James Bond: Skyfall

A view to a kill/Duran Duran is probably my fave but I actually really like QoS theme with Jack White/Alisha Keys

Hah, well I am not one to curl my nostrils at those who have opinions different from my own! :) I don't dislike the Jack White/Alicia Keys song, I just personally did not think the song was a good fit for a Bond film. Then again, this is coming from someone who loved Chris Cornell's theme.

I know one thing though, they'd better bring back the classic silhouettes of sexy women for the Skyfall intro.

You Only Live Twice, and Goldfinger were always my two favorites. I also really loved Tina Turner's theme for Goldeneye. And despite hating the Timothy Dalton Bond films, I always liked the theme Duran Duran did for A View to a Kill. :)

A View To A Kill was Roger Moore. I like that one too!

Just listened to the Skyfall theme. Sounds like a bit of a cliche Bond theme to me, just as the last one was, and I'm not really a fan of her vocals either (first time I've ever heard her), but it's still better than Another Way To Die, so I have no problem with it.
I think You Know My Name was the best of the more recent ones. It sounded like a Bond theme, without being too formulaic.

But the theme is fairly inconsequential to me anyway. I'm actually more interested in the soundtrack itself. The QoS soundtrack is one of my all time favourites, and the Casino Royale one wasn't bad either.

And of course, I hope the movie itself is good. Don't worry, my priorities aren't that messed up. :lol

Side note: I'm pretty sure that in the waning days of the Brosnan era, the producers had a program or a set of spinning wheels that would produce titles based on random phrases including the word "die."

"James Bond: Die Another Way Tomorrow"

"James Bond: Day to Die Away"

"James Bond: Living Just to Die"

"James Bond: Die-Cast Death Can Die" (rejected script featuring a villain who took over the Citadel Miniatures factory in an attempt to poison the spotty-faced teenagers of the world)

"James Bond: Die, Die My Darling" (production halted due to legal disputes with another British film company and Glen Danzig)

"James Bond: Carry On Dying" (this one was actually the proposed re-launch of both the Bond franchise and the Carry On franchise)

"James Bond: Who Farted?" (just kidding. That'd be ridiculous.)

Had a couple Bond-related realizations today...

One, after the initial horns in the beginning of Skyfall, you can hear some notes from Another Way to Die, which are repeated a few times through the song. Then I realized the beginning notes in Another Way to Die are the same beginning notes from You Know My Name. This may be blatantly obvious to everyone else, but didn't notice it till today while listening to the Adele song.:lol

Wow, I had noticed that too, but thought I was going crazy or something. If you're talking about those three decending notes, that is.

I agree Skyfall sounds a little Bond cliche/old fashioned, but it is the 50th anniversary this year. So that was most definitely intended.

Just have to not think about "Rolling in the Deep" and "Rumor Has It" when listening to this. I hear those two (awful) songs of hers multiple times every day at work, and it annoys me.:wacko

BTW, has anyone heard the song originally inteded for Quantum of Solace? It is pretty good. David Arnold composed it, and the legendary Shirley Bassey sang it. It's called "No good about Goodbye". Even though it wasn't used, a lot of the melody and musical cues from the song are incorporated in film's score.

Pretty much the same thing that happened with Tomorrow Never Dies. Arnold composed a song with KD Lang that was fantastic but was replaced (Though Sheryl Crow's song didn't bother me as much as AWTD. Plus Lang's song did play during the end credits)

Actually, that was pretty clever - I liked the Dr. No reference!

That was kinda cool, and I know Bond drinks a wide variety of drinks in the books. I've read that he drinks whisky more often than vodka martinis, but I just can't see Bond as a beer guy. If Bond is going to pitch a product, it would have to be some high end vokda, not Heineken!

I prefer scotch and dark ales myself.

I just checked out "No Good About Goodbye", and quite liked it. Very classic Bond (as I'd expect from one sung by Bassey), and I recognized the melodies from the soundtrack, which is something I've always liked to tie it together with the OST. I wish they'd gone with this one!

And I'm not sure how controversial this is, but I actually liked Sheryl Crow's Bond theme much more than K.D Lang's (although Lang's isn't bad either), and I'm not generally a fan of either one of them.

In the books, bourbon and branch water, yeah. And from what I've heard, "high end vodka" is a myth of marketing. High end SCOTCH on the other hand....well, you can taste the difference.

Maybe I should have said high priced vodka. Lol

I've never been big on vodka. I prefer scotch. For cocktails maybe a manhattan of an old fashioned. If I did go martini, it would be gin.
Most of the time, I just go fog a dark ale.

I think Heineken taste like dish soap.
