Lethal Weapon - Riggs' Beretta

Re: Beretta 92 Experts - Need help...

I like the idea of painting it silver. Sticker or not, it distinguishes it as the gun from that scene - Riggs' gun.

Quite possibly, and good assessment. The more I think about it, the more I think it was in fact a sticker. and IMFDB says it was "gold" which may actually be the yellow you refer to.

From IMFDB: "An identifying feature of this particular 92F was the gold finish on the Beretta logos on the grips."

The overall disc on my grip is 7/8"...

Feh! IMFDB is mostly guys like us guessing about things. :) I think my very first impression was that it was one of those gold foil stickers that you put on a diploma and then emboss, but it's obviously not one of those because it doesn't have the "toothed" outer edge.

Re: Beretta 92 Experts - Need help...

All quite possible...

I think I'll stick to silver paint and - considering Riggs & Murtaugh live in a slightly fictional version of our world - go with the idea that in their, world Beretta indeed offered a special edition with silver logos!

Re: Beretta 92 Experts - Need help...

Supposed I should be concerned about water intrusion into the working parts of the slide/barrel assembly as I wet sand?

Re: Beretta 92 Experts - Need help...

Got the paint on, and effectively covered over all the Taurus etching/lettering. Now waiting on the second coat to cure so I can sand.

I ended up painting the entire slide body forward of the barrel opening (or, forward of the grips above the slide release), masking only the barrel. Greatest challenge now is sanding without taking it down to bare metal on all the sharp edges. Sand too much and it looks like the real gun does today (too worn for my tastes).

Finished and sanded properly, it should look just like this:

Re: Lethal Weapon - Riggs Beretta

Finished it up today, except the barrel muzzle. See opening post for pics.

Thanks all for your help - Rob especially in steering me towards the air soft.

Anyone want a cheap Denix!?

Re: Lethal Weapon - Rigg's Beretta

1. Excellent work! (No surprise there.)
2. "Remain compliant" with what?
3. Riggs's

1. Thank you...!
2. Federal law
3. Actually caught that before reading your post; corrected but I think its Riggs' (one "s")

You're saying that in real life, the tip is orange?

I think it depends on the style manual you're using, but OK. ;)

I'm pretty happy with the silver logos. Makes a clear statement that it is indeed Riggs' 9mm. What do you think?

I was hesitant at first...

It does look pretty good!
Funny thing is here in the UK, your one would be illegal for me to own. But it is ok for me to have a real Beretta (deactivated)

Edit: In fact it would be legal to "own" a replica
Just not legal to buy, sell or manufacture a replica unless a member of an airsoft club or similar

The orange tip on replica guns is only required for their sale; the user, even in California (which is infamously strict with both real guns and airsoft and is downright constantly looking for an excuse to ban airsoft forever), can freely remove the orange tip.

It'll be fine as long as you're not some idiot who runs around the street dressed like a crazy, racist Australian with a Beretta for fun.

Re: Beretta 92 Experts - Need help...

If memory serves JTS is correct about the gun being used in other films most notable Die Hard. Somewhere around here I have the NRA exhibit book that I believe features the gun in question. There indeed were numerous guns on hand for LW. If I visit a friend Xmas day ill see about digging out the rental paperwork for that film.

Same weapons specialist, according to IMDB. Makes sense...

Re: Baretta 92 Experts - Need help...

Hey Brandon; if you can elaborate on that I'd love to hear more stories!

Anyway, stickers yes - I buy that...

But in the suicide contemplation sequence, you can clearly see the Beretta markings under what indeed does appear to be a sticker. But no discernible smiley face. But I'm sure that in other scenes shot, there may have been different stickers used.
