Jedifyfe's HIC build Han in Carbonite for the lay person

Is this top section SA or made up???

That looks awesome. Ya don't need a window anyway. I have never had one in a display room/office not blocked. The wall space is too valuable.

Its not screen accurate. It's a take on the Gentle Giant Statuette. I hate windows...lol

Great setup!!!! Love what you did with it!

I'm in process of building mine right now and as far as the top and bottom go, the wall where it will be sitting on will have absolutely no position for where anyone from any angle could possibly see the details, so, in a rare move, will not be creating those details. On the bottom though I will be having a mesh covering where a couple speakers will be to play sounds of the idle carbonite for effect. My ceiling is about 91 inches tall, which doesn't leave much top/bottom gap.

So you used Bondo first and then covered those textures with the wood glue to soften the details up to create that nice consistency?? I REALLY love what you did with that filler. I will be at that point in the next day or so. I bought the Stormrider black rubber pieces and hopefully with primer the rubber doesn't crack bad or anything over time.

With your acrylic black rub... was that a water mix and on a cloth you just went all over the carbonite to accent those details, or did you straight up smear black on and then rub it back off to reveal the nickel surface underneath? I love that weathering and want to achieve the same look.

I'm sure it measures out okay... but it always looked to me like the recesses would cut into the actual figure of han if he really was below the surface of the carbonite.

Thank you! I really am very happy with the way this turned out.

The sounds setup seems like a great idea. I thought about that also. Maybe someday.

What I did with the acrylic wash, was dilute it very little in Acetone/Nail Polish Remover. Painted it all over and then used a paper towel with nail polish remover on it to wipe away the black, leaving it in the recesses, cracks and pits. You have to eyeball it. I've seen so many HIC that leave too much black. It needs to be subtle but noticeable.

I'm not sure how the Stormrider rubber will hold up over time. I've also read that certain glues will pull away from the rubber. Post your build! I love seeing others work.

There was someone other than Stormrider and the current offering that is sliced in three, that offered full front pieces in one piece that could be simply placed in the box frame. It had the entire front section up to the boxes front frame.

Can anyone remember who that was???

I know Stormrider offered something similar at one point but that was not the one I am thinking of.

Thank you :)

Really nice build. The more I see of the modern builds of this piece, the more I'd like to do one and sell the Illusive concepts one I have.

Seeing that HIC in the Archives ... what have they done with the panels on the sides? Wasn't there some oscilloscope in one of them being lit?
