Lost season 6 with spoilers beware

I agree with a lot of that. I'm thinking that it very well may be Des/Penny in the cave. It'd suck for them, but maybe the sacrifice is they wind up jumping back to 1905 or something to live out there lives. I guess it could be Rose/Bernard, but the bones looked on the pretty old side (old as in been there a long time).

The Dharma Initiative doesn't need much explanation. We all seemed to think it tied to Magnus Hanso, captain of the black rock, distant relative of Alvar Hanso who ran the dharma corporation. Looks like ole magnus was whacked by smokie in the 1800's so i'm not sure how they made a connection there. I figure someone brought to the island figured out how to get out - when they got out they told of the odd things that can go on there and the dharma people searched for, and found, the island and set up shop. Other than whack jobs like radzinsky they didn't seem to be too bad. There has to be some type of connection between Magnus and Alvar, but we'll likely never know what.

Charles and Eloise were the leaders of the others in the 70's, but i see the others as 'team jacob' so to speak. They may not have been candidates to take his job, but they were decidedly on his side. Perhaps they were people who were at one time candidates but didn't fit the bill but elected to stay on otherwise, i don't know. That's something i'd like them to explain, who are the others and why are they there. We know how Richard and Dogen got there and why they're there, but not the rest. Cindy (the stewardess) became an other it seems who made the bad choice of siding with smokie.

As for the six candidates, we don't know that one is Jin. I could be Sun. The only one who knows is jacob and he hasn't said yet. I like the idea, though, that eloise is a manifestation of the island, but if that's so, why was she a co-leader of the others in the 70's?

And as much as I agree with your ending - as do lots of other people/site/etc - i think it's too easy that we'd all guess the end this far out while we're still so much in the dark about so many things. Everytime people think they have something figured out, the writers seem to zag in another direction.

So, the voices are dead people that are stuck on the island because of bad choices they made, ala Michael.

Wow..Illana just blew up! I enjoyed the Hurley scenes, but have a bad feeling that Miles, Richard, and Ben are going to share Ilana's same fate.

How about Smokey throwing Desmond in the well?! You could se it coming, but man I was hoping that he would'nt. Pretty cool seeing side way's Locke's happy face slide across Desmonds windshield.

I hope that next week's preview is a trick. Looks side Sayid caps poor Desmond in the well:unsure

The Hurley scenes got to me... It was so great to see Libby again. :)

I expected Smokey to ditch Desmond in the well, but was shocked when Desmond ran Locke over. Before that he was all good guy, 'let's get the sweet lovers together' and then when in the island universe he's tossed in the well he all of a sudden in the sideways universe he goes beserk as if seeking revenge.

SO, does this mean the choices people make in the two universes are affecting each other?

Iilana pulled an Artz (sp). That was awesome. Good trick from the writers. Over the last couple of episodes I grew used to dynamite - then...

BAM!

quite literally. Caught me completely off-guard.

LOVE how Desmond has his mission and is reassembling the band. Love the character so like seeing him being such a lynchpin to the whole story.

Did anyone else notice that during the preview of next week that they had the song from the original Willy Wonka where Gene Wilder sings on the boat in the tunnel?

I think Desmond really understood Widmore and his "sacrifice" line. You could see it all come together when he walk talking with Daniel last episode.

Desmond has it semi figured out.

When all is said and done -

SOMEONE (plural?) is going to sacrifice themselves in order to keep Smokie on the Island while everyone else "dies" on the island, but get to continue to "live" in their sideways story lines.

Hence Desmond is taking Smokie out in the sideways timeline.

Just my crazy $0.02

I don't think he was getting revenge on Locke. He knows Smokey isn't Locke, but I think the reason Smokie can't change to other forms is because he's somehow linked to the sideways real Locke. And maybe if Desmond kills him, it will kill Smokie.

I also enjoyed this episode a lot. The explosions both made me laugh. I just love it that Hurley blew up the black rock.

Mind you, if Ben and Richard knew where stable explosives were all along, why not just get them in the first place?

Yeah, that really took me out of the moment. They just watched one of their own blow-up from the unstable dynamite - then they go to get more because the really, really need it to blow up the cocckpit. But wait! Now that the dynamite is gone they just saunder off to get the hidden stable explosives that were available all along.

Come on, writers - I have come to expect so much more from you on this show.

Maybe running over Locke will lead him to Jack who will cure his paralysis.

Good idea.
I definitely think Desmond was trying to help Locke remember like he's done with the rest of the Losties. Charlie and Des didn't remember until they nearly died. He wasn't trying to kill Locke.

