lost boys MARKO jacket replica!

Working on an XL. It has some logistical issues because the original is a medium but it's still "doable", it's just not going to be 100% accurate. The cut patterns posted are for a medium so they have to be modified to accommodate the larger size. Most notably would be the leopard middle piece that goes on the arm will need to be cut smaller so that extra material will go for the head and tail pieces that goes on the front and back. The pieces need to be cut taller too.The front peacock piece needs to be made wider and taller, as well as the back piece that has the little building on it hanging down needs to be cut wider as well. If you're doing this, lay out your cut lines with 1/4" painters tape and triple check all your measurements before cutting.

Has anyone attempted to or considered getting the tapestry with the wrong color sky and bleaching it then redyeing it? I'm very seriously considering giving it a shot. I got lucky and got the matador tapestry on ebay but have had no luck with the other two and theres so many peacocks with blue backgrounds out there

I saw where someone was going to attempt it, but I believe it was advised against to try and prevent ruining if you couldn't contain the bleed through. The "hunt" is the hardest part of the jacket so far for me and the most time consuming. I'm just about to start actually putting together the jacket almost 3 months later.

Don't waste your time or money, it will turn into a dumpster fire. Keep looking on ebay, etsy, and Facebook marketplace they turn up all the time. You have to check daily because when they get posted, people buy them quickly.

So I decided to see what it would look like if I got my tapestries professionally cleaned. The first two images are them before getting cleaned and the last three are after the cleaning. I can definitely tell some improvement, but maybe not to justify the price. It was right under $100 to get all three cleaned by an oriental rug company who hand washed each of them for me. They're maybe a little shinier, the matador one also smelled of smoke and it got the smell out. I would only say you should probably do it if they are really soiled or smell terrible. Or if you just got money burning a whole in your pocket lol.

That part normally gets thrown away so if someone still has that part it's "extra" FYI. I unfortunately threw away all my scrap pieces but if someone is in the process of making a jacket it's nice to help each other out, remember that's why we're all here. It needs to be roughly 6" long. Thanks in advance.View attachment 1732911

Congrats on finishing it! I'm about to start the process of cutting everything out and sewing it. I'm nervous on doing everything.

Nice job(y)

Hey y'all- i'm new to the forum and have scrolled through the thread a few times but have not seen a hi-res image of the matador tapestry for the hero jacket that could easily be used to print. I was hoping to go ahead and get it printed on Contrado instead of having to cut up a tapestry that doesn't *quite* fit.
Does anyone have an image that they have used on Contrado that they would be willing to share with me?

Thanks for your help everybody- ive already gotten a TON of amazing information from the work and research that has but posted here!

thanks so much! it only took like 5 days(which was suprising) ....but i am a quick at hand sewing - took a month or so for the fabrics but also - my actual job is to source fabric so that might not be the case for everyone. Have so much fun piecing it together i loved that part - it is trickier than it looks if you feel stuck - take a few minutes and then come back usually helps!

The matador, leopard, and peacock are like little rugs. Unfortunately it doesn't work for Contrado because using their plush material it leaves white roots because their dye process doesn't get full penetration. We've tried and it doesn't work well. Keep looking at ebay, etsy, Facebook Marketplace and you'll eventually find what you need. You need to have patience, if you don't then this is definitely not the project for you.

Yes I've already bought the peacock, but as per one of your last comments (could have been someone else's,) if they had known about Contrado earlier, they would have preferred printing instead of cutting up the rare tapestries. I was going off of this idea because I also have that preference.
I have been looking for a month now which I know is early in the process so I know i've got time before anything else pops up.
Ive gone through similar projects and certainly have the patience. Thanks!

Just keep hunting on Facebook marketplace and eBay and stuff. I felt the same and feel the same about the tapestries. But most people don't care to sell them or have been letting them rot away somewhere before cleaning their attic out. It gives them a second life. It made me not feel as bad about it.
