Mandalorian Reference Thread

Hot Toys just shared some pics of their Beskar version Mandalorian! First decent shots of the Knife blade and flashlight, as well as a VERY brown suit.
Hoping this ships soon so we can get some more shots of that knife.

It's funny you say that because this is how it's described in the details...
  • One (1) dark grey colored cape
  • One (1) silver-colored chest armor
  • One (1) dark grey colored undershirt with silver shoulder armors
  • One (1) interchangeable silver-colored right shoulder armor with Mudhorn signet
  • One (1) dark grey colored vest
  • One (1) dark grey colored undervest
  • One (1) dark grey colored abdominal pad

That’s fine. Look at the photos. Unless you mean to imply the bandolier and belt are “Dark Grey” as well... That suit, in those photos? It is brown. It couldn’t possibly be any more clear.

If you prefer a grey suit, that’s awesome, make a grey suit. You can argue it looks grey on screen, and I would agree in some cases.

If we are talking factually about the real world prop? As far as I know and believe? It is brown. That’s just what it is.

I'm not arguing with you at all. I agree it looks brown. Just found it odd they list it as dark grey. It could all change by the time it's released in a year too.

Hot Toys have gotten colors wrong in the past- their Star Lord Vol 1 coat was waaaaaaaaaay off. But in this case they are very close. As Mr Mold Maker wrote.. real deal is brown. Crew have confirmed it as such. (I also did some color-neutralization, removing the color grading from screengrabs and it still shows up as three different shades of brown, also matching on-set photos.)

Two photos from the Hot Toys prototype painter J.C. Hong. (@J.C.Hong on Instagram)

I think I’m going to stick with the Sideshow one myself, but this looks like it will be super nice too!

I'm definitely keeping my Sideshow order as I think it's the better display collectible of the two, but I wouldn't mind having the articulated Hot Toys version to troop with. I haven't seen a price yet, but that could be the determining factor.

Sideshow has just updated their page for the Hot Toys one. The price is $410.

Big Bad already sold out of the Hot Toys The Child.

Just reserved mine at Sideshow.

I am on all the email lists and received none for any site.

FYI

I ended up pre-ordering the Hot Toys version as well. Not crazy about the seams, but I think he'll be great for trooping with. Also not crazy about the price tag. I had pre-ordered most of the Hasbro versions, but at this point will probably be cancelling most of them since they won't even compare to Sideshow and Hot Toys.

I also ended up ordering another Mythosaur pendant from the original guy. This one's for my wife. He raised the price to cover tracking when shipping.

I ordered the Mythosaur pendant on Friday and it arrived today. THAT'S SERVICE!!!

My wife was grinning ear to ear.

Recently finished up one of the last Mandalorian helmets I’ll be doing. Alumaluster like the real
helmets, and I’m also using the same clear, same oils, and a few other details as seen on the real helmets.

My earlier helmets I think were just a little too bright so I brought the opacity down even more. Mine keep a little more reflectivity than the Legacy helmets due to my clear coating technique which was interesting to account for. I also switched from weathering directly on the chrome to weathering over the clear like the real helmets.. I have a preference to the former, I think it looks better, but “accuracy” is important... or something.

I don’t plan on doing any more of these, but I am always happy to offer tips if anyone wants to chat. Just PM me. Hope you folks dig it.

Man! That is GORGEOUS!!! I'm building a helmet now and hoping to get it somewhat in the ballpark to what you have. Nice work!

Did you build the helmet or is it a kit or 3D print or what?

Thanks!

This particular one was sent in by a client. Sean Bradley’s helmet kit. I’ve had hundreds of resin cast kits come through my hands and it’s honestly the nicest rotocast helmet I’ve ever held. Highly recommended.

Wow, man just wow. This is awesome!
Any more updates on the armor you were painting or did I miss any?

There are a bunch of photos on my Facebook page! Figured it would be a little much to add here. I do have two full sets of armor in that are being painted right now so keep an eye out for those on FB as well. “Jackson Rupert”

This thread isn't all that active. Please post up what you have going on. I'd love to see it (and HATE Facebook).

I should have some armor pics to post in a few days. Though I may not want to after I see what you have done as mine may not hold up.
