lost boys MARKO jacket replica!

Spectemur Agendo!
Well I finally finished my David jacket to be displayed with my Marko jacket. I still need to get a nice case for it but I wanted to share what I have so far. I was able to identify the correct pieces with help from The Lost Boys Facebook group moderators. The jacket was identified as a 1939 Clothcraft by the Prop Store. I was able the find one and match it by the label and the inside pattern of the coat the Prop Store listed.

Okay as much as it pained me I agree 100% about weathering, it's not as authentic unless it's somewhat weathered. Kind of like a un-weathered Star Wars Sandtrooper. You work so hard though for perfection, and it's so perfect, and then your supposed to mess it all up. It's hard to do that. So I decided to just "lightly" weather it. I frayed the front of the leopard tapestry a little more and used earthtone pastel chalk to "dirty" up the white patches. I think that's as much weathering as I'm going to do. The movie used jackets are HEAVILY weathered and I'm not going to do that.View attachment 1484763View attachment 1484764

So, I have been working on my second jacket (2.0). The first was pretty good, but there were some small mistakes that kinda bugged me. That being said, I wanted to take the time to share some of the less visible areas with everyone hoping it will clarify some Grey areas. Now I by no means claim to be an expert, or claim my jacket is 100% correct, it is my interpretation of the photos I have studied. Of the four jackets we have photos of, they are ALL different. I was kind of leaning towards the movie version, however I did not put the number 13 patch on top of the orange live to ride banner and opted to put it under like most of the other jackets. Anyway here's some pics of the progress thus far.

Could you remind me what type of thread you used again? I can't even tell that you sewed these on! :)

I thought I'd do something fun to encourage the RPF members that have made, or are making Marko jacket replicas. I've created a "Wall of Fame", and to be included you must be a member of the RPF, have made the jacket yourself, and it has to be a reasonable facsimile of one of the jackets used. Sorry "Tribute jackets" are not included. There was at least four known documented jackets, the three most popular are the Prop Store hero, Prop Store stunt, and the screen use Alex Winter version. These are listed in chronological order.
1.) bdude93 stunt version.
2.) Vinnytats Prop Store hero (signed by Alex Winter).
3.) Charlie Tearz screen version.
4.) Pennywise screen version (signed by Alex Winter).
5.) Rusty85 Prop Store hero (signed by Alex Winter).
6.) Tiggersmom Prop Store hero.
7.) SlimSadie screen/ PS hero combo.
8.) Your name here...

What colour?
Whatever color you want, I used several. The Upholstery thread I went with black. The other regular thread, I just matched whatever I was sewing. Some of the larger patches I used the Upholstery thread on too, like for example the big one on the arm and some of the others. Please private message me so we don't swamp this post with this conversation.

So I've had a lot of people ask me about cut patterns for the tapestries. The Leopard is always the same, but the Peacock and Matador is different depending on the different directions being a Hero or Stunt jacket. Here's a rough idea of what I have come up with. Now I don't claim to be an expert but I'm fairly sure this is the general rough outline of the pieces. Before cutting, layout your cut lines with 1/4" painters tape and double check your measurements. Also note this is a cut pattern for a mens size medium which is what the movie used jacket was. If you are doing a different size jacket you will need to consider making cut adjustments accordingly.
It's also note worthy that the direction of the bull is actually the same on the Stunt and Hero which would necessitate buying both direction tapestries if your doing a Stunt version. I lined it out anyway in case someone didn't want to buy both and just use the bull facing the wrong way, because honestly nobody is gonna notice anyway. I've seen people also use a Leopard tapestry facing the wrong way and it works fine, it's not accurate, but it works.

Just an update for the new people. My preference for patch vendors is as follows with the pros and cons of each source.
First is PopCoutureCrafts
The pros are: their patches are amazing quality, detail, not expensive, and are almost identical to the real thing.
The cons are: they do not make the larger patches like the the Motorcycle Skull arm patch and the back Warriors patch.
Which brings me to the next
Her pros are: she makes the Motorcycle Skull arm patch, back Warriors patch, and a few others that IMO are better than PCC as far as accuracy. Also, her patches are top quality in detail and craftsmanship.
Her cons are: the way her Etsy shop is set up it's a real hassle to order from her, her communication is poor, she doesn't sell all the patches, and wait times can be up to a month. She does deliver nice patches though.
Now for some one stop shopping, Patches by Sonya
Sonya's pros are: she makes all of the patches, her prices are fair, good friendly communication, and she delivers quickly.
Her cons are: the level of quality and detail just are not IMO the best. They are a very nice alternative and excellent resource if someone isn't super picky and just wants to make a fun jacket to wear.

Update for new people for the "Ladies", the leg piece, and the Anarchy & Black skull patch. The leg and patches can be printed as "samples".
The vendor is Contrado
The pros of this vendor is good price, quality products, quick reliable delivery.
The cons are: their website is difficult to order from for the less computer savvy individuals.
When ordering the "Ladies" choose the Chi-Chi Furnishings Velour material, it is an excellent match to the original tapestries. The size is 21"×42", while this measurement isn't exact, it is very close.
Note: the measurement is for a movie size medium jacket, if your making a larger jacket it would be beneficial to make it larger by a few inches. Also, make sure you have downloaded the image in high resolution, you can verify this by zooming in on the image, it should be sharp and crisp. If it gets blurry it wasn't downloaded correctly, re-try downloading it to get it in hi-res.
The Skull and Anarchy are printed on heavy 14.7 oz. canvas. They will also need to be taken to a tailor and have a black overlock stitch run around the perimeter to keep it from fraying.
The leg is printed on Chi-Chi Furnishings Velour same as the ladies and on a 8.25"×11.75" swatch.

Well now. Looks like I've run out of room here. Both temple and matador floor will not fit in this gap. Anybody else run into problems like this?

Any "extra" material lose it under the arms where it's not as noticeable. Also do not sew your bottom pieces on until you verify you have enough room for the top pieces because you will probably need to "lose" some material that way too. Otherwise your not gonna have enough space and will be angry when you have to tear it apart to fix it. You're gonna have to think outside of the box and get creative and I'm sure you can make it work. If you have any questions message me privately
I studied everybody's photos again and figured it out. But I am searching for another peacock as I believe I cut off a part I wasn't supposed to. If I have time I'll send it in a pm.

Hello everyone!! Im at my wits end...I gotta get a peacock somehow, or use contrada to get one, if anyone could tell me the dimensions of their peacock Id appreciate it! its the only tapestry I havent been able to get a hold of!

The original jacket was a 1980's black Levis jacket size 40 (medium) with the small brown label. Those are rare and expensive now. A suitable alternative is the modern Gap version. The denim is correct and the pattern is almost identical. You will need to remove all the buttons, the cuffs, the bottom of the the jacket, the outside pockets, and the inside pockets. DO NOT remove any seams!!! only material, otherwise your jacket will fall apart!!! After doing this wash it to get the correct fraying.