Blowing up another character was shocking, and disappointing considering the comment by Ben, "Wonder how we'll go when the island is done with us." If they do just kill people off because the island/Jacob are really that ice cold... it'll seem pointless for the island/Jacob to choose you and not meaningful.

Whose that kid following Smoky? Jacob?

Where is the Dharma Camp compared to the Black Rock, maybe it's a days trek further and they've been trying to save time by handling unstable explosives - and maybe they are convinced if they are doing the island's will, they can't die.

Getting Jack and John back together is an interesting possibility. It would mean Desmond has to know who the connecting parties are to bring back memories and that John is 'meant' not to die when he gets plowed over by a car and will naturally get seen by Jack - and healed. But maybe Desmond's faith and knowledge is greatly increasing because he's still waking up, switching between realities.

In the island reality I couldn't tell if he knew Locke was Smoky and not real Locke - anyone else have any theories? If he really thought Locke was Locke, maybe he thought in the sideways reality that Locke was bad. I don't know... I hope they do explain it though and don't go back to the early scripts of just mystery for mystery sake.

Which reminds me, we had another typical 'early Lost' moment last night. Richard tells Hurley to ask Jacob what the island is but when Hurley doesn't and Richard accuses him of lying, not ONE of the characters whose lives have been turned upside down by this crazy, mysterious island turns to Richard and says, so, anyway, since you know, "WHAT THE HECK IS THE ISLAND???"

That would have been nice to tell us too. :rolleyes It seemed Hurley confirmed a purgatory for island wrong doers, and the whispers aren't time travelers, as I thought before.

As for the creepy song in next weeks preview, it sounded to me like BEN was singing.

Sweet episode!!! Love any episode centered around Hurley. Coolest character on the show. Glad to see Libby once again. Not exactly sure what's up with Desmond, but I'm liking how his character(s) have evolved in all this. He is a man on a mission and it has little to do with what his pa-in-law wants. Very interesting. Loved seeing Locke taking a short flight across the hood......LOL. It's also fun to see Ben in his "I'm screwed it's just a matter of time" frame of mind. He has asked for his plight from the very beginning. I do grow tired of Michael popping up here and there. He's almost like Ben as far as which character I want to see killed and remain quietly dead!

Guri, I thought the same thing at first, then as I listened to more, it was Gene Wilder singing the creepy song in Willie Wonka (original) while they are on the freaky gondola.

Dave :)

The dharma camp is supposedly a day or two's trek from the beach camp. The black rock isn't as far. I seem to remember them camping during one of the first trips to 'New otherton' :)

Ilyana blowing up was a big surprise, but on hindsight - she did simply drop that bag on the ground. I remember Artz and even Richard I beleive telling people to be super careful with the dyanmite because it was very unstable. None of it was stable, just some was better off than others. Dropping that bag like that was idiotic and the expected result...KABOOM!

For the last protector, seemed a bizarre way to go. But I guess it seems to be getting down to 'the candidates' having to figure out the solution and no one else.

Des running down Locke in the alternate universe was just a 'wow' moment. My guess was he feels locke is the bad guy in the original universe and that killing him here would help fight him where he's smokie. Then I read the theory above that it was to help him see/remember the other 'verse. STILL we have no clue what they're doing! :)

I can't imagine Des's role is simply to get people in the other universe to realize their other memories. They better not kill him. I was wondering if the well he got dumped down was near the orchid and that it may give him access to move the island or something else.

OK, Why do they need Dynamite?

You can dissable a plane with a pocket knife and cutting a few hydraulic lines, spill the fuel onto the ground, slash the tires, burn it, etc...

WHY DO THEY NEED THE DYNAMITE?

You can't repair KABOOM.

You have to actually know where to find the hydraulic lines, let alone get there, etc.

Plus, who's to say how far off the island smokie needs to get to 'end everything?' If he has to get a mile past the island, you don't need much gas or hyrdaulics or anything.

Also, don't forget the sub. Smokie didn't know it was there. However, Sayid surely told him or will tell him at some point. The good losties don't know this. Smokie could know the plan to blow up the plane and let them and make a play for the sub since widmore doesn't think he knows that it's there.

I read this one somewhere else, made me giggle:

Hugo mentions to his mom that he must attend an event for the Human Fund. This is a fictional charity created by George Costanza on Seinfeld.

When I saw Des run Locke over and it showed Locke laying there, like he was in the walkabout episode in season 1, I was thinking oh snap maybe he'll get up and start walking. Then I just thought it was to jog his memory of the island. I don't think it had anything to do with Smokie throwing Des down the well.

Also, loved the preview for next week and the willy wonka song. That part of willy wanke always creeped me out as a kid, but now I think it's a bit funny.
