James Bond: Skyfall

Saw it tonight. Now that we got...
a new Q, a new Moneypenny, and a new M...
...we got to get Jaws back!;)

Great movie! Really liked it.

I'm a fan of new villains! I liked Jaws but he just wouldn't fit in the Craig era

Well if we're bringing back Jaws, we might as well also include sharks with frickin' laser beams attached to their heads.

If they do, I sure as hell hope they don't use Dalton. That guy was the worst.

No sir. Roger Moore was by FAR the worst. Followed by Brosnan.

Dalton brought a grittiness to the role that had been sorely missing for close to 20 years from the franchise. He's highly underrated.

Kinda off topic but today at work my captain asked how many times I've seen Skyfall and one of the probies jumped in and said his favorite Bond movie was Gold Member. We both shook our heads and walked away.

Jaws? No. I don't think they will go there.

If they brought a villain back, I'm betting it would be Bloefeld, but I'm not sure they will even do that.

They couldn't unless they had some really good lawyers. They no longer own the rights to SPECTRE which includes Bloefeld.

That's why I figure this criminal organization they have now is the replacement.

don't get me wrong, Skyfall is a good movie, but its not the best Bond movie, not even by a stretch.

For me, this Daniel Craig era "gritty" Bond is far too pompous for his own taste and takes himself way too seriously.

It just felt way too generic and serious for the sake of it, and a derivative of a Bourne movie and it shouldn't be that way.

What i really miss are the proper gadgets, the proper humour with Q, and the slightly over the top action and womanising.

Its what Connery and previous Bonds did best. Even Dalton (who was the original Gritty Bond) had more humour in his outings.

I just hope after the next 2 movies and for the next Bond actor, people will have got tired of this overly serious "gritty" era and demand more of the classic film Bond.

Bond is about excess, outrageous stunts and action, witty one liners and boombastic John Barry music.

The music in this Skyfall movie was pretty generic and lacked the brass and vintage sound that you associate with a Bond movie. The previous David Arnold scores weren't anything special either.

I'm not saying give us a completely over the top movie, but to tone this "gritty" stuff down and add some fun into these movies.

I don't want my Bond movie going experience to be the same as watching an HBO crime show or any other generic action movie.

Maybe all this seriousness will evaporate in a few years and we go back to getting a more vintage type of Bond movie.

I think you need to re-watch the early Connery outings. Ya, modern Bond could use a bit more humour but so far as Q banter and OTT stunts those are more halmarks of later Bond and it got really repetative quick.

I was going to say the exact same thing, but you beat me to it. :thumbsup

I wouldn't count on it. I think a LOT of people like the "new" Bond vs. the schlocky Bond. I expect *some* old elements to come in, but at least the next two (three?) movies to be along the same lines.

I think the next one will be a little lighter. We're back to familiar territory now wit Universal Exports, M, Moneypenny, and Q.

That said I don't think this was quite as gritty as people are saying. Compared to a Moore entry? Sure, but that's hardly the bar. I had a few genuine laughs in this one.
