Mad Max: Fury Road Costume Thread

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road Costumes Thread

By the way, you guys are great at figuring this stuff out. A lot of you could be amzing assets to some of my upcoming projects, if you could bare living on a South African wage.
Are there legit any film manufacturers on these forums - excuse my ignorance of you all are!

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road Costumes Thread

This was IV tubing on one jacket and fish tank oxygen tubing on another... Supplies were slim in Namibia.

I have been unable to locate a siphon tube which matches the tubing on his left shoulder. One possibility for what the tubing may be is a medical oxygen hose, commonly referred to as star lumen tubing. If it is not a match, then it at least provides us with a suitable substitution.

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road Costumes Thread

It must be Christmas!!! Thank you very much for taking the time to post all of that Arlo. I have a couple of quick questions.

So far the only medical tubing I've been able to find is clear but the tubing in the movie is yellowish. Did you find yellow tubing or did you have to turn it yellow by heating or some other method?

Can you give us more detail on the mag pouches on the lower half of the flak jacket? What type of pouches were used on the lower right side for the two AK mags and the stem and beretta mags along with the shot shells?
Also, what kind of pouch is on the lower left side?

Thanks again for helping us out!

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road Costumes Thread

Thanks for posting, Arlo. Homerjjwalker, I'm pretty sure the medical tubing is crystal clear and the yellowing is from dirt and the sun changing the color. Clear plastic tends to yellow after being exposed for a while.

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road Costumes Thread

Yep, that is absolutely correct the tube was clear before I aged it.
A simple alcohol wood stain mix of about 2:10 parts water will stain the Pvc tubing yellow.
If you can find a nice yellow stain, use that direct on the tube but use it sparingly.

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road Costumes Thread

Yep, that is grenade launcher ammo, attached by unstitching some of the existing elastic on the side of the jacket.
the pouches on tr shoulder straps are in fact condor 9mm pouches for a mole system.

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road Costumes Thread

Unfortunately I didn't know the rules and my post was deleted;).
The mag pouches on his lower right are condor pouches (variable large mag pouches, usually for m4 mags I think) with the elastic pull overs.
We bought some condor pouches, there were 3in a strip and I divided them up 2 on the left and 1 on the right. The elastic pull overs I removed and you really have to stuff the mags in there. They definitely were not meant to fit in there like that.

The rest of the lower pouches were all adapted from the vest itself.
I found these on the net...... They are from the earlier stages of development and you can see the final product was slightly different and had a few more adaptions but you guys are on the right track - the small pouch none has noticed has a green military issue compass in it - As I said, I cannot give any of my personal pics to anyone online due to contractual clauses.

PS: If these are for resale, not that I would want to know or approve, an original designer/manufacturers mention would be nice - hidden somewhere on the final product maybe...

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road Costumes Thread

Arlo, really thankful for all the info you're providing! Pretty awesome to see the early stages of the vest. Give's an idea of whats been modded and attached. I had not seen the prototype vest online anywhere before but I see some of the stuff you kept on. Pretty cool. I think you'll find most of the guys on here just want to replicate the vest for costuming or just having a cool replica from the movie for their collection. With all the work put into these things I don't think you find people selling these. Just people purchasing the found items to try and replicate one for themselves. As a huge Max fan I want to try and replicate it as accurate as possible and having the designer on here sharing the process of your work is extremely appreciative. When mine is done I'll definitely be crediting you and there is no way I'm selling mine. :cool

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road Costumes Thread

I did a quick mock up to compare what appears to be on the right of the final battle jacket/vest.

Doesn't look like much changed except the added grenade round with the bottom linked rounds removed. The pouches on the side of them appear to still be there. The one cut up a bit on the top opening and the ones holding the mags with shotgun shells. The top pouch with what appears to have the military compass that Arlo mentioned looks like it has some type of Altoids tin case in the promo picture.

I don't really have any good pictures of the bottom left side but could you confirm arlo if those black mag pouches with the bullets hold in place with the strips are on the final design?

From promo pictures released so far it's hard to make out what's there.

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road Costumes Thread

Looks like MP5 mags, 9mm.. and random bullets, but hard to know the random rounds for sure.. Also looks like the MP5 mags are just stuffed with whatever... The mag on the left almost looks like the top round is something other than 9mm, but this just might just be the angle.

They are either 7.62 linked (used in all US machine guns, M60 series and M240 series) or possibly M249 rounds, 5.56mm linked... 1st image is 5.56mm tracer. Second 7.62 ball. Looking at the taper of the rounds, I would conclude they are 7.62. Also given that the magazine they are near looks to be an HK g3 type, those are 7.62.. the preproduction photo

Yup, I thought they looked like linked rounds the M60 uses.

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road Costumes Thread

Another quick note, all modern 1980s+ NATO small arms rounds are copper jacketed, the others with lead/ silver colored tips are civilian or other world forces ammo.

Looking quickly at the 40mm round. This appears to be a round from the Mk19 40 mm AGL.. Not the M203. Its ironic that he would carry this if it was a MK19 round, because he would have nothing to fire it from. An M79 breach load, M203, or the M320 would not be able to handle the pressure of the round, leading to failure and user injury/ death. The MK19 round is longer and has that ring depression around the front. Hard to tell with it inside the elastic.

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road Costumes Thread

So I'm pretty sure these are the Condor pouches arlo mentioned.

Condor MA32 for the upper left shoulder that holds the pistol mag and clear hose.

Condor%20MA32_zps3xhkobag.jpg

Condor MA27 Triple Open Top M4 Mag Pouch for the bottom left that arlo mentioned was divided in 2 for that side ( These also come is double and single form though)

And on the right bottom from the picture arlo posted there is a single tan one that hold the black shotgun shells. Not sure if they used all triple ones and cut them up for multiple vest but here is the single tan one.

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road Costumes Thread

Nice! Been wondering what that was. Sure does look like an altoids tin lol.

So looking at some magazines I figured out the mag in the big altered pouch is a HK G3 mag. It also looks like there's something else behind the mag but no way to tell what is it from the picture alro shared.

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road Costumes Thread

wow that is great Fabian!!!

Yeah, you can get them surplus for extremely cheap too. I just need to find them blocked to 10 or 15 rounds for them to be legal to own in my state. Same goes for the rest of the "high capacity magazines" the vest holds. :angry

Airsoft mags are another option but it wont have an accurate opening to show a round or dummy round, just a little pellet hole.
