Well..... what about the weather satelite control keys from Superman 3...... and errr cant remember after reading all the posts but did the TARDIS keys make their way in to the list? Standard and with chip attatched?
I figured I'd reach back a bit farther into the past for a suggestion. In Random Harvest Ronald Colman's character carries around a key he feels is important but just can't quite remember what lock it fits or how he got it.
Well, it's not a 'cartoon', it's stop motion... So they did make physical keys... The only time they look a little different is when the scale of the key is different (tiny ones for far away, large ones for close ups, etc). But that's basically what it should look like. Uneven teeth, not very clean... Obviously it's supposed to look like an _old_ key, not like the promo key that looks geometrically perfect.
I don't even consider the promo key a 'replica', no attempt was made to make it look like the screen-used one other than the basic shape. Sort of like the promo Inception top, it only barely looks like the screen used one in basic shape, but when compared to screen shots, it's way off...
The Coraline key was one of the first that I got 3d printed on Shapeways. I based mine on the view below. As Jintosh pointed out, it changed several times, but this one was the largest/most detailed. It's printed in Matte Black Steel. Good and heavy.
I don't currently have it for sale on Shapeways, but I guess I could change that.
And just to keep the thread going, here's a few more movie keys:
I always thought the Clock of Ages from the first Tomb Raider movie fit solidly into the "key" category - Got mine from Relicmaker's run, earlier this year:
And the Bedknob from Bedknobs and Broomsticks worked as a key as well. I've been working on making this one myself. There's a fairly good description of how the original prop was made here:
If we're going broad, what about the pen that Hannibal Lechter steals towards the end (Silence of the Lambs), using the pocket clip to uncuff himself and escape?

I am trying to limit my obsession over props lately. Somehow I thought it would be easy, and we all know it never is, to put together the Evil Dead cabin keys. Well, I could write a whole new thread over this debacle.... Towards the end of the page is a photo of the screen used keys. Now, I have verified that indeed these are the keys by first looking at the film and second by scouring the internet only to come up short of exactly the on screen keys. One major issue is that short padlock key. I have five almost exact keys now. But that double bit is so rare... Also, I don't think all five long keys are exactly the same, but close. My issue, is that finding them with squared head edges, like the padlock key, is nearly impossible. I'm almost certain these keys were bought at a hardware store as replacement stock. I can't find true vintage ones that match the screen. Also, the ring, dear god. I have a solid brass ring (3" outer, 2.5" inner) that is so close but, of course, the most accurate keys I have are too tight to fit. What I have is like 95% accurate, but of course with costly trial and errors along the way. My wife is ready to put me away now. http://bookofthedead.ws/website/interviews_don_campbell.html
