Limited Run Luke ROTJ V2 lightsaber- based on the new info from SWCA (UPDATE PG 37)

Re: Luke ROTJ V2 lightsaber- based on the new info from SWCA (UPDATE PG 12)

It was brought up in the V2 thread proper, when the SWCA photos popped up, that what was once thought as a fillister screw under the cone knob (on the pommel) is actually just a chunk of aluminium. No real origin or any part; it's just a misshapen chunk of metal. Next time I run to the hardware store, I'll be sure to pick up some scrap aluminium stock or something and fashion one myself.

I've been looking for some good pics of that chunk with no luck. Do you have any to share?

Count me in for the next run if it happens!

You're was mailed last week. Give it a couple of days and if it doesn't turn up, I'll go to the post-office and try to chase it down.

Unfortunately, I'm in the same boat; I can't find any good photos of it either beyond what's already available. From those screenshots and the photos from Anaheim, I've got a basic shape figured out and that's as much as I've got going for me.

Got mine in today and couldn't help but put everything else aside to put it together. All's missing is the clamp/card/lever assembly, "Mystery chunk", and gaffer tape but still pleased as punch at where it is now.

This paint job looks great.
What paint did you use? Did you coat it like manooga? And is this the toothpick technique?

Very nicely done, PoopaPapaPalps. :thumbsup

Received mine this morning and quickly gave it a test fit. Within five minutes the saber was assembled.
Now to wait for a little quality weather so I'm able to throw some paint at it.

Mine came today as well! Assembly went quick too.
Thanks Dan! Looking SWEET!

Even with all the snags we seem to be hitting this is a beautiful piece - I can't imagine being satisfied with a solid aluminum saber now :lol

Re: Luke ROTJ V2 lightsaber- based on the new info from SWCA (UPDATE PG 12)

Mine arrived here in England today & I'm very pleased :)

I was a "no problem guy" as I'm gonna beat it up anyway

it's got a couple of little nicks but nothing I'm worrying about

only thing I'm not sure about is that at the top of the neck there is a slight lip, do I need to file this flat before I put it together?

thanks for doing this run Dan

Nope! That is the "groove in the neck" that mimicked the grenade neck on Obi Wans saber

:lol Sorry probably wasn't clear in my picture, at the top of the groove there is a slightly raised edge

hopefully easier to see zoomed in, wasn't sure if this was supposed to be there or if I should file it down

its tiny just a mm or so

Re: Luke ROTJ V2 lightsaber- based on the new info from SWCA (UPDATE PG 12)

Mine showed up today! Went together pretty easy; just needed a little dremeling inside the hilt so the pomel could fit; but other than that, I love it!

Now I just need to paint and decide what I want to do for the "mystery chunk of metal" behind the knob on the pomel. . .

I would be so depressed if there was not going to be a second run.

I have my clamp ordered and soon the lever and circuit board, then the saber. So excited.:thumbsup

Re: Luke ROTJ V2 lightsaber- based on the new info from SWCA (UPDATE PG 12)

I'm looking forward to the second run myself. I may get two.

Re: Luke ROTJ V2 lightsaber- based on the new info from SWCA (UPDATE PG 12)

I have gotten mine and it is awesome. Had to do the dremmeled drum bit inside where the pommel goes on the main body, but it fits perfectly now. This thing is so gorgeous, I am really considering not painting it at all now.

Where does the bearing go? EDIT: never mind...I have just read back further in the thread.

Re: Luke ROTJ V2 lightsaber- based on the new info from SWCA (UPDATE PG 12)

Managed to get my clamp tabs nice and smooth with the dremmel today.

Still no V2 in the mail though.

I used semi-gloss black engine enamel (though regular spray paint would probably work just fine, it was that I just had it available) and painted all but the "clamp body" and the pommel black.

Then I went to town beating the hell out of it. It's not worth saying but there's no real technique to doing this. If anything, I was trying to recreate conditions the actual prop might've encountered to get the weathering. After the thing was painted, I put all the parts in a bucket with nails, screw, socket wrenches, staples, and anything I could get my hands on and shook it up. Then took the parts out and kicked them around on the sidewalk, dropped it a few times; you know, general abuse and misuse. I even used the bottom to hammer some stuff.

Once that was done, I used a flathead screwdriver (but mostly my fingernails) to chip away at the paint until I got it where I liked it and finished up areas with some more paint and a q-tip. Took me no time to do it.

Just ordered some gaffer tape last night to add to the neck. Still scouting for a clamp.

Re: Luke ROTJ V2 lightsaber- based on the new info from SWCA (UPDATE PG 12)

I'm just gonna have to weather the paint with toothpicks or something. I just can't bring myself to abuse this thing!
