Licensed Batman Related Leather Goods. Batman Arkham Knight, REVEAL 10/03

Re: It's Official! We got the Batman License. Website Updated

David used to work with leather garments/jackets before getting into costuming.

It is top notch stuff, so it just seems like a an easy (maybe long and grueling :lol) transition from Batman latex/urethane to leather.

Check out the previous generic leather suits he did that were done with a real world Batman in mind.

OH RIGHT!! UGH stupid stupid me. I forgot that he also put out that great Batman Begins styled suit back in the day. THAT WAS ALSO AMAZING. why didn't I get in on that back then? cuz I was an idiot...

I still hold that the suit should come with pictures or a little book: the making of... I always find it cool to get behind the scene shots of the assembly line, or factory, or funny blooper shots or something....

So take pictures guys!! this suit is epic and i'm sure your behind the scene shots will be leaked 10 years from now on the RPF, and you'll have all the newbies trying to analyze those pictures, and correct for lens distortion, trying to figure out how in the heck you guys did what you did.

Re: It's Official! We got the Batman License. Website Updated

You guys are all great. I cant tell you how proud your comments make us feel. :)

Ghadrack thanks so much for the kind words and for the business. :thumbsup You're really going to love this and we look forward to your review.
Boots, probably going up next week. Again, that's something Dave has to give us the go ahead on and...well...currently he's all over the place.:lol

So I have a few questions.

How did you guys learn leatherwork so quickly? I mean, I know you guys are "batman" people, and your work thus far has been top notch. I've seen a lot of dave's work, in progress pics, and final products and it involves sculpting with clay, latex and/ or urethane. So I didn't really see too much leather work involved in any batman projects.

What was the inpiration for the idea to make the tdk suit leather?

How did you learn how to work with a completely different medium than most batman products so quickly and with such quality? was this a side hobby of you guys or something?

I guess it's just like a behind the scenes type question.

OOO perhaps you should put out a dvd with the suit - The making of...

These are great questions. :) The 'short' answer is Universal Designs was set up as a costume business with the ability to produce both rubber and leather wear right from day one. Probably because of the 'replica' nature of this board, some if not most of our leather work has gone unnoticed over the last while but we've since day one been very much a part of the leather outerwear world.

In the 90's Dave moved to Italy to learn the in's and out's of the garment industry....which he associates to 'learning how to swim in a sea of man eating sharks', but he made the most of his 8ish years there and that experience is how we now are able to do what we do with leather outerwear.

How this applies to Batman is simple..."Batman fans need leather jackets!" It started with an idea, that quickly evolved into a licensing agreement and the goods you see us showcasing...err 'pimping out' is probably a better suited term:lol:lol.

Here's a great article by Girls Entertainment Network that discusses these things in a very in depth Q&A with Dave.

Territory and Distribution Update!

It is with great pride that we make this announcement.
We have now obtained 'Direct to Consumer' sales to Australia and The United Kingdom.

As it stands, we now can sell all our Batman Leather Outerwear to the USA, Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia.

This means that we can accept orders directly from the UK and AU, and be able to ship to those territories as well.

Please give us time to update the website to accommodate these new territories!

Thanks!

Re: Licensed Batman Related Leather Goods. UK and AU Territory Sales Added!

Out of curiousity, is the bat-logo on the chest of the jacket removable? I ask because I'm wondering if this jacket could be worn unzipped and still look as cool as it already does!

Re: Licensed Batman Related Leather Goods. UK and AU Territory Sales Added!

Are you planning to put the same time limitation on the offer for the boots when they go up for sale? (The October 31, 2009 deadline for orders that is?) Just need to know how judiciously I need to check the site for updates :)

No, the logo is part of the construction of the upper pectoral muscle groups. It's beautifully embossed and permanently embedded into the leather. :)

Ghadrack,
No, the boots wont have the same deadline as the rest of the suit. :) When they go up for sale they'll also have plenty of time before the cut off so that everyone needing a set can place their order accordingly.

Lots of excitement and a bunch of great press is all over the net for this motorcycle suit.

UD Replicas Debuts Meticulously Designed, Highly Detailed Dark Knight Motorcycle Suit

Iconic Batman Suit, Officially Licensed By Warner Bros. Consumer Products, Custom-Made and Limited to 1,000 Pieces Worldwide

TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Conveying the strength, elegance and awesome power of The Dark Knight, UD Replicas – the officially licensed division of Universal Designs Ltd. – has begun production on a replica Dark Knight Motorcycle Suit, and orders are being taken at the company’s website, www.udreplicas.com.

Produced under license from Warner Bros. Consumer Products on behalf of DC Comics, the Universal Designs Dark Knight Motorcycle Suit is a stunning recreation of one of the most iconic movie costumes of all time. The Dark Knight Motorcycle Suit comprises a full-leather jacket that includes lightweight interior lining, as well as molded-leather and Kevlar armor sections; pants that include heavy-duty, four-way stretch Spandex inserts and CE-approved armor; authentic gloves and boots that replicate the amazing on-screen design.

Each Dark Knight Motorcycle Suit can be customized to fit sizes ranging from XXS to XXL. Orders can be placed exclusively at www.udreplicas.com, and each Dark Knight Motorcycle Suit retails for $998 U.S. (or $1,149 CDN for orders placed in Canada, United Kingdom and Australia). A maximum of 1,000 Dark Knight Motorcycle Suits will be created.

“No film of the 21st century has been as visually stunning as The Dark Knight, and we’re proud to be working directly with Warner Bros. Consumer Products to ensure accuracy and authenticity in every custom-made Motorcycle Suit,” said David Pea, owner of Universal Designs. “The Dark Knight is one of the highest-grossing movies all time, and continues to spark the imagination of fans everywhere.”

The Dark Knight Motorcycle Suit is an intricate, complex design, he added – one that has required the company to invent entirely new ways of working. “Although we are strictly limiting the quantity to 1,000 suits worldwide, we want each one to be of extraordinarily high quality, and that has meant creating new machinery and new production methods,” Pea said. “We couldn’t be bigger fans of Batman, so we’re very proud that Warner Bros. Consumer Products has given us such remarkable access to the original suit and the designs used in the production of the movie.”

Shy? Then this suit is perfect for you!:cool

The logo is part of the construction of the upper pectoral muscle groups. It's beautifully embossed and permanently embedded into the leather. Considering this is a Batman outerwear line, and more to the point a replica of the movie used suit.. removing the Bat logo is not something we're offering as a variant for purchasing, sorry.
The forearm gauntlets are removable though.:cool

Also, have a look at what the masses are saying outside of the message boards....if you have a few minutes to kill, check out some of these links.:angel

I was under the impression that the soles were a found item, which was recently identified and located. Did you guys end up replicating the off-the-shelf sole instead of sourcing it? If so, is it a close match??

We replicated the screen used boot sole, which has really been the goal of this product line since going public with it, to be as accurate and as faithful as possible to what was seen on screen...and unfortunately anything off the shelf was not close enough for our purposes.

The tour suits used an off the shelf sole...that much we know as fact, and that's what may be the 'assumed' boot sole used on screen by many...at least that's my impression based on people's own research and public discussions posted. It's certainly similar, that's for sure.:)

The movie boot soles were either entirely custom made or heavily customized....what was seen on screen was not just a simple off the shelf item. What I can confirm is that our soles are an identical match to what was used for the movie boots. Had either of the 'off the shelf' available soles been an exact match to the screen worn soles then I can assure you that we wouldn't have gone through the trouble of making these custom ones as seen here. :)

As November comes around and these go up on the site, we'll discuss them in greater detail. Consider this a bit of preview for now. :)
