James Bond: Skyfall

Isn't Adele doing the opening song? Can't wait to hear it.

I love "You Know My Name" by Chris Cornell for Casino Royal. It's right up there with "The Spy Who Loved Me" and "For Your Eyes Only" in my opinion.

I HATED the song for Quantum of Solace.

At least the interrogation went better than the Keanu Reeves interrogation from The Day the Earth Stood Still.

Keanu: I am leaving you now.
Some guy: Nooo.....

Really looking forward to this one. The lights, the style, the stillness of the camera. Refreshing.

Looks great. My friend pointed out that the DP worked on No Country for Old Men and Shawshank, and a slew of other amazing movies, so the odds of this being good are really stacking up.

I believe with all the cloak and dagger type movies coming out in the last 10 years, and being able to draw an audience, the Bond movies don't need to go to the extreme with the gadgets like they used to. It's almost like how campy the Batman movies got, then Nolan did a more gritty real world take on the series. I think Bond is going in the same direction, less camp with the gadgets, villains, secret hide outs, ect.. more real world take.

I liked Casino Royal. Bond didn't have missle launchers, lasers, amphibious stealth cars, to get the mission done. However, he did get a set of bionic gonads after the whole knotted rope incident. Quantum of Solace wasn't all bad, but the whole exploding hydrogen fueled hotel at the end seemed a bit piontless.

I think Skyfall seems pretty good so far.....at least the 1min 38 sec I've seen so far :p

I am still on the line about the current incarnation of Bond. There are things that I really like, and things that I really don't like. I do like the harsh nature and realism of the character role, but I miss the suave debonair character that Bond used to be.

The trailer certainly didn't show much or give way to a whole lot.

...I don't know, I hope it's good though.

I'm alright with turning the movies more realistic and updating the aesthetic to seem current.

But they don't need to abandon the lightheartedness entirely. Yes, I know the literary Bond was more akin to the incarnations we've seen with Craig. But most people don't know the literary Bond, they know the Connery/Moore/Brosnan Bond (no disrespect to Lazenby & Dalton, but I don't think it's controversial to say that Connery/Moore/Brosnan were more high profile). And those films had gadgets and a few gags every now and again.

Yeah sure, Die Another Day was too campy, too unrealistic. But by the same token, I think they've gone too far in the other direction.

But given that they are bringing Q back for this one, I'm optimistic that they'll bring back just a little lightheartedness here and there.
