If this and the cherub happens, I'm going to be flat broke. Just sayin'.

This is Russell mulcahy response to the small piece of cloth that was placed in the kurgan sword box....

Daryl,
No I don't have the cloth and actually don't remember there being one…but I don't think It had anything special about it…and I'm not sure if anyone would care….from memory it was simple..maybe 'felt'…..Alan Cameron was the production designer…I would just try to mimic what you see on screen…

cheers,

Russell

Re: Kurgan sword case, from the film..

we have to have an exact color match for that peice of cloth. it has to be spun from the same fiber as the original!

Re: Kurgan sword case, from the film..

For those obsessed with the cloth, here ya go (all pics are "clicky")...

... and just for kicks, here's the side of the bottom half of the blade we have not seen yet... in this thread...

Re: Kurgan sword case, from the film..

Well to be honest, I wouldn't mind seeing a pic of that side of the lower blade that's better lit, has better focus and is from a better angle, like your previous pics. It would look a lot nicer than the blu-ray screen caps (hint hint). :)

Honestly. From my very early research on the sword props and replicas from the films I think the real reason the producers don't want to do screen accurate replicas of the swords is because they legally can't. I don't think they actually own the rights to these props to be reproduced. From what I can tell I think they may own the rights to the HL2 but have never reproduced it accurately either. Of course there are several things about that sword that aren't necessarily attractive as well. I think this plays into the reason that the design of the Ramirez sword was changed from film to film as well. The first three swords were quite different but still made to look like the same sword on film with only die hard fans noticing the difference.

And don't ask where I get this info from because the details have been lost to time and my ever failing memory.

Peter davis owns the rights to the H2, kurgan box and dark magic... Hence why I am allowed to reproduce them. But your right, I have seen, held, and cast each if these and there not what I would call perfect finished articles. But beautiful none the less.

That cloth above in the pics, looks like a chamois cloth that you use to wash and dry your car with...

Does anyone see what I'm seeing?

Re: Kurgan sword case, from the film..

Thank you for showing the details of the 'mechanisms'. I've always used the 'suspension of reality' to justify how the parts would lock together, but it's nice to see the actual forethought of each attachment. It demonstrates the idea that they were going for a real world function with an old world set of skill sets. I don't know if I'm making any sense, but I'm glad of the pictures.

You make perfect sense, instead of a crap prop thrown together and made to look cool, they actually made a classic work of art that worked and is cool at the same time.
