JURASSIC WORLD Owen Grady Costume

Since Owen's costume isn't really iconic, is anyone planning on supplementing the costume with something to make it more recognizable as Jurassic World? Like following raptors hahaha

Yes! I am probably going to make a Jurassic World ID badge (based on the designs of those worn by others in the film), even though Owen never is seen with one in the film.

I also am going to take one (or more, if I can find/afford them!) of the old Kenner raptor hatchlings:

And give it a Jurassic World-specific paint job (Blue is obviously the one I'd attempt first). Then I plan to sink a magnet into the base of the baby raptor and sew a corresponding magnet inside the shoulder of my vest, so that the baby can sit steady on my shoulder when I need my hands free but can be easily popped loose for others to hold or for me to hold/pose with.

This whole idea was inspired by this modified fanart:

If I was more gifted at sculpting, I'd make all four raptor babies in various "clingy" poses so that I could position them all over my body, as in that photo. But I am very much a novice in that department.

Thats an awesome idea!

My girlfriend is going to carry the triceratops Lost World egg with her, so same concept!

Man, so many good finds in the last day! Crazy good find on the Orvis shirt and belt. Nice work guys. Based on what the costume designer told me, I'm guessing they used that shirt as an exact prototype and just made them custom from there to get the color and fit they wanted. But that grey is pretty damn close. Can't wait to get mine!

I've mentioned this before but for the pants, Old Navy (aka the poor man's Gap) has those same style pants in a SA dark grey color and canvas material in a slim fit. They fit really nicely and those are the ones I went with. But you might want to hurry because they are on clearance as of this moment.

For those of you wanting to add something telling to your cosplay I'd suggest a simple badge, my buddy over at Jurassic June has a really nice Grady badge for $7. He also just put up a Lowery badge after making the prototype for me. It's SA based on the other badges we see control room characters like Vivian wearing.

I finally tracked down a pair of fake glasses with the two dots on the temples that are a closer SA match to Lowery's. You can get them here on Amazon for $8.18 + free shipping!

From where did you order the knock-off? Could you post a picture of it?

Here you go! Pictures on Amazon do it justice. It's pretty close to the G-Shock in style if you don't want to drop the $80+ (which I don't want to do until we get a positive ID on which model Grady wears). A nice alt for sure, right down to the double clasp/holes on the band. Liked it so much in fact that I ordered the military green one as well!

Maybe a Norton bike?

Triumph! Not Norton. It's a Triumph Scrambler. The one in the film was custom made and painted a custom color for the production (though they are readily available at any Triumph dealership and only about $10,000 base). They gifted it to Pratt the day of the premiere.

The more and more I've seen the film, the more I've honed in on Grady's boots considering they're the hardest to ID. Obviously, based on augofett's compiled list (thanks for that!) we've collectively done a pretty good job tracking most of this stuff down. But the boots continue to be elusive.

There are so many styles of boots similar to his that without some kind of definite positive ID'ing from the production we'll likely never know. I've tried to reach back out to the costume designer but he's hit or miss when it comes to responding. He only described them as "rough out boots" which is just a general term for a few different styles of boots and not necessarily any that look like Grady's.

All that said, in certain pictures and from certain angles, Grady's kind of have the vibe of a classic Justin Roper with a toe that's a little more pointy than the classic round Chelsea toe. Normally cowboy boots have a flat sole but they do make some workboot styles of Ropers with the type of sole we've seen on Grady's boots. I know they are not and it's agreed upon that they are more of a Chelsea pull on style, as seen by the elastic on the side which is a telling detail. But I've tried to expand my search to other types of boots just in case.

Any more thoughts?

The triceratops is preposterously cute. I want one just to put on my desk.

I had a JP3 one MIB that I sold on ebay this week for $50! My open one went with my Jurassic Park display I put together this week, and the raptor one is currently sitting on my TV stand. The T-Rex one is in storage, and I probably should have sold it as well. LOL.

