Mad Max: Fury Road Costume Thread

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road Costumes Thread

I've been having a look at the pistol mag with the tubing again. I know it's been said it's a Condor Mag pouch but when analyzing the details it matches up more to the 5.11 tactical single mag pouch as mentioned by augofett a while back.

Have a look

Take note at the width of the elastics band on both. The Condor seem a bit too wide while the 5.11 looks like an exact match. Also take note of the side. You can see the outline of the molle attachment has spacing between them on the Condor while the the 5.11 matches the Fury Road.

Also with the tubing. It was said they used IV tubing and fish tank tubing but looking at the one in the same picture, this particular vest the tubing has distinctive connectors at the ends. The only tubing I see those connectors on are from medical oxygen tubing. Bonanza also mentioned this a while back.

Here's a comparison.

Some promo photos you don't even see a connector and some photos the tubing looks thinner than the photo above which I suspect are the vests that used the IV or fish tank tubing? They could have also just put the same connectors on the other tubing but I've only have seen these connectors on the oxygen ones while doing a search online.
Yeah I bought a condor a while back and noticed the larger elastic strap. It also seems very small. I don't know if the 5.11 is the same size but it just seems smaller than what's on screen.

I forget who posted it but the star lumen medical tubing is the way to go if you want that version. I'm working on aging mine. It's more difficult than you think to coil it up the way it is in the movie and cram it under the elastic strap. It may need a little heat to soften it first before wrapping and placement. Just a thought.

Could you post a picture of the tubing you got and the connectors? Some I found online seem to have a lip towards the end. The one in the photo I posted there isn't any lip it just angles down if that makes sense. I think it might be hard to coil up because most of the tubing are crush and kink resistant. Maybe there's some that aren't kink resistant and might be easier to coil? Or you could just replace it with a standard clear tubing and switch over the connectors. Might have been what they done for the film when they used the IV and fish tank tubing. I'm guesstimating the correct length would be 7'.

Mine is the style with the lip. i wonder how hard it would be to remove the ends. I'm not sure if they are attachments or molded with the whole hose. But you may be right, i justt don't see the tubing i bought laying flat like the one in the movie. the tubing on his shoulder acts more like a softer rubber, kind of like the one used on your arm to make the veins raise for taking blood withdrawal. Not sure if my picture will upload. having problems with the site but i will keep trying.

Also, just FYI, there is a new international trailer out. Same footage just cut differently with foreign subtitles.

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road Costumes Thread

Yea, try going with the IV or fish tank tubing then, or pretty much any clear tube that looks like right size. It's just tubing after all. If you can get those connectors off then just switch them over.

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road Costumes Thread

I think we can confirm the two m4 mag pouches made it to the final design.

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road Costumes Thread

So this is weird. I received my field gun cleaning tin and couldn't wait to put it in the vest. However, it will not fit in the small pocket on the right side where it is supposed to go. That pouch is too small. It does fit in the small pouch on the left side though. Looks like I'm going to have to transfer the larger pouch over to the right side.
Is it possible all battle jackets are not created equal and vary slightly from one to the next?

Could be it got stitched together smaller than the other. I assume they're done by hand. It could also be that maybe it slightly shrunk? Not sure with the material if it can shrink a bit but these things were constantly exposed to the sun so it could be a possibility. It's definitely going to fit snug though. You could try stretching it out by hand and see if it gives a little. If not then I guess the only way around it is to switch the other pouch over. I think the other pouch gets removed anyway as I have not seen it in any photos. I do have a suspicion that one is used for the right shoulder pistol mag pouch too and stitched tighter to fit the mag, but I could be wrong as there are two stitched seams on that mag pouch in the FR one if you look closely and I only see one on the side pouches.

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road Costumes Thread

My tin also has a tight fit in the left small pocket, but this pocket needs to be removed and restitched to the right side am i correct?
if this is correct we can make it fit for the tin.

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road Costumes Thread

yeah, the right pouch is noticeably smaller than the left. I'm not even sure if there is enough fabric to re-stitch so I will probably need to move the larger pouch over. not a big deal, just thought it curious that some of the jackets vary.

I hear you about the right shoulder pouch. It does have double stitching but the fabric and color match the rest of the pouches pretty closely. On the other side of the coin, in some of the pictures you can make out the rigging ring that comes on the top, back panel of the 5.11 pouches. see below.

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road Costumes Thread

i guess the small pocket that gets removed from the rightside is the one comicguy says that needs to bee stitched tighter to fit the mag.

Good eye on the ladder buckle homerjjwalker!

i think you are correct!

you can also see on the weathering the elastic strap is removed.

But the tin does fit only in the left side pocket and that one needs to be restitched to the right side i guess.

I also think the black elastic strap comicguy mentioned is the black velcro strap from the battle vest it self .

This make a lot more sense. Here's a comparison on the shape of the flaps. Keep in mind the flap is tucked in behind the mag. Also the mag is larger than the glock mag in the stock photo.

So it looks like there's two 5.11 pouches. One black, one tan. Good eye indeed, homerjjwalker.

Also about the tin pouches. I checked fitment on my other battle jacket and it was a tight fit at first but I stretched it a bit by hand and I managed to get it in there. Now it goes in just as easy as my first jacket.

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road Costumes Thread

Also, I've been doing some Googling about the grenade on the side of the jacket. I think it might be a 40mm round for a Milkor MGL and from reading online, it's what they use in South Africa, which would make a lot of sense considering they filmed there.

Here's a comparison. Take note of the lines and primer.

I think they come in different variants but the size of the primer placement match up. Others I've seen the primers are much larger.
Let me know what you guys think?

I doubt it. The mag pouch already comes with an elastic strap. Wouldn't make sense to unstitch it and replace with the jacket's if it had one to start. The strap is the same width as the stock tan one seen above.

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road Costumes Thread

Well if I had to say, looks like they got Airsoft MP5 mags and replaced the top portion with something else. I will continue looking.

Also I've been trying to find some MP5 magazines that match up to the mags arlo posted and I can't seem to find any. The feed lips look shorter on all of them real or knockoff mags. The body of the mag flows all the way up to the feed lips where as in the picture arlo posted there's more space on the feed lips from the rest of the body of the mag. The MP5 mags I'm finding online also have that tear drop shape on the top right under the feed lip where as the ones on the vest don't.
Here's a picture to compare.

Thoughts about these mags?

Hmm...maybe. There is a seam there too. I'm wondering though if they even left the mags on the final design. All the pictures and screenshots that show that side seem to have empty mag pouches. Any thoughts on the Milkor MGL grenade round picture I posted?

Looks pretty close to me. Hard to tell with the pictures and all the weathering done to the shell. I have seen a few websites that sell replica ordnance but depending on the round can be fairly pricey.

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road Costumes Thread

Has anyone been able to find a place that still carries the 5.11 Single Pistol Mag Pouch? They seem to be discontinued and the sites that still have them up are outdated and no longer available. I've called about 3 vendors and all have said "sorry, no longer available. The site has to be updated" :angry
