Limited Run Luke ROTJ V2 lightsaber- based on the new info from SWCA (UPDATE PG 37)

Re: Luke ROTJ V2 lightsaber- based on the new info from SWCA (UPDATE PG 12)

Hey Dan, don't wait on me for the paint stencils before putting out a tutorial. I've been completely swamped at work and I don't want to be responsible for people not being able to assemble their V2s. Some may want to paint it AFB, or may want to do the weathering themselves. I will definitely try to get it done as soon as I can but I don't even have mine yet to test any measurements or anything. So if people want to wait for a stencil that's great, but they should still have the assembly tutorial for those that want to paint it themselves.

I know mine's got a backwards clampcard and it's not got the D ring installed yet, but couldn't help taking a photo. Great work everybody!

Drop dead sexy beast.

Re: Luke ROTJ V2 lightsaber- based on the new info from SWCA (UPDATE PG 12)

Got mine Saturday and everything looks great! Just wondering if anyone is offering build up / finishing services?

Great picture! I'm still waiting for Dan's parts to safely cross the ocean.

I see you have enough clamp cards for the next 20 runs of Dan! :D

I better make some extra levers since I'm nearly through my first batch!

Re: Luke ROTJ V2 lightsaber- based on the new info from SWCA (UPDATE PG 12)

Got mine in... pretty disappointed in how badly it's jacked up though. Your machine shop needs a kick in the nuts.

Re: Luke ROTJ V2 lightsaber- based on the new info from SWCA (UPDATE PG 12)

So mine still hasn't shown up yet.

Curious as to why since I was on the top of the sign up list and I sent payment within the first few hours they were being accepted?

were you in the problem or no problem camp? I went with no problem hope I didn't go the wrong way

is it just nicks & scratches?

I always weather so figured it wouldn't be a problem although usually I like to start with a pristine prop & doing my own damage

Got mine in today and couldn't help but put everything else aside to put it together. All's missing is the clamp/card/lever assembly, "Mystery chunk", and gaffer tape but still pleased as punch at where it is now.

wow, that looks awesome that's what I'll be aiming for :)

Re: Luke ROTJ V2 lightsaber- based on the new info from SWCA (UPDATE PG 12)

I was in the "problem" camp. I like to weather my own, but the dins in my pommel were pretty big. I also had to lathe down the neck where it meets the emitter due to ding. It would sit crooked it was so banged up. I also have to turn down the "booster" area and neck a little because of giant nicks.

Those spots wouldn't naturally be weathered or dinged due to the clamp, and geometry... so I wasn't too happy to open it up and see it so jacked.

The machine shop just did crap work. The CNC or computer aided portion did nice cuts, but their clean up is crappy (sanded and softened the lines, and not even in a uniform grain) and treatment of the parts is appalling.

Re: Luke ROTJ V2 lightsaber- based on the new info from SWCA (UPDATE PG 12)

Hey Scott would you take a commission for some work like that should mine, also from the 'dont care', be as bad?

Re: Luke ROTJ V2 lightsaber- based on the new info from SWCA (UPDATE PG 12)

I was in the NP group as well. I'm in NC & I got mine Saturday.

My issue is that I have 5 members of my wife's family down from PA, so I'm always having to sneak off to get a couple of minutes to work on it. I started sanding today for the pommel, & it's slowly coming together great. I was able to find all my set screws, BUT... I snapped my D-ring clean in half trying to install it.:facepalm

Going to have to contact Dan to see if he has any extras he'd be willing to sell me.

Re: Luke ROTJ V2 lightsaber- based on the new info from SWCA (UPDATE PG 12)

My nicks and dings weren't so severe that I had issues with it (I was in the "NP" camp) and the extent that I went with beating my saber up, you would never be able to guess that it was there in the first place. All's well that ends well, I suppose.:unsure

wow, that looks awesome that's what I'll be aiming for :)

Thanks but it's even easier than it looks to get results like these. You'd actually be hard pressed to mess it up.

Yes you better. Just got your Kobold clip with D ring for my real Kobold and could not be happier with it. Can't wait to order the V2 lever :)

What's the mystery chunk???

Re: Luke ROTJ V2 lightsaber- based on the new info from SWCA (UPDATE PG 12)

What's the mystery chunk???

It was brought up in the V2 thread proper, when the SWCA photos popped up, that what was once thought as a fillister screw under the cone knob (on the pommel) is actually just a chunk of aluminium. No real origin or any part; it's just a misshapen chunk of metal. Next time I run to the hardware store, I'll be sure to pick up some scrap aluminium stock or something and fashion one myself.

I was in the same "problem" camp, and was also disappointed by the dings on the saber. The 1 part I needed to be perfect was the pommel, since I'm least likely to go through the hassle of making another one of those myself, and there are some serious dings. I'd hate to see the "no problem" sabers after seeing that. I'm not sure exactly what kind of parts that shop usually supplies where people don't care if they are dinged to crap. Just seems odd to me.

Haven't decided how best to proceed with cleaning mine up. I'll probably end up just making a whole new neck and emitter, chopping off the current neck, and threading them on my lathe. The pommel I'm really not sure about though. "Cleaning up" is another word for removing material, which automatically messes with the accuracy.

Really sucks what this shop dragged you through Dan.

Yeah, I live a 2 hour drive from Manhattan and I haven't gotten mine yet either. Its killing me, I'm so jealous of everyone else that is working on theirs already!

You're was mailed last week. Give it a couple of days and if it doesn't turn up, I'll go to the post-office and try to chase it down.

Again, if there's a problem with the parts that you received, please contact me via PM.
