James Bond: Skyfall

I'm waiting for it to start right now and I'm the youngest person in this theatre (27) by at least 40 years

I haven't seen it yet, so I have a few questions for those who have.

Without spoiling things overmuch...

1.) Are we continuing the Quantum storyline? As in Quantum as the villains. (a.k.a. SPECTRE Redux)

2.) Is it too quippy/gadgety, etc.? I've heard that much of it is a return to the older style of films which...I worry about. On a scale of Dr. No to Die Another Day, how quippy/gadgety are we talking here?

3.) How would you compare it to Casino Royale (the gold standard for modern Bond, in my opinion)? Is it like that and closer to the literary Bond, or are we definitely moving back towards a more cinematic Bond?

4.) How's the editing? I could not comprehend what the hell was happening in action sequences in QoS. Has this improved? I'm hoping we're back to CR style editing rather than ADHD-diagnosed-six-year-old-hopped-up-on-sugary-cereals-and-Speedy-Gonzalez-cartoons editing.

Mostly just IMHO but:

No. I see this as a break like Goldfinger was from the SPECTRE story of Dr. No & FRWL.

2.) Is it too quippy/gadgety, etc.? I've heard that much of it is a return to the older style of films which...I worry about. On a scale of Dr. No to Die Another Day, how quippy/gadgety are we talking here?

There are two "gadgets" neither is the slightest bit impressive. ;) They actually make fun of the "exploding pen". You'll be happy with that.

VERY much closer to the literary Bond. We even get to see something only ever mentioned in the novels.

They keep the camera a lot more still than in QOS. I didn't feel the "Bourne" vibe in this film at all. :thumbsup

It's a great entry. I'd say much closer to Casino Royale level although further viewings will cement that. The villain is AWESOME. Wish he had more screen time.

I saw it today, while it was a good film I missed the fighting style of Casino Royale, not a fan of the fights in this film at all. Also thought the soundtrack was a little lacking but was definitely better than Quantum of Solace.

Wanted to reply to your questions but this sums it up perfectly. :thumbsup

Bingo. Man I thought talking was bad, hacking and clearing throats through the whole flick was terrible.

I hate it when you have a theater full of old people and you can constantly hear things like "who's that guy?" "oh, so that's why they did that" and all that stuff. And it seems like they always have the stupidest conversations before the film starts, plus they always talk during the previews.

[/stereotyping]

Seriously this guy pointed out EVERY nod to the classic Bond. Also apparently she couldn't understand Silva because she kept asking what he said. Oh well, such as life.

I agree the fights felt less intense than those in CR, but the one in silouette was absolutely beautiful.

Sweet. I'm sold. :)

Awesome. One minor issue with your wrap-up above: you say that Goldfinger was a break from the SPECTRE line. My recollection is that it was a SPECTRE operation, and included a sequence where Number 7 (or whichever) was electrocuted in his chair. Or am I misremembering?

That was Thunderball, the return to the SPECTRE story. :)

Ah, you're right. Been too long since I watched these films. I gotta get back into it. If memory serves, though, didn't they reference Goldfinger as having been an operative of theirs? Like, "The recent failure of Mr. Goldfinger..." or something like that.

That reminds me...he told Moneypenny to put it all on red...but did she? 3 million EUR of bad guy money? I hope she set up a nice Swiss account for herself. :)
