Luke's Lightsaber Mando series finale.

Gotcha. Slightly different circumstances. Your stepping away makes more sense to me now.
Well I'm not saying that I'm completely dropping my interest in the project. But, I am trying to figure out if there is a way to both respect Rylo's work and creative endeavor, while still creating a space for makers (and obviously I have some skin in this game) to try and replicate a prop that they're excited by in good faith with their own creative work. That, as I understand it, is sort of the whole point of the RPF ;)

Oh, I thought we were here for the whisky reviews! haha

Well whatever the path is here, I’m certain you will find it. Can’t wait to see buddy. I’ve never in my life wanted anything Luke but the V2... until this episode.

This is the paradox I was referring to. At the end of the day Lucasdfilm could C&D any fan builder down to the ground. What we're talking about is benefitting off of somebody else's hard work, not their IP.

At any rate, I am curious about Roman's maybe being used for stunts. I posted higher pics on the last page, anyone taking those apart yet?

This is definitely not a Roman's. The pommel cube is right in line with the control box with the tri-ring on the the second cube to the left. The latest version Roman's matches the TLJ misaligned pommel, with the tri-ring first cube to the left.

Let's not get out over our skis here.

Considering there's a couple other people out there taking victory laps (facebook, etc) claiming to have made this thing, I'm just gonna say; "Meh, I have no clue...not enough info, probably not mine."

I've gone through all the pics. I see some hallmarks that were on mine but that doesn't make them exclusive to me or anything. I do believe someone was intentionally heading down an Elstree-esque build though when that piece was made. Make of that what you will.

I guess we'll find out if they ever pop the thing open or we get better pics! I reached out to some friends close to production and asked for a little recon. I'll share if they hit me back with anything solid.

One side note in hopes of curtailing these PMs/emails:

With regard to allowing someone to copy my work. It's ridiculously premature for this to even be a thing but Teecrooz nailed it. I'll pile on a little since my name's been invoked so liberally.

Why would any reputable builder give their blessing to a complete stranger to make anything in association with them? To do so suggests a partnership, a meeting of the minds, a passing of the torch, etc. It would be a terribly reckless and irresponsible move. Someone is just randomly gifted with another guys efforts (and 25 year reputation) then proceeds to sell an item by saying, "I have Rylo's blessing, it's cool...come buy my stuff."

What happens if that person flakes or produces crappy product? Your name is attached to some dumpster fire project and someone you don't even know, forever?! That would be an absurd position for an established prop maker to put themselves in, right?

Let's ignore the fact that it took 1.5 years and about 10K to engineer the beast. The verbal gymnastics that some will stoop to in an effort to justify reverse engineering another guys work is incredible!

The solution is simple. Put in the work! You don't need my blessing if you do your own thing. The same reference is out there right now that I used. It's not a secret. I don't have any weird sense of entitlement here or care who makes a reveal saber; just do your own work. I'd be the first to applaud your efforts. (y)

As a maker who puts in the hard work himself without copying anybody else's work I wholeheartedly agree with your response.

Unfortunately even some well respected makers in this community have copied other's creative efforts. I find that a terrible shame. Designing and engineering your own interpretation based on direct prop references is so much more gratifying and rewarding. Besides, doing your own research will also prevents you from copying potential inaccuracies.

Hello !
Do you think it might be a replica sold in galaxy edge ? Just saw some photos from auctions.

Patlegrand
The Galaxy’s Edge stuff are glorified toys. They might look fine in the background, but as a hero prop they don’t have to quality, and as stunts they wouldn’t meet the needs of control productions would require.

Not to mention that the tri-ring location and size of the black buttons don't match at all.

Rylo and Roy both, very very well said. I can't imagine the countless hours that go into this hobby for you guys, and I know we all appreciate it GREATLY. To be honest, this may just be the best RPF quote of 2020 haha.

Although this is a great discussion into to new territory, let’s figure out if this actually a Rylo before we jump off a ledge. I think we may be getting ahead of ourselves a little bit. We are 4 days after seeing the lightsaber and moved at light speed on identifying parts. Which I expect nothing less from this community!

Like I said it’s been only 4 days. Give it a month and I’m sure we will have plenty more information. Good discussion and I’m happy to see how civil it’s been.

While I was working on the DaveP/BrRogers hilt I realized that pattern of arrows is on the Fett helmet, lightsaber box, some control panels and I think some hand props. I did notice it on some Stereos and other electronics of that era and I can definitely see why they did that.

My childhood had the play/pause arrows, the fast forward/reverse double arrows, etc. and ipods even included those symbols on the click wheel before touch screens became the norm.

Anyway, these Elstree arrows are so long, I don't remember were they vinyl decals on the fake?

All these findings are very interesting. Great work as always guys. Anybody have a clue what the stunt saber was? Somebody mentioned on Facebook that their friend who worked on the show (presumably?) said it was a Korbanth LS6, but I have no way to confirm that. Anybody have the 4k screenshots yet or should I take a crack at screenshotting it later?

Hey where was the LS6 mentioned on Facebook if you don’t mind my asking? I’m on most of the saber groups and would love to look into this a bit more.

I would be surprised if the used an LS6, for practice purposes. There's so much going on in that hilt, reveal wise, it seems like for the purposes of making a practice stunt, it be easier for the crew to just machine their own hilt.
