Making a Cosplay Captain America TFA work...

Nice dude! Oh, and your stars were sent yesterday by the way! They're actually the best ones I've made. Hope you enjoy! If I thought about it, I would have tried making them out of metal on a leather disc instead of foam. Ha ha! I'm loving the concept of this build. It's one of the reasons I loved the TFA costume better than Avengers, because it is practical. You could utilize it in combat. Genius Bobby, genius.

Started messing with the pants and came up with just covering the outlined areas with the alternate fabric. Kinda bulks it up a bit. Also got my shoulder stars in today from Mike aka Steamshovel and they are awesome! Worked on replacing the pleather with real leather for the under arm straps and I'm finishing up the front straps. You can see one is pinned in the pics.

I realize the back looks a bit wonky but it fits me better than the form I have it on. (the top coming under the belt and back strap not meeting up with the belt)

Also thinking of making the top and pants zip together under the belt to keep it from untucking when I move around.

I have a question. I've noticed a few folks using the double buckle boots and was wondering if that would suffice or do you think that they are a bit taller than that type and are actually jump boots (more laces) with a prop added double buckle top added? That might be my next purchase, just wanted to try and get it right.

I believe jump boots with added lace hooks and the leather cuffs. Eventually, this is what I plan to do after getting a second pair of jump boots.

If you don't want to cut-up a a pair of double buckle boots could make a pattern from the photos here.

For all your hard work, don't know if you want the one off option of not quite accurate but straight from the box boots.

Thanks Green L. Yeah Fly, I thought that's what they were. Thanks for the photo reference and the pattern, that's the way I'm going to go

I wanted to mention that I replaced the sleeves with a polycotton/spandex blend. Kinda like "A" type or "wifebeater" T-shirt material. Better form fitting than the canvas white duck-cloth type material that came on it.

Just been tightening up some areas on the uniform, also working on the chest pouches:

Your guys opinion; are the chest pouches and strap darker than the waist belt and ammo pouches? Seems to me in the main frontal shot that everyone is familiar with that it may be a "chocolate" brown than the British Tan. I'll wait to hear something before I dye it.

Just placed my order through strapworks for new red "ab" strap materal. Was never happy with the stuff that came on the cosplay, so when that comes in I'll let you know if it was any good. Here are my chest pouches:

Hard to get them to lay right so I cut the bottom of the strap and sewed in together in a "V" shape. It's a little better...

Thanks Kevin! Yeah Fly, it's getting there. I like working on it, but I am looking forward to getting it done. Although, I don't know what I'm going to do next :lol. This (Cap) is the only thing I've ever done... I've got a bid on some boots and I guess, I'll start hitting the gloves...

How goes the work on the "Kevlar"?

have you decided on a M-1/PASGT suspension harness, ACH pads, or flying helmet leather lining?
For mine I plan to have pads and a removable liner.

It doesn't even come close to fitting :( so I've shelved it for now... I did get my order from Strapworks yesterday, so I may do a bit of work later today. But my bike just dumped all of its transmission fluid out on the floor so I may be tinkering on that instead. I think it is getting jealous :rolleyes I'll post the results of the strapworks order when I take some pics. Overall I'm happy with it. The red that they carry is a bit too bright, but the silver/gray strapping looks real good.

Sorry to hear about the bike and your helmet.
Is it just minor hot spots or just can't get it on your head?
I can't put my straight, have to put it on my nose and then rotate it back. plus the stand off is visible on the side of my eyes.

With the red straps too bright, try airbrushing a coating of fabric paint gray.

Thanks Fly for the tip on the paint. My original fiberglass example I have to put it on in the manner you talk about. Here is the sad state of my bike (before and after). Got the tranny out, now time to replace the seals. Uniform might have to wait until I get her back together...

:cry This emoticon isn't large enough.

At least you have enough time before the holiday toy rides start.

Since you have a solid enough helmet are you going to do any TFA charity rides?

Cool thing about FL is there is no helmet law, (although I wear one anyway) so I can put whatever I want to on my head. :cool The problem is with the goggles. I am required to wear eye protection and shades would look kinda dumb on a Cap helmet :rolleyes. I do however have a windshield that I take off during the summer but am not sure if a windshield will suffice for eye protection according to FL law. I'll definately be participating in some charity rides around town.
