labyrinth ludo, looking for referance pics

So for a project next year i'm planning on doing a ludo bust, as close to lifesize as i can get it, i am after any referance shots, did a search but theres not much there.
I'm right in thinking this movie didn't get a making of book, just the storybook?

Never seen a making-of book. I have "No Strings Attached - The Inside Story of Jim Henson's Creature Shop" which has loads of great pics, and covers "Labyrinth", but sadly there's nothing of Ludo outside of shots from the movie (nothing you couldn't find online). I seem to recall that the Collector's Edition DVD of "Labyrinth" has some good material on Ludo though.

I've always wanted to see someone tackle a 1:1 Ludo and have yet to see it done. Good luck to you! :thumbsup

I believe both the DVD and Blu-Ray has some fantastic in-depth documentaries - one showing the complete fabrication of Ludo and should have several close-up shots of the animatronic head rig. If I had capturing capabilities I could have checked it out and grabbed you some. Hope someone else can do that.

These are some I've found through Google search:

Yeah it'll be huge, last big sculpt i did was this guy, freddy snake i just wanted one for myself, i didn't go lifesize with this, but it was still a big project, sculpted in clay then a latex and polyfoam bust

So the plan is to do the same with this, latex and polyfoam, teeth, eyes and hair
Thanks for those pics, very helpfull, i'll be checking the blu ray out, but can't get screen grabs of the making of,

This will be a biggie. You wont have to focus too much on texture besides his face since he is a hairy lug. Would be cool if you can cast the face separate and maybe offer castings off that for a wall mount.

i've heard rumours that the prop was due to go on show recently for a photo op at one of the showmasters cons, but it was damaged on route, its being fixed up, this is second hand info, can't imagine he's looking in good shape after all these years

They should be informed about Tom Spina and his wonderful team of preservationists.

Here's a couple of shots I took of Ludo without any hair (or droopy ears) from the "Making of" on the 2nd disc of the Labyrinth Anniversary Edition DVD. May help with the shape/form a bit.

Looks a lot like Slimer here!

Photobucket has shrunk 'em, so if you would like the larger pics, PM me your email.

Those are very usefull, i noticed that the rear of the head was fabricated, thanks for the pics, i have enough now to get it started, just need the time now

This is what I love most about you Frosty, you do stuff no one else does and it's always amazing. This movie was my favorite growing up as a kid, even now it still stands the test of time. I can not wait to see how your Ludo turns out, I know you will do it justice.
