Key to Hamunaptra

Re: Key to Hamunaptra (Status Update)

Well I was one of those interested parties here so does that mean I am on this maybe list....maybe? lol

Re: Key to Hamunaptra (Status Update)

The biggest delay has been my own perfectionism. I will complete a part and after only a day or two I will sit down to work on something else and decide "I can do better." Anyone else do that?

I know all too well what you mean. That's why afte all these years, I'm not better known on the boards. I almost never finish my props to my liking, and the few that I have got to a point that I just can't stand to work on them any more, and I have to call them "good enough" (a fraise I personally hate to say.) I just don't feel they are worth showing off. In fact, my perfectionism has ruined more then a few of my projects. ("A little more....... a little more...... a little more.....way to much. " :( )

Anyway's, I just found out about this thread recently so I don't know if I'm in time, to be considered as one of the possible buys for a future run, but I am certainly interested. :) This has always been on my list of wanted props, but I've been waiting for someone to do a run, of them that "do it all". :)

Re: Key to Hamunaptra (Status Update)

I am still planning a short run of completed Keys--someday--, but I have decided that kits are just not practical. Apart from opening myself up to recasters, assembly is just enough of a !@#$% that I don't want to be responsible for anyone else's migraines.

Dang. Your call, of course, but a bit disappointing. Can I make a couple of observations? Firstly, selling a complete key won't make you immune from recasters. They'll just tear the piece down and slap rubber on it anyway. Secondly, if you were selling a limited run here on the RPF only, it'd be reasonable to expect people to take your assembly advice on board - plenty of experienced builders here. Do all the parts in resin to avoid the finicky jobs, maybe?

Just my 2c.

Good points. I need to see how everything fits together. I might even be over looking some parts that I can get away with casting rather than having you assemble them from laser cut styrene. If I can offer kits with the proviso that I'll be here (the RPF) to help, we'll see. Y'all are pretty bright. About the recasters, disassembling the key will destroy it. It isn't a design feature, it's just the end result of assembly. The glue joints have to be solid in order for it to function. I doubt they can be separated without destroying it. Besides, if I'm selling them here, I imagine it will be safe for a while.

Re: Key to Hamunaptra (Status Update)

Ditto. I bought two kits in my life and never got to either one. I'm terrible, which is why I'll always get a finished piece.

Re: Key to Hamunaptra (Status Update)

Yeah I have more unfished kits than I'd like to admit. Having the option for a completed one would be nice. While I'm trying to get more into building being able to get a finished product is very appealing. If you do offer these please let me know. My youngest son absolutely loves the Mummy movies and this would be a great addition to his collection.

Re: Key to Hamunaptra (Status Update)

So, what do you think? Will this become available? I know this is out there, but if it does become available, when would you guess that to be? The book of the dead and this key would be my only Mummy props.

Re: Key to Hamunaptra (Status Update)

The masters are complete and mounted. I just need to give them a silicone bath (read $$ for silicone). The first 9 pulls are spoken for, RPF'ers, but afterward...? My goal is to be able to open a thread in the Junkyard in mid January. The only catch is the springs, but I can tell you what dimensions are needed and where I've been getting mine. I'd make them myself but these !@#$%^&* are tiny.

Cheers,

JM

Re: Key to Hamunaptra (Status Update)

am i one of the 9?

cheers!

Re: Key to Hamunaptra (Status Update)

If you start a JY thread, would you mind mentioning it in this thread so I notice it? :)

Re: Key to Hamunaptra (Status Update)

Mid January ... Great news. I'll start stashing money away from the wife ... I mean saving now :lol

Re: Key to Hamunaptra (Status Update)

Well, if I'm not one of the 9, then please keep me in mind if one of the 9 fall through, and if that doesn't happen then keep me in mind for the JK run in January. In other words I WANT ONE! :) (as long as I can afford it. )

Re: Key to Hamunaptra (Status Update)

I was on the interest list for the first run also do you have me down jaded?

Re: Key to Hamunaptra (Status Update)

Ok, apparently I completely underestimated the interest on this little project. :eek

So, if you had already PM'd me since the beginning, you are most likely one of the 9. If you PM'd me for the first time in the last few weeks, you may not be. Don't worry though. The second run aught to be ready only 2 to 3 weeks afterward. Making the masters and the molds was the hard part, I've had a lot of practice at assembly.

Thanks guys, I'll keep you posted.

JM

Re: Key to Hamunaptra (Status Update)

I'm not sure if I ever PM'd you originally but I did express interest in this thread back in February. Can you post the list of the original 9?
