Key to Hamunaptra

@Pitbull, no idea on cost as yet. It will depend on the number of forum members interested, the costs for laser cut parts, as well as resin for the cast pieces, and if I can find a new supplier for the springs.

Actually, Pitbull's question brings up something that has been on my mind. The hinges are not complicated to make, it just gets tedious around the 4th one. Those of you who are interested, would you expect all pieces cut to size, and drilled for you or would you find it acceptable to be supplied the appropriate diameters of brass and styrene tubes and cut/drill the hinges yourselves? :ninja The instructions will be straight from my development notes, and should be pretty clear. I will give the correct lengths and half the cuts are 90° and the other half are 67.5°. I could probably even bodge together a template for cutting & drilling.
Obviously, less work from me means cheaper kits for you. Any thoughts?

If I haven't burned myself out on this completly, I am also considering making two finished keys. I had planned to put them up on eBay, but RPF will get first dibs. Those will be a bit more expensive.

Cheers,

JM

havent posted here in years
but i would be all over this in kit form
the light box....? modelmaster? i used tomake those but transfered to the cnc mill shop.

Perhaps you could offer 2 types of kit, 1 for more experienced builders and 1 for complete idiots like me who can't drill or cut to save their lives ?

This is just a test. I wasn't happy with the cast, but I've not used Rub 'n' Buff before. Plus, I was anxious to see how it would look. So, black primer and antique gold R'n'B.

Compare to a screen cap from the first movie.

(edit: I just noticed one small, albeit annoying, dicrepancy. I was given scans of what is said to be a stunt prop. The bottom glyph on the stunt prop and Hero key are oriented differently. Look at the bottom of the center cartouche. Changing it now would mean buying more silicone and a new solar plate. )

nice replica bottom plate for the key. The details area really there. Any chance of rotating it so the angle is right?

Having no talent and having lost money on kits because I screwed them up beyond repair.... I'd pay extra for a finished one.

bump any news

Sure,

I was sick during the better part of the last two weeks, which slowed me down. These pics don't reflect the current state of the project,

I have the blackbase coat on but noticed some surface defects I want to fix. I am also working on reducing the number of parts for the kit. As it stands you would have between 60 and 100 parts. I think I'm on the right track, I might be able to cut that in half. Including one of the most intricate molds I'll have ever poured.

I should be able to to post new pics by the end of the week.

Thanks

It isn't complete strictly speaking. I need to touch up between the hinges where you can still see bright white styrene. Also, the two halves are not glued together yet as I still need to disassemble this one in order to make a master for kitting it out.

Perhaps not perfect, but it is the culmination of a lot of time spent.

I have already had an offer for a completed copy, and have committed myself to kitting it out. I will update with details when I have them.

Cheers!

JM
