Latest eFX News!

It works for me; I'm using Firefox 3.0.1, what version are you having problems with?

EDIT: Just tried it with Firefox 2.0.0.12 and it also works, maybe it's a plugin problem, do you have adobe flash player installed?

With 3.0 all I get is the left side navigation links and a bottom bar. The upper right is just black. I can click the links but unless I load the page in IE Tabs the storm trooper helmet never shows up.

Yup. All up to date too.

Just updated to 3.0.1 and still nothing without IE Tabs.

4. 2008 eFX Star Wars Product Calender:

Stormtrooper Helmet, ANH - July 8, 2008
Clone Trooper Helmet, AOTC - September 2008
Obi-Wan Kenobi Lightsaber, ANH Xtreme Edition - November 2008
Ralph McQuarrie Concept Darth Vader Helmet, ANH - December 2008
Luke Skywalker Red Five X-Wing, ANH - TBD

...ok, so that looked a bit ambitious even at the time it was posted. BUT the product released so far, especially the new Concept Vader Helmet, have been outstanding.

So what is the updated release schedule for the Obi-wan saber and X-Wing helmet?

Wow. I thought this thread was about NEW news. How time flies! I was giving them the benefit of the doubt thinking they launched the company in July of 2009. So the Vader Concept was over a year past due? And the Obi ANH Xtreme (What, are you paying by the "E"?) is a complete no show.

How many liceneses do they hold now? Maybe they should have concetrated on getting one line right before picking up any others. Or maybe just announce one project at a time. Like I said before, it's too much, too soon.

To paraphrase Dirty Harry, "a company's got to know it's limitations".

If they are indeed a "small company", perhaps they should keep their ambitions as small. Otherwise, things will only look bad, regardless of their intentions.

Wow, it seems someone is not happy with eFX. So far, they have released everything they said they would, and more, except for the Extreme Sabers, which I'm really looking forward too. I for one am willing to give them the benifit of the doubt.

I agree. Better take your time producing quality products than rush out something sub-standard. Its the same with the Aliens Pulse Rifle from HC - I'd rather wait a little longer and get something thats the best it can be.

Lets not also forget the credit crunch, I'm sure its hit eFX's plans like everyone else here.

Cheers

Still, it's getting a little silly how long it takes them to introduce new product...

Yeah. You know what they say: "Often the mere appearance of impropriety is far more damning that impropriety itself."

While their intentions may not be bad, it doesn't look good. Perhaps part of "taking the time to do things right" should include NOT announcing a product a year in advance of it's availability.

Take a poll of what customers want to see produced to determine the viability of any one product. Then on the "eve of production", announce the product. Don't show a prototype and announce a date for availability until you know you can meet that deadline. Not think you can. KNOW you can.

Why can't it be both? Meet your standards of quality and your self-set deadline. Nobody forced them to set the availability date. Why not announce the sale date when you know it's ready to go to market, or at least it's ready to be produced?

Anything else only gives the impression of unprofessionalism and the possibility you have no idea what you're doing.

I agree, it's frustrating to anticipate a product that you really want, but which doesn't get released promptly.

I'm really looking forward to their Classic BSG Viper Pilot Helmet, as well as their X-Wing Pilot Helmet. When they first announced their X-Wing helmet, I emailed to ask when it would be released and they told me it would be available for pre-order by xmas. When I went to their booth at Comic-Con, the prototype they had on display was still a solid chunk of vaguely-helmet-shaped plastic, so it became pretty clear to me that their earlier estimate was a bit overly optimistic.

Still, in the end, I'd prefer to be informed early on that they are planning on releasing a product. I would hate to spend a few hundred on an unlicensed, fan-made product, only to find out that eFX were coming out with theirs soon afterward. I'm not saying that a licensed product would automatically be superior, but I'd at least like to be able to make an informed comparison. And the truth is, it does make a difference to me if a product is licensed.

The long wait between announcement and eventual product release bothers me for another reason, too: I worry that a product I've been anticipating will be cancelled, or that the company will lose its license or go out of business. The year Master Replicas lost the Lucasfilm license, I had heard that they were going to make an X-Wing helmet. We know how that turned out. Small companies go out of business. There is no bailout for prop makers. So as the months drag by in this crappy economy, I get more and more worried about companies staying in business. Especially when they don't update us about their development progress.

These things take time to develop.

If they Dont offer any news of upcoming products, many of you would criticize them for "poor communication".

If they had a team of hundred working on production to get it out within weeks, you would complain the product would be "too expensive"

If you dont like the stuff, dont buy it. If you have an opinion, sure,...express it.
What I have a propblem with is folks contradicting themselves with what should be possible.

EFX is a handful of folks working to keep overhead LOW, while offering QUALITY items, AND actually delvering, and yet, some of you, somehow find ways to complain?

You GOt to be kidding? You can't have your cake AND eat it too.

Im starting to wonder if the FEW SCREEN names I see here who are the most negative are really former bitter ICONS people.

Makes ya go "HMMMMM"

I have been impressed with everything they have put out so far, and the CONCEPT VADER looks amazing.
I cant wait!

If you feel you can start a licensed prop company, and do a better job, well...
GO FOR IT. I'd like to see what some of you can do, besides flap your lips (keys).

I don't see anyone complaining about updates or lack of updates, i see people complaining about self imposed release dates not being met.

Two completely different things.

^^^Exactyly^^^

It's one thing to hold to your own high standards or be a mega perfectionist making sure you flat out nail something. Obviously that takes time, and no one will begrudge that.

Saying you'll have these 5 things out in the next 6 months, and having just the second one show up about 18 months later with 3 still 'TBA' is not a good thing no matter how you look at. It's pretty bad actually. If you're having issues with the supply side or the design side or the licensing side, you should be communicating a delay and that you're sorry for it - you don't have to state the reason, but you do need to acknowledge the delay, especially when it's over a year.

Same here!

Last time I talked with Brian the prototype was in.

From my short conversation with him I have full confidance that when it IS released it will be awesome!!

I'm interested in the eventual release of TOS BSG viper pilot helmets... :thumbsup

I think some people are not going to be satisfied until they are out of business, just so they can say "I told you so".

Yeah, I'd rather then take their time and do it right than to rush and botch the job. I'd rather get one or two items per year than them flood the market and have excess stock going to waste and then lowering production the next time around. I think they are doing an excellent job and it is becoming well worth the wait considering the product we are getting.

Dave :)