Honestly, I'm convinced they used the Orvis shirt, replaced the buttons, and tailored it. There's no reason they used it as a template as they claim to have done. I thought maybe they removed the back panel part, but you can see it sticking out when he goes to stop the raptors. I'm almost certain all they did was just modify the existing stock shirt.

And those Old Navy pants are really nice by the way! Unfortunately neither of my local stores stock 32X32's, so I might have to settle for 31X30's, and hope I don't get any bigger while exercising.

^ Seconded. The thing I keep coming back to is that if the wardrobe department did want to replicate the Orvis shirt, why go through all that trouble AND still use the orange accent stitching? (essentially - why would they make an exact copy with the exception of the buttons when the buttons are the easiest thing to change?) It just doesn't make any sense.

On the topic of the pants, everyone keeps saying grey, but they sure look brown to me. Anyone else?

Also, anyone found the grey Orvis shirt in a small?

They do look brown at times but I think they're definitely grey. I think when they look brown, it may have been as a result of one or more of: lighting at the time, photo processing, on-set wear (he does spend a lot of the movie outdoors in the jungle or in fairly dirty environments; he does spend time sliding/laying on the ground -- plus, in some of the behind the scenes videos, Pratt says he wiped out on his motorcycle and got mud all over his pants -- stuff like that may have happened by accident early in production but then stayed in for continuity, etc.) or intentional weathering by the costume people (i.e., they rubbed/threw Fuller's Earth or Hawaiian reddish dirt on the pants).

Exactly, they would be going through way too much trouble when they could use the off the rack shirt just as fine with some slight modifications.

As for finding a small, I'm afraid that may have been the size I need as well. I got a medium in hopes that it will fit good enough without alteration. My Columbia shirt is a medium, and it's a tad bit too big for me. Hopefully these Orvis shirts fit more like a regular shirt...

Yeah, I just don't know what to believe anymore. haha

The Orvis Open-Air is obviously the shirt...it's exact in detail. Though I'm learning more and more that a lot of the costume pieces for films that you'd assume would be off the rack are in fact custom made - even if they are a version of something off the rack that they replicated and duplicated for the film. Perhaps they had Orvis custom make them for the film which is why they are so close in detail?

I'll repost what to costume designer told me for reference.

"We made Chris Pratt's shirts as we needed so many multiples but it was indeed based on a tropical outdoorsman shirt from REI or some company like that. We looked at so many inspiration shirts, I can't remember which. It was also overdyed to give it a more organic earthy rugged look."

I don't think he'd lie. He really has no reason to. I'm sure there is some explanation behind it. Either way, I'm glad we found THE shirt!

If you don't want to drop $300 on a scope, this is a great alt. Spot on color, shape and size. You can easily replace the rail mounts.

Maybe the details are just a bit fuzzy for him? I don't think he would lie about it either, but maybe he has just mis-remembered the case for the Owen shirt.

Also, just got off the phone with Jafrum. I sent my large vest in for a size exchange last week, but for some reason my account details do not work on the site. The lady said my exchange had processed yesterday, as I expected, because I saw a large come into stock, and today the small is gone. So I can't wait to get it in the next few days, as well as the shirt! I guess I will hit up Old Navy again to see what I can find.

If anyone spots a 32X32 in the ON pants let me know! LOL

But didn't Lowery not have a badge? I rewatched to try and see what his looked like and could not see one anywhere. Which for me brought up an interesting subject around Lowery regarding him and his position/place at the park. We don't know how long he has worked there in the 8-10 years it has been open. But even if it has been since day one, why is it he gets to go around without a badge and nobody cares - especially the security officer that Hoskins immediately shows his InGen badge to when he enters and who also makes a fuss when Owen enters without a badge (and if he has one wouldn't it be an InGen badge as well?). Mr. Masrani comes in without a badge but I believe for him it is self-explanatory why he doesn't need one. Plus Lowery is the one who stays behind and has all access to the park, i.e. he knows all passwords to open the animal paddocks.
