Re: Key to Hamunaptra (Status Update)
Ok, so this will be made of styrene, so it's obviously going to be pretty light weight. Any way to add any heft to it without harming it? The finished ones will be not only completely put together, but painted and aged as well?
On a side note... Do most of the books of the dead that are out there have the same lock casting on the front? In other words (and I know you can't speak in absolutes) would this key "probably" fit the lock on a book of the dead, if I opted to display it that way?
The keys, kits and completed, will be resin. The weight feels appropriate for a brass artifact to me, but I can think of a couple of places were weight can be added. This isn't something that can be done to the current run, but I might be inclined to consider it on a second run and a run of kits. I make no promises though, I am also still trying to reduce the piece count for kits and assembling and finishing the first run of keys.
[edit: A resin/styrene prototype weighs 141 grams]
The completed keys will be assembled, painted and have a patina, yes.
One of the early prototypes was sold to a collector who also has the books of Amun-Ra and the Dead. According to him it is a close fit, closer than the fixed keys that are currently in circulation. The pattern of the interlocking leaves was taken from high-res screen caps, and scans of Wakal's stunt key supplied by division6. Presumably, if the book's pattern is also correct it could work.
I can't speak from personal observation, but apparently my key is just a little bit bigger than those in circulation.
I have the junkyard post prepared, I am just giving it until late this afternoon before posting as I am waiting for responses from folks who would be part of the first run if they are still interested.
Cheers,
JM
