Luke's Lightsaber Mando series finale.

Let's hope...for the longest time after ROTJ , when i was old enough to know that their were different versions of Luke's green lightsaber, i convinced myself the sailbarge scene saber(when he was on top of the barge with Leia) was the V3. So i had to have a V3. But then i found out the truth, that it was the Yuma..the Yuma became my favorite. Why? This just enamored me as a kid. Memories. Now with Mando, it made me feel like 1983 all over again...probably going to try to a Mandolukian Hero at some point...lol
I totally get what you mean. That was me with the V2... even as a fairly young lad I always noticed that the saber Luke carries didn't match the ISYHCANL insert shot nor did it match my 1995 Kenner Power of the Force Luke saber (which I later learned was based on the V3). Of particular note was the iconic shot of Luke catching the lightsaber at the start of the barge fight. Thus, even before I knew about the version differences, the V2 was Luke's lightsaber in ROTJ for me and I wanted THAT one. Luckily, many years later, I found the RPF and it happened. :)

So you get it!! That's what this is all about. Whether it's the V2 or Yuma or Hero, in 1983 when that saber shot out of R2 and landed in Luke's hand, tell me your heart didnt leap out of your chest when that green blade ignited!! We are fortunate to grow up in the 80s and to have that same experience again this late in life...to quote Halliwax.."Wicked Cool"

In my head it always made more sense that the v2 was Luke's 'official' lightsaber. In the old Expanded Universe he constructed his lightsaber in Ben's hut with the help of old instructions he found there. It wouldn't be too far fetched that he found there old parts or a kind of prototype hilt that resembles Ben's lightsaber from ANH. The Hero/v3/Yuma saber always looked too clean. Like it was brand-new manufactured in a factory.

For me this is what always put the V2 over the top. It has that gritty look that I love in Star Wars, it makes sense if it was built from scrap and random parts from Mos Eisley and Jawas etc. and it was the one seen on screen the most.

But nonetheless, after the finale I really need a Hero style Luke saber. I have a 3d printed V2 that I may redo with my current ability (I had no patience when I did it so print lines reign supreme on the poor thing) but it looks like the Hero is the fully accepted, canonical Luke saber now. I half hoped for a V2 to be the one in the finale but I won't complain.

I pretty much accept the V2 being the ROTJ, Tattooine-built saber with Luke cleaning up and refining the design to be the Hero in the year or so between the end of ROTJ and his appearance here. It takes some fudging in my mind (especially since the ISYHCANL scene blows a cannon ball sized hole in my head-continuity) but I can live with it.

If it's not for the tri-ring-position it looks like the Master-Replica Prop:

If it helps, it was really difficult to force myself to put those vinyl arrows on the control box. There sat this bad-ass functional aluminum and brass prop (Elstree Reveal) and then there were those vinyl arrows just taunting me.

But, the goal was to replicate the Elstree 'exactly' as it was. I really wanted those arrows to be something more but understood why they weren't. There was just no room left in the control box. So, I stuck to the plan to keep everything identical; no liberties were taken.

I believe the Elstree arrows were just cut corners of colored electrical tape. It's not like anyone was laser cutting when that thing was made. I experimented with the tape idea and noticed I was getting the same elongated arrows present on the prop while trying to keep the tip sharp. Once comfortable with the cut, I scanned them and had them cut in vinyl. Again, intentionally replicating the elongated look.

Again, for what it's worth. Not sure if that's what you're referring to. The placement of the arrows and screws are also rather tight compared to other ROTJ sabers. It does break canon a bit. The Elstree is funky!

Yeah I was teasing joker, I don’t think he realized the arrows with stickers.

I’m telling you, the arrows, large screws and a few other things screams Rylo to me!

I’m sold on the belt hanger being the rylo

I’m also sold on the FX hilt NOT being a LS6. For one I don’t see the seam to the gullwing doors

Well... this isn’t fair of me to make this claim because I don’t know if they released another hero with out the gullwing feature. But the ls6 I know has the seam line under, and there is plenty of angles that prove that door line is not there

Did they make a version after the gullwing ls6 with out the doors?

As far as I know, there was an LS6 before the Gullwing version but I can't seem to find a pic of it online. For some reason I remember it being a thick neck but I'm likely remembering wrong.

There is however an LS6 version that specifically emulates the Creepy Uncle. Tried to get a pic of that but their site is closed for Christmas. IIRC from the quick look I took at it, they dropped the Gullwing doors.

Excellent! They JUST came out with a new hero, so we can rule that one out because this scene was filmed a very long time ago. I can’t remember exactly but it was spoiled for me

The non gull wing door before the ls6 was also called “ls6” ?

I’ll hunt ebay see if I can find anything

Weird the tri ring is in the same location on the FX hilt
Yeah, pretty sure. LS6 I think just means "Luke Skywalker 6" like their K4 being "Kenobi 4" so I think they use that for all Luke ROTJ models.

Makes sense. Didn't Hamill say a year? So any replicas put out after that can be ruled out. I don't know when their more recent hilt came out.

I found the LS6 Gullwing on TCSS and that looks to have the Obi-Wan style/Creepy Uncle emitter ring on top so the LS6 Gullwing with the seam and that ring, barring them sanding it off and filling the seam, can be ruled out for sure I think.

I didn’t get a look at the control box, but using one of those internet archive websites I checked the korbanth site from November or October, and it definitely looks like some weird hybrid of the hero and the Creepy Uncle.

Yeah, I noticed it was a middle ground between the two. If you don't mind, what archive site did you use? I'd like to get a better look at it again.

EDIT: Never mind, found it myself.

Can the pommel move on the ls6? The tri ring seems to be on the opposite side

Another thing is production has bought from korbanth in the past..

Here’s a Pinterest I found of korbanth graflex’s.. don’t know well enough of the thin neck is the korbanth

I don't think so, the necks on LS6's are usually a shiny-ish copper with a sorta spun/lathe texture. In that pic it looks more matte/painted look, almost like a coating.

Used an archive version to get pics of the LS6 I was talking about. No seam and uneven rings. Pretty sure the Mando Luke was even ringed. Also, the control box doesn't look quite right. The screws seem too small to my eye.

I agree, the Mando rings (FX and Hero) are even. And both might have a rotating pommel.

So with all of this Rylo talk... where is the Elstree saber now? Would it have been possible for them to just borrow the real deal for the Mando production?

(Sorry, I am quite out of the loop with the ROTJ Hero version just because of the sheer number of versions out there)
