Ok Please tell me you see it to their something really wrong with this "iron patriot" to me looks a lot like something we've seen before

Hey!!!... the arms and the legs are from the Mark Vii

Re: Jackieisrockin's Iron Patriot (IM3) Pepakura Files!

...before i can release the files, i have encountered a problem :cry

Im not sure what happened (im actually very new to Blender, as in starting last week) but after exporting the file from Blender as an .OBJ or even a .3DS, it shows up in Pepakura like this:
jackieisrockins-im3-iron-patriot-pepakura-files-links-ervrvrerf.png-123760d1351758937

However as you can see, for some reason it is flipped round the opposite way

If anyone has any advice on how to fix these problems, the sooner you all will be able to get the files...

I've got your fix. I dont know if this has been answered or not, but here it is: I'm using Cinema4D, and this sometimes happens to me.

It's a BACKWARD FACE. To fix this WITHOUT having to re-design anything, you can simply load the model into Pep Designer Twice.

The 1st time, it will ask "Do You Want To Flip The Faces"... Say YES. Then, export the model and save it.

Load the ORIGINAL model again, (not the one you JUST saved, the ORIGINAL one), it will ask "Do You Want To Flip The Faces"... Say NO.
Export the model and save it.

Now load BOTH the saved models into your Modelling Program, and delete the faces of each model, that are the opposite of eachother.

That's the Tricky part, and I cant EXPLAIN it, I would have to SHOW you that part....

Hope it Helps.

Jackie solved the reversed faces problem a long time ago. Thanks for posting though, I had never thought of checking the normals that way. :thumbsup

just finished the helm. i had to make another one cause the first helm was just too big for me. glad the new one turned out great as i expected. it fits perfectly.

It wouldn't have worked, though. Different faces were flipped, the entire model wasn't inside out. So you still would have had the same problem, just with different areas.

I was thinking about that after I posted. I just find the flipped faces in Pepakura and then manually fix the model in Blender/Maya, etc... (thanks Jackie and Helagak for showing me this)

Re: Jackieisrockins IM3 Iron Patriot Pepakura Files! Links in first post! Handplate a

Blender has a "recalculate normals to outside" function, when you're in Edit mode. That's how I fix this problem. Select the entire object, and it's under Mesh -> Normals -> Recalculate Outside. Default hotkey is Ctrl+N.

If you use the Boolean modifier ever, it has a lot of problems when normals are inverted or set really weird like that too. I've gotten used to recalculating any time I do a boolean merge or export to OBJ.

Thank you for sharing this! I've seen the always seen this on my pulldown menu in Blender, but have always just fixed the long way because I was afraid Blender might make assumptions I didn't want. I'll try that on my other project, should save me at least an hour :)

Nah, it'll work, it's just very difficult. You have to delete the points & faces of the "Inside-Out" parts, and WELD them to the other model.

As I said, it's harder to explain it like this, mabey I could try and post a Tutorial or something.... See if I can start a thread for it, mabey...

"Cinema 4D Tutorials"... Yeah, that's the Ticket.:popcorn

I never knew this stuff existed. So cool, but I'm no tech head so I'm stuck scratch building for now. Still helps to see it broken down into parts.thanks!

Awesome work man, I've wanted to start building this for the last to weeks but can't find anywhere in Australia that sells foam for a reasonable price. Think I might start making the helmet today out of card. If anyone knows a place in Australia please tell me :D Keep up the great work jackieisrockin.

well... i got all the right measurements now..i think. i imported all the files form the upper torso to the shin and changed the scale to 385.0 and measured each parts to my body and it's perfect. have u guys tried that? or am i doing it wrong? any comments?

That is the best way to do it in my opinion. Glad you figured it out :thumbsup
