Lost season 6 with spoilers beware

I don't recall any explanation for locke not being able to change form anymore, just that he couldn't. He hasn't changed form since the beginning of S5 to my knowledge - he's been locke since then.

They haven't explained it yet on the show. I was just taking a educated guess...or in lost terms a shot in the dark:lol

Both in show (Illana) and out of show (producers) have stated that Jacob's death is the reason MIB can only take Locke's form now.

I was thinking that maybe when Locke was sucked in under the temple MIB was trying to take him over but only got a part way through and that MIB couldn't fully leave the island unless all the Losties did at the same time...

Which might be why Locke was trying to get everyone to go back to the island, so they can all leave together, with MIB?

But that doesn't make sense because didn't Jacob tell Ben to kill Locke?

I don't know anymore. It's all running together. I'd need to watch things back to back again to follow.

I agree! As to Locke, I just read Jeff Jensen's write-up at ew.com, and he blew my mind by saying that not only is Locke really Locke, but the Smoke Monster has been hiding in plain sight in Frank Lapidus this whole time.

If that happens, I may weep little girly tears.

Locke was stabbed in the chest and survived, and there's the small problem of having an extra Locke corpse around. If he's NOT smokey, there's a whole 'nother round of explaining to do!

Yeah, and there wasn't even any blood!

I think the reason I'm so enamored with the theory, though, is because it's the sort of weird we've come to expect from this show.

It's a good assumption that the MIB can read peoples memories after they're dead. He did it with Remy, Ekos brother and with Jacks father.
Not necessarily.. he read the memories of Yemi from Eko's own mind during their stare-down in Season 2. And Christian Shepard.. well, I'm still of the belief that we've seen multiple iterations of Christian. Some of them were Smokey, and some of them were either Jacob, or Christian's ghost (maybe trapped on the Island the same way Michael is). We have seen him in two places at once, after all.. there was a bit in Season 5, when Smokey was over on Hydra island, and yet Christian had a conversation with Sun and Frank back at the Barracks. There's a good bet that particular Christian was NOT Smokey.

I don't see how it could make sense that Locke could have been the smoke monster all along. In the first or second episode Locke met the smoke monster and had that stare down; the same person can't be in two places at the same time. After meeting the smoke monster was when Locke explained the "rules" to Walt, perhaps the monster told Locke something.
No, Locke was not Smokey.. Smokey was Locke. According to the theory, the Locke we saw in Seasons 1-4 was the real live flesh-and-blood John Locke. At the end of Season 6, we'll apparently see him come back to life and get thrown back in time. So that future-Locke/Smokey was on the Island when present-Locke showed up.

Look at it this way. Remember that scene in Season 5, back in Dharmaville, when Miles is standing outside of Dr. Chang's window, looking in? At himself as a baby? Same thing.. Lockes from two different times are in the same place at the same time. Future-Locke knows who Past-Locke is, but Past-Locke doesn't. He just sees.. something. Whatever he saw that first time, it was NOT a smoke monster. Maybe he described it as "beautiful" because he literally saw something of himself in whatever he was presented with. Remember, he was quite surprised when he saw Smokey's "natural" form at the end of Season 1, and he was frightened. It was pretty obvious back then that Smokey presented him with something very different that first time they met.

I imagine we're going to see a answer-drenched flashback of Smokey before this show ends. Then we'll know for sure. :)

Oh, and can someone explain why I'm vehemently defending this Smokey-is-Locke argument? I thought it was bollocks until this week, and while there's a degree of probability involved now, I still don't really believe it.. lol. I think I'm just trying to get people to understand what the theory is and the confusion over Smokey-is-Locke, but Locke-is-not-Smokey.

:lol It was a good read and thanks for trying... I still don't get it. Maybe I'll reread it in the morning after some sleep.

Plus there's that ep where Jack talks to Christian in the hospital, off the Island. Smokey don't play dat. :)

OK, this is hard but try to keep up: The Jedi2016 from Dimension X goes by Sandman2016 because he was born ten years earlier. Having read the first year of STARLOG and the STAR TREK POSTER MAGAZINE, he's more apt to dismiss SF tv from 2010. The Jedi2016 from our dimension spends a lot of his time 3D modelling but still enjoys a good episode of LOST and likes figuring stuff out. Also, he likes Locke, if only for the fact that he carries a knife the whole show. So he's got a soft spot for the guy, and hopes for the best.

Close? :)

I don't think so. Jacob made it quite clear to Richard that he doesn't want to get involved directly with people. He does things in a more round about way.
Also we've never seen proof that Jacob can shape shift. Up until now it's just Smokey that's shifted. Jacob when talking to people has always appeared as himself.
Since Smokey can't leave the island my guess is it's spirts appearing to people much in the same way Hurley saw Eko and Charlie when he was in the asylum off island.

Dead is dead in the Lost-verse, we haven't seen anybody come back from the dead. For this to work Locke would have had to be thrown back in time before he died so that he could then become whatever the smoke monster is. If he went back in time at this moment, it would just be the MIB.

Also MIB's story about his mother seems to fit Aaron better and Aaron according to the fortune teller is supposed to have some larger purpose. With that said, I could see him traveling back in time before Locke who is currently resting 6 feet under ground.

You know, if nothing else, I could never understand (hear) all the lyrics to that great, dark, wonderful song, so thanks for that!

Man, Evil Locke is really having a bad day. Claire seems to have turned on him, Sayid may have turned on him, the other candidates boosted his boat... and Widmore is shelling his minions.

Can someone repost the Sawyer/Jack convo on the boat before Jack walked the plank? Someone decided to start a conversation with me right while they were talking.

:lol You knew they had to go at some point... It's like the pilot, I keep wondering when he's going to die to show the situation is serious, or if they're just keeping him around because it's too far of a stretch to pretend one of the Losties can fly that plane. Either way, I figure, so long as he's still around, the sub isn't the only way off.

The gist of it:

Jack - Leaving doesn't feel right... Just like last time, I feel like I'm leaving a part of myself back on the island. There's something else we're supposed to do. The island isn't done with us yet.

Sawyer - Get off my boat.

*Splash*

Well, if the LDM is telling the truth, then 2 long-standing (minor) questions have been answered (at least openly) - the smoke monster was indeed Christian on day three and in the shack with Claire. Of course, we already knew that, but it has now been officially answered.

Only about 43,894 more questions to answer in the handful of episodes left. :wacko

We also found out that someone must be dead for the MIB to take their shape. Something we already knew but again has been now said out loud.

Great episode, and I still keep coming back to the question "is the MIB really evil". He's been heavily painted as such but then again so was Ben, the others and Widmore and as we learned more about them we found that they were not evil incarnate as originally depicted.
I'm eagerly waiting for "across the sea" to find out what Jacobs backstory is.
