aren't moving enough of these kid-sized helmets. We think we can sell a lot more if we can find a way to make them screen-canon. Can you figure something out?"

This scene reminded me of Spaceballs.

The pirate king is just a pesto version.

I had mixed feelings about this episode. It had lots of Mandalorians, a big creature, old friends, new pirate enemies, and a space battle. It would seemingly check all the boxes for what I’d consider a fantastic Star Wars entry, but it didn’t do anything for me.

I’ll blame being over worked and under appreciated lately, but I wasn’t even excited leading up to this episode.

Understand the overworked under appreciated thing for sure….

The important thing is what did the Mrs. think about it?

squirk Wait, you thought the Book Of Boba Fett moved TOO fast? To each his own, but it bored the [Censored] out of me.
I said "rushed," not "exciting." ;)

But to be honest, there were a lot of scenes and set-pieces on BoBF that I really liked. The spice train attack, the Sarlacc encounter (both of them), the rancor vs. the Scorpenek droid, etc.

However, those little pearls were strung together by a lot of (what I thought was) thin, badly-paced plot that often didn't make a whole lot of sense.

She is also overworked and under appreciated right now as well! Two days into her work week, and already she has logged 26 hours…

We didn’t hardly talk about it, but she did laugh when they showed the half IG statue, and then repeatedly said “bad baby” after Grogu’s encounter with Babu Frik. The major takeaway from me was that she had no recollection of that character in the ST. For someone who knows a Trandoshan hunts Wookiees, and that Twileks have two different types of ears, I think that says something.

We did also talk about the sudden “muppetfication” of things. She said Greef’s little robe droids were cute, but then it was odd to have the Babu Frik colony be another small cute thing, along side Grogu, who is supposed to be THE small cute thing.

The first set of pirates was awesome to both of us. We have a soft spot for pirate asthetic, since I’ve been a Jack Sparrow for over a decade:

We also agreed that the Pirate King (or whatever it was called) was almost comical. He was way too close to a POTC Davy Jones type design, and didn’t necessarily fit into an esthetic that matched the other pirates already shown. Also, why would he be covered in healthy moss on a space ship? It just seems counter intuitive to show this bright green growth on a character who presumably lives on an inorganic space ship.

Also, I felt that it was odd the eclipse design was used and shrank down so much. Loved the ball turrets, but the execution just didn’t seem great. The concept art was cool though. I loved that open ceiling hangar bay. We don’t see that design implemented anywhere else, and I thought it was cool.

I liked the Episode. Not perfect but a good start.I love that IG-11 comes back.He and Mando are a great team in battle.

These pirates would have fit right in: View attachment 1675413
YES! I was gonna make this point. I have been watching the original Lost In Space and always chuckled how their space pirates were just takes on 18th century Earth pirates. Given the overall camp of the show, it fits well enough. In Star Wars, ehhhhh… Most of them weren’t quite so bad but Captain Shard or whatever was a bit much…

I feel like this could have been a nice opportunity to reintroduce Nym back into canon.

A pirate king who isn't all that bad, but a pirate all the same, and one who finds himself at odds with Mando.

Might be more interesting to watch than the alien equivalent of a mustache-twirling Republic serial villain.
Nym…That’s a name I haven’t heard in a long time, a long time!

That would have been PERFECT.

Old Gregg is second runner up though.

I think part of what bothers me about this is that I don't care if Din is able to become a Mandalorian again. It doesn't seem to matter in the slightest. Honestly he doesn't even seem to be that invested in his own "redemption."
I think this might be intentional. Ultimately he's clinging to his old beliefs because that is all he knows. His entire life has centered around them, so it's not easy for him to let go. He's falling back on the familiar because he's been brainwashed to believe his world should revolve around it, even though it's clear to us (the audience) it's actually Grogu who his life revolves around now. I suspect he has no regrets about removing his helmet for the little one on a subconscious level, and that's probably bubbling up to the surface as lack of investment in his new quest.

I wouldn't be surprised if by the end of this season he comes to realize that Grogu is more important to him than his creed and embraces that his "sins" aren't actually sins at all and gives up this quest for redemption. I'd love to see him help put an end to the in-fighting within the Mandalorian people around these religious squabbles and use A) his possession of the darksaber and B) his courage to actually venture to Mandalore to prove everyone wrong (a planet currently plagued with so much legend that the other Mandalorians are scared to step foot on it), to unite the people and lead them into a new era of strength.
