“Spares”? Seriously? Why?

Why a spare? You never know what life is going to throw at you. Divorced first wife, went to the cleaner (lawyer, court, etc...) Thanks to my spares, I survived the blows and was able to rent an apt. pay for my food and the likes...did I get the money/real value for those? Nope! I've slowly built my collection again, over the years and when I see some of the prices, I'm always buying 2 of the same prop/model...you never know;)

I will buy one to play with and one to save. Or depending on what it is, like a phaser or communicator or even Uniform shirt etc I might have a friend who wants to cosplay but does not have the equipment. Its more fun when more people can play.
But I admit I sometimes get frustrated when I see people showing off the collections of 25 Art Asyslum Phasers and I was not even able to purchase one (at the time) or any similar example. I mean obviously people can do whatever they want with their own money. And from a business perspective a wise investor will keep at lest one sealed and saved in new condition for resale at a higher price later. That's not really scalping that's investing.
There is a grey area and a line I feel we should not cross:
Such as when I see people buying The Wand Company Tricorders now and reselling them before the general pubic has even had a chance to try at HIGHLY inflated prices - that is scalping for sure - Especially if they don't even have it in hand themselves yet! You're not an investor, you're an *******. Just my opinion.

“Psaab keel”, boy, I wish I had as much time on my hands as you do. Not that I feel I have to answer to you or anyone else, it’s commonly known that I own a toy store. I take multiple advance orders from many of my customers so that they may keep up with their collections, no secret there.
Your need to “call me out” does not answer my question. I’m gathering for my customers. What’s YOUR excuse?

Simple answer - It'a a commodity -

Anyone here want to sell me a few shares of Microsoft or Apple for what you paid for it in the Eighties? - Why not?

Expecting someone to sell you an item for it's original sale price instead of it's actual current value is a special kind of denial of reality.
Money and all other commodities have a time/value - Some increase some decrease.

I've got some pieces I've made a good profit on by selling at the right time - I occasionally bet on the wrong horse & come out behind - When that happens and I have a piece I need to sell at a loss I don't see folks lining up to pay me what I originally paid when they can get the same item cheaper elsewhere. Again - Where are the folks willing to pay me what I paid?

Not trying to start a fight - I guess it's nice if you have an extra & want to sell it to a friend at break even - That's kind of a gift - But to ask a stranger for that favor????

It only took a few minutes to compile those and I already answered your initial topic about my collecting multiples of certain props in an earlier post. I also made another post acknowledging the challenges you face in the non essential goods market and trying to stay afloat. I'm also in the same market, and I take no issue with anyone buying more than one of anything, or making a fair profit. That wasn't the issue.

What I found hypocritical was the implied judgement against other people doing it, going so far as to call it, "scalper bait." Surely you can see the irony.

After spending all that time searching my threads ( a few minutes my a**) you can clearly see that I do buy many things to turn a profit. So the “scalper bait” comment was clearly tongue in cheek (look it up).
You see, I own a toy store so I have overhead. This means rent, payroll, power, water, insurance, backstock, etc. I don’t work for free. I’m sure you don’t make your dresses for free, do you? We have to eat.
I can’t believe what started as a simple query, you’ve turned this into a witch-hunt.
However, if you want to spend more time stalking me, more power to you. I’m off to get laid.
I’m out.

I'll acknowledge I mistook sarcasm/ jest as being a serious indictment against other collectors, which if it were, I would have stood by what I posted. Admittedly, given that I was mistaken, my response was excessive and I apologize. I'd hoped that by explaining multiple times that I'm in no position to judge the habits of other collectors, and acknowledging the difficulties of running a retail shop that deals with non essential goods, I too could empathize with the difficulties of trying to eek out a living. Seriously. Trying to do this full time is no joke whether you make costumes or you sell toys- the struggles are the same.

Funky my apologies. Text based interactions can lead to misreads, and I misread.
