Jonah Hex Leila

I'm going to have to give this one three thumbs up! (Wait, I only have two hands..)

Love the costume, love the look. You pulled it off very well. Cheers!

Nice execution, despite the source. It looks fantastic, tough to get the Megan Fox expression right when you have half a brain. Course a costume like that could have that effect on those looking at it.

Let's see, how to compliment without sounding like a perv? :love

You've done an excellent job, and the costume looks great, as does the person wearing it.

The corset is by Meshcantes corsetry: Meschantes Corsetry
A friend of mine helped me make the skirt since I know nothing about patterning and she's excellent with that stuff, and I made the top. The top isn't accurate with the zipper, and all the trim is kind of played by ear (and I meant to make another line with the maroon trim on the skirt but I used all of it from the local fabric store haha). But it was still lots of fun. :)

It came out beautifully! Good job!

I'm surprised the corset is from meschantes, have you purchased from them before? I bought one from them and it did not last at all, not to mention did not even really fit right. They only use steel boning in the front busk and the CB, that's it! The other bones are plastic :thumbsdown For the price, I can't believe it. Versatile Fashions is much better in quality. Meschantes was the reason why I learned to do corsetry myself. Ok rant over.

Really?? When did you order from them? I had a fantastic experience with them. My friend Helen suggested them to me since she's used some of their corsets in her costumes before and they always looked splendid on her so I gave them a shot. They were fast, got me a sale price, and the construction and quality was fabulous. All steel boning, they reduced the bulk by not using a lining (which on the one hand might sound bad, but I made sure they knew I needed a movie accurate replica for wearing, so less bulk the better), it's sturdy and well made, fits great, and has only the most minor innacuracies. I'm sorry you had a bad experience with them. :-( I must say though I was thrilled with the product I received.

Are you going to be at Dragon*Con? A friend of mine is bringing a pretty good movie version Jonah Hex costume, I'm sure he'd like to arrange some pictures with you.

I think I ordered from them 2008-ish? I can't remember exactly. Their ad said it was all steel boning, but when it came, it only had steel in the front busk and CB. The plastic boning they did use aren't even cut the right length. They all could have used at least another 5/8" in length. The seams are starting to pull apart, and I haven't worn it that many times. They asked for a lot of measurements, but it still didn't fit right. The top edge was way too small, and the bottom edge too big, so in order to have the cb edges to parallel, I have to get the top edge super tight, and you know your rib cage just doesn't have the same give as your waist and hips.

Hey Monique, the costume came out great! You look completely differant as a brunette and you pulled off the look very well. Where did you get the boots? I was looking for a pair of white ones for my GF's Alice outfit.

Haha funny enough, I used these for an Alice costume at Comic Con. Last minute my friend wasn't gonna wear her limebarb dress and luckily enough for me I had brought boots that worked lol. If you search on ebay for victorian style boots or "granny boots" you should be able to find some. If you're doing the tim burton Alice though I think she might have white spats with them.

That's a huge bummer, I'm really sorry your experience with them was unpleasant. :unsure My friend Helen had recommended them to me since she's gone to them in the past without issue, but it might have been after 2008, maybe they changed things up a little. I think she had a really nice one for her femme deadpool that fit her perfectly and was totally seamless: Cosplay.com - Fem-Deadpool - BelleChere I don't know what other costumes of hers she bought corsets from them, I'm not going to venture to guess though cause I'd run the risk of possibly misrepresenting HER work as THEIRS lol.

Despite having a great experience with them, I do however know what you mean about fitting wise as I didn't have the easiest time with it, though I probably can chalk that up to mismeasurement, or just simply not being present to get fitted properly. The top edge is supposed to fit up pretty high on me, directly under the bust, but when I wore it like that the waist ended up being a little bit too high and was a little harder to wear than when I wear it with the waist in the correct place. But with the waist in the proper position, the top is a little too low.

Worn higher:

EDIT: Ps, I have to toot my own horn here, being able to make a facal expression that vacant is a serious and difficult skill. XD

Worn Lower:

So I know what you mean about the ribcage not having the same give, so it definitely left just a little bit to be desired. (But really not much in the scheme of things because for whatever reason, I did recieve all steel boning and in all a high quality piece, so no complaints but these are the minor nitpicky musings of a costumer lol.)

And also they had zig-zagging flossing up some of the boning where it wasn't supposed to go all the way up, and the bottom flaps are a little bit too long. But otherwise I have no complaints and would HIGHLY recommend them to anyone looking to buy a corset. :)

Until you posted the picture of the corset sitting higher, I didn't think anything looked off at all, but afterwards, I really like the way it looks when it's up higher.

Either way though, you look great, and you pull the vacant expression look off well :D

acosplaylife4me --so I must have misheard my friend who was going over my corset, because upon further inspection when I broke it out for Dragoncon it does not appear to be all steel boning. Just the front and back busks. So I apologise for that mislead.

@Scruff Ken and I did meet up for photos, and they came out spectacularly!

Lilah was remarkably not that popular a costume it seems. However Comic Con is usually a terrible costume litmus as to what's "in," Dragoncon is usually better about that. I think Ken may have been the only Jonah there, and I was one of only 4 Lilahs that I am aware of, one of whom was a friend of mine who did the white outfit. And it still wasn't very recognized lol. But some people did get it, and when Ken and I posed for photos I think it made a lot more sense. All in all it was still a very fun costume!

The pics came out great! I agree though, I do like the look of the corset worn higher. I'm sure that was not very comfortable.

You know, as far as the corset boning, I didn't want to press the matter, but had a feeling they were not all steel (from my experience), but didn't want to disagree with what you said either. I find it a bit irritating that they advertise as all steel boning when in fact they are not. That's not good business. But, the corset did do it's job, and you looked great, so I guess that's all that matters. :)
