@irishamericanlad:
Thank you very much for sharing this awesome pics. For me,this sword is the coolest next to the Conan-sword Atlantean, that Schwarzenegger uses in his 2 Conanmovies.I would be very happy,to own a good made replica of the kurganversion, that you can snap together.I never bought the Marto-version,because its only a solid sword.

i dont understand your post.. are you saying this isnt the original screen used piece and im lying? cause this is the original one used by clancy brown in the film... theres nothing missing from it except the piece of cloth that covers it....

Re: Kurgan sword case, from the film..

Sweet... I wouldn't even trust WITH set screws though... still not enough, lol

Re: Kurgan sword case, from the film..

Don't sweat it

:lol Just another "Expert" chiming in :lol

Re: Kurgan sword case, from the film..

Chris, You'd be surprised by how much just one 8-32 set screw using pressure will hold something metal together. I was skeptical as well until I did it myself and tried to seperate the pieces (no tools, just my bare hands). I was unsuccessful. Still, fast swinging of a sword with a two piece blade could be a bit scary and is not something I myself would do. I would only try slow swings with something like that.

Irish, awesome pics. Thanks for sharing them. I can't wait to see your replicas of the sword and case.

Re: Kurgan sword case, from the film..

sorry if my post read rude it was not my intent. highlander is a top 10 film for me and im in a hospital room with my son dealing with his cancer. and yes i was referring to the cloth that clancy pulls down to reveal the sword. it seems to have artwork/writing or whatever. it would be nice to see it! that would make it the uber kurgen sword case replica! i believe you have the real deal screen used sword i was just hoping it was all there for this project!

Oh I know, I am a mechanical engineer and have to design bolted jointed all the time... but small screws in a very thin piece of metal, that can have huge moments on it due to the length blade = i wouldn't trust it :)

Re: Kurgan sword case, from the film..

@ chris and ARKM..... well guys you are the leaders of that field lol so what do you think i can do, to minimize change in the blade but allow for 2 blades to be put together.. now i can tell people not to swing a sword till ***** comes back but we all know their going to lol...

@ funboy
i know the cloth is missing and from what russel said it was just a strip of cloth that was thrown into the box for the effect of the pulling off but ill call him to see where it is or if he even has it...

Re: Kurgan sword case, from the film..

Well, I certainly would not consider myself a leader in the field (or even remotely close) but thank you.

I am not an engineer so Chris might be a better choice here. My method will still use set screws. They would not be in the fuller though as there is too little material for the screw threads to bite into. Instead, they would be a little further away from center and would be on the beveled part of the blade. They would still go in at a 90 degree angle though so when tight, you would have an angled depression/hole where the screws are as only one "side" of the screw would be flush with the blade. That's the major downside to my idea as that does not look good cosmetically.

Anywho, the screws would only go through one side of the bottom blade (both on the same side) and would not go through the tang on the top blade but would instead use pressure to hold it in. This pins the entire surface area of one side of the top blade tang to one side of the bottom blade slot which allows for the most friction when trying to seperate the pieces while the screws are pinned in place. To prevent it from seperating at all when put together, you would need a third screw somewhere that went through at least one side of the bottom blade and all the way through the tang on the top blade. In that situation, you are not trying to pin the pieces together tightly (that's what the other two screws are for) but instead are just trying to keep the pieces together should the other two screws fail in some way. As such, the hole through the top blade tang does not need to be threaded (nor should it be as it will cause problems with how the other two screws work), only the hole in the bottom blade needs to be threaded.

If the set screws HAVE to be in the fuller, you may need to resort to 4-40 screws just so that there's more threads biting into the metal. However, since it's steel, not aluminum (I work mostly with aluminum), maybe there's enough there for a 6-32 or an 8-32 set screw to hold well. I just don't know.

Anywho, that's my idea... for what it's worth.

Re: Kurgan sword case, from the film..

Now I don't post often , but wow!

I'm a super big fan of the film and met Christopher Lambert a few weeks ago at a convention (super nice guy!).

So often you hear great props such as this just disappear or worse get thrown away. Its great to see all the detail that was put into the sword.

Its a shame the replica's wont be 100% screen accurate, do you know why that is the case?

But big thanks for sharing!

Re: Kurgan sword case, from the film..

they want to keep the integrity of the original case and keep it special... but that is only for the licensed copy, i have the rights to sell special sales as non official replicas.. let me get this one replicated and then we can talk about one for one replicas :)

@ ARKM, i like the ideas... ill have to cut the metal and put in the set screws and test them with a couple hand made tests lol

Re: Kurgan sword case, from the film..

I think if you offer exact replicas to only the RPF, it would stay off the radar. Something special for us dihard collectors!:cool:thumbsup

Re: Kurgan sword case, from the film..

relick i get the feeling you are pretty interested in an EXACT replica... just a feeling haha

Re: Kurgan sword case, from the film..

I'm pretty sure there are more than a few people here that are interested in an EXACT replica. Call it a hunch.

Re: Kurgan sword case, from the film..

i believe it lol but i hope people understand this is a pretty detailed prop that wont be cheaply made and by that token.. wont be cheap lol

Re: Kurgan sword case, from the film..

This thread is awesome. Can't wait to see the finished product. Can't wait to possibly by screen accurate product. Very interested.
