Jedi training remote....parts!

Well, I've gone through all three of my Bandai 1/48 Panther G's and have not found the piece I'm looking for. The #3 piece for that model looks nothing like what they show on POSW.

Wow, I'm getting in on one while it's hot. I have a couple of questions, as I've got my parts almost completely together and need to clarify two things. Just need to cast a few more parts and off I go, so I hope I can get some help!

First, the commander's cupola sits over a small piece of Scotchlite. This we know. But... I can't tell from images I've seen if the Scotchlite is attached to the opening of the hatch, or if it sits flush against the body of the sphere. Any takers?

Second, are the chrome rims backed with Scotchlite? One shot of the original makes it appear so.

Third, were the uh... 'nipples' of the hemispheres left intact? Looks like decent detail to me, so probably going to leave them.

That's about all I think. Will post images of IP if anyone's interested, but I think mine looks like everyone else's at this point.

Finally, if anyone reading this has a bit of experience with pressure casting, would you PM me so I can ask another question or two?

To be somewhat useful, this is what's going into mine:

-Two Plastruct hemispheres, of course.
-Bandai 1/48 Panther G, sdkfz 171 (have two, stripping one)
-Hasegawa 1/72 M4A3 Sherman
-Airfix 1/72 Panzer IV (this kit has the wheels with the small holes and the wheels with the posts that bevel/taper down))
-AMT 1/25 California Hauler Peterbuilt 359- this kit has the correct rims, but I can't make myself cut it up, so I'm using the chrome rims from the T-600A and going to metallize (alclad 2) the plastic rims from the same. The T-600A also provided bracket detailing that I was incredibly happy to find! Why do I mention the CA Hauler if I'm not using it? I leave it out to remind me not to screw up the other parts. :)
-Smooth-on RTV and resin. (Cupola, cupola hatch, muffler baffles, rifle port, towing brackets)

How's everyone else coming along?

EDIT: Coop, the part in question is a set of towing brackets for the tank, roughly U-shaped... one leg will have a little knob for sitting in a small recess. Anything resemble that on the kits you have?

SECOND EDIT: that's Panzer IV, not VI! Oops...

Thanks for the reply Zac! btw... aren't you dead? Ahem.

I posted some pics of mine, they can be seen here: http://f1.pg.briefcase.yahoo.com/jghinderliter
Will post more later.

Clerval, the pics I have show the scotchlite to be on the surface of the spheres. At least that is how I'm going to do mine. And yes, the rims have scotchlite behind them too.

Can you post some pics of the airfix panzer IV that you have? I would like to see what parts it has to offer.

Zac

All right... time for everybody's favorite gameshow... 'Happy or Right?'!

I was setting up the layout on the sphere to mark the location for the rims and the styrene disc around them. I got to realizing that I hit a brick wall:

Because of the few images that I have, I can't tell if the styrene disc was engineered properly or quickly (read on to see why I think not both). It would be faster to have taken a piece of styrene, marked a 7/8 hole and then eye-balled or guesstimated a nice circumference around that, cut out the disc, the center hole, split it in half and attached it to the sphere. Only... since this isn't a concentric element any longer, it now becomes an oval or ellipse.

I would have taken the time to work out a concentric disc and used that. Each would be about 54mm across, with thickness of 12mm and a roughly 7mm channel down the middle. One would look perfectly formed to the sphere, the other not, but would have been a bit faster (not much really, to be honest, but in production...)

Anyone have any good views of the rims that shows whether the rings are actually ellipses or if they're circles?

I can put up a diagram tomorrow; I drew it out but right now my ftp app isn't playing nice, and I'm going to get a bit peeved if I keep trying it tonight.

Off to sulk. I knew this was going too smoothly...

EDIT: My thank yous thank WACKYCHIMP's image hosting...!

Have you guys looked at my web page on the remote above???

Let me answer what I can below:

First, the commander's cupola sits over a small piece of Scotchlite. This we know. But... I can't tell from images I've seen if the Scotchlite is attached to the opening of the hatch, or if it sits flush against the body of the sphere. Any takers?

ITS AGAINST THE PLASTRUCT SPHERE

Second, are the chrome rims backed with Scotchlite? One shot of the original makes it appear so.

YES

Third, were the uh... 'nipples' of the hemispheres left intact? Looks like decent detail to me, so probably going to leave them.

YES...WITH 4 HOLES DRILLED AROUND THEM...

Finally, if anyone reading this has a bit of experience with pressure casting, would you PM me so I can ask another question or two?

I DO!!!!!!1

ALso...someo said they could not find the CANNON.

Remember..its the U bracket in the PANTHER MODEL.
The one on MASTER REPLICAS...is NOT ACCCURATE.
They Just remolded mine, or SCANNED IT.
It should be a U CANNON.

See here:

Hi BrundelFly,
Are you considering doing another run of the cast parts needed for this? As I mentioned above, I only have the 1/35th scale Tamiya Panther model so I guess it won't work.
Thanks.

I never did a run of these.
There wasnt enough interest.

If you are having trouble findting kits....try EBAY.

Hi Frank,
I purchased a Tamiya Panther Type G tank that was mislabeled as 1/48th scale but when it arrived it was 1/35th. Total disappointment.

that sucks.
Keep trying...they are out there.

I have the U brackets cast....send me 5 bucks and a SASE and Ill send a set.

Frank

Trying to find the scotchlite necessary... here in WI no one has even heard of the stuff at most places I go, much less have any ideas how to get some. Web searches have been pretty fruitless so far. There seems to be tapes, sheets, rolls. Are the hex patterns (there seems to be one on the tapes... others have a sparkle pattern, others seem to be less busy)and color/reflection consistent with the differing white styles? Would like to try to nail the stuff down. Any ideas?

On a side note, anyone use 'fourbucks' hosting? I am having a hell of a time getting through to them, and no luck connecting to upload to my sites.

<edited for fast typing and spelling goofs>

I don't have any idea where to find the scotchlite but I have the 680 series type. You can find pics of it in my photos from my previous post. I have lots of it and would be willing to sell enough to do the remote for say $5 shipped.

Email me if anyone wants any.

Zac

Do any of you READ the previous posts?????

Hello???

U Brackets.....If you have the MR Ball..you could ACCURIZE IT!!

Also..Scotchlite.
a B%$CH to find.

Try looking in MATERIAL SHOPS. SAFETY TAPE.

Good luck!

Yea Frank, i read the previous posts and visited your website. Emailed you too about the brackets but havent received any replies from you.

HHmmm...
It probably has my OLD email!

My apologies.

If anyone needs BRACKETS to ACCURIZE their MR remote,
OR TO Scratch build one...

email me at frankkcerney@yahoo.com All I need is a SASE and 5 bucks.

As many of you know my SCRATCH BUILT PART is INACURATE...yet IRONICALLY humorous.

Ironic cuz I agree! its Gorgeous! Its PERFECT!
Its JUST slightly inaccurate, a minor defect that quite Frankly I wish wasnt the case!

Now before some of you get your panties all twisted. Just relax. Im just offering a part and poking a friendly Jab at the "Wonders of Production".
