Jackieisrockin's IM3 Iron Patriot Pepakura Files! V2 files coming soon!

Re: Jackieisrockins Iron Patriot (IM3) Pepakura Files! Links in first post! Forearm a

For the cannon, I'm building mine out of very thin yet rigid foamboard. It's very lightweight and quite sturdy, although I might give it a coat of resin inside too make sure it's solid enough. Probleme with 3D printing something this big is that it's going to cost you a lot, even by breaking it into pieces.
About the parts needed for the electronics, do you have a list of what therealstark had in mind ? Because 400$ seems really high, I'm no expert but appart from the accelerometer, couple of servos, power source, arduino board and a few leds, I don't see what is still needed ? The rest is mostly programmation no ? I can get all of this for 150€ easily !

Also, if you have an Ikea near you, check in the warehouse market part where all the boxes are for ribbed tubbing, it looks terrific for in between fingers :

Damm dude, that is looking sick!!

TERAGON,

Glove looks great!

The basic electronics package I've designed is closer to 200 dollars (125€) in materials to build. That includes entire cannon assembly traveling up the back and rotating out to center over the shoulder via solenoid, two servos mated to an IMU to match the helmet and cannon movements, and the microcontroller unit with switching to run the works off of a dual-pack power supply. I'm not working on cannon control locations or special effects until work out the bugs in the automation.
The entire assembly is attached to the suit via bolt and wing nut through a pilot hole in the track of the chest back, so it can be removed fairly easily (no one is sitting in a car seat with this cannon on their back, even retracted). The single bolt hole with mounting pads and an alignment plates mean the suit can be worn alone, and the cannon unit won't damage it when installed. A fiberglassed torso can support this assembly without any further mods, The inside of a foam build might need additional work.
The updated cannon pepakura will have servo and solenoid mounts built in, along with access panels to make maintenance easier. I should have the rest of my electronics by next week so they can be properly fit. The programming script will just be a lot of trial and error to get the different components to work together properly. I'll update with progress.

JACKIE, can't wait for the forearms, they look great! I need a break from other projects! :wacko

IronLeoMan and Jackie Thanks for the files!! LOOKS amazing! :D

Awesome! Thanks Stealth! Ill add that to the first post :)

Re: Jackieisrockins Iron Patriot (IM3) Pepakura Files! Links in first post! Forearm a

Y'all are doing a great job on this, and I can't wait to get started... and I love the printable arc reactor alcove... I was wondering about scaling problems, though. If the scale of the upper torso is changed, will it not change the scale of the alcove, as well? If so, then anyone who wanted to print one would need a custom-scaled rendering of it, so it would fit their particular torso, right?

This is exactly what i talked to teragon about. The reason he included the separate files and the .blend file is for everyone to scale it to their own custom upper torso and have it printed however you want (shapeways, personal, etc.) so you may all download the arc reactor file(s) and scale it to the size of your arc reactor hole and there you go! :)

Re: Jackieisrockins Iron Patriot (IM3) Pepakura Files! Links in first post! Forearm a

Sounds good laelle !
Although I think my cannon will remain stationary, I'm fine if it goes from rest position (pointed upward like in most pics) to armed position synced with the helmet movements.

About the arc, you can use Blender to scale it to your needs, just open the blender file, select the three pieces, open the property tab (key n) there you can see the dimensions already in millimeters (if not you need to set it in metric, need to check how to, can't remember) then hit "S" and adjust to your liking. Should work with any other 3D software too though.

One more thing about the gloves : these ribbed tubbing are also very flexible in addition to looking good for the job. Win win so far !

Yep I figured most people didn't want to get so in-depth with the electronics, so the first thing I put together was a solenoid-actuated cannon mount. The solenoid moves the cannon assembly up while rotating out from behind the head, also flipping the cannon to forward position. Long story short, one switch (and one solenoid) actuates the whole dealio, so you're either stowed or aimed out ready to rock. A much easier build, and CHEAP. I attached a link for the cannon movement animated:

Re: Jackieisrockins Iron Patriot (IM3) Pepakura Files! Links in first post! Forearm a

Yeah, that's what I'm talking about ! I'm getting really excited to see this in action. I'll start building the cannon as soon as I'm done with the other hand, since I don't have any foam left for the bigger suit parts anyway. Takes a few day to ship, so it will give me time to focus on the cannon and electronics, and maybe start resining/fiberglassiong the inside of my suit. Plus this ******** Paypal that takes forever to top up...
I probably should take some time to study a little bit too, I kinda have two weeks of exams starting tomorrow :lol

Re: Jackieisrockins Iron Patriot (IM3) Pepakura Files! Links in first post! Forearm a

I'm -still- waiting for better pics of the cannon base, so if you do start the cannon, I'd just build the actual cannon unit first. (that part is pretty spot-on)
Good luck with the exams!

Re: Jackieisrockins Iron Patriot (IM3) Pepakura Files! Links in first post! Forearm a

thanks. That will slow me down a bit but not much. I find building stuff with my hands relaxing, so I tend to do it often during stress inducing situations. Now off to sleep !

Now is the left arm a mirror image of the right? Also with the legs as well. Hmm GM

Yep they are mirrored but identical, same with the biceps and the leg sections.

I am a robot. Nah, I just like to knock this stuff out quickly to troubleshoot the file, otherwise you can get ten people building something that has a bug. As usual though, no bugs. A nice construction, and I worked IronLeoMan's unfold without needing to look at the render. Nice work.

found this video of a servo setup that could be used to move the cannon

Nice find, I'm using a similar configuration in my build. Different servos have to be used, and the accelerometer has an on-board gyro as well to prevent false readings (getting whacked in the head, etc.:lol ) and help with tracking while the suit is in motion. Otherwise the electronics can get confused when you are turning your head right while looking up at the ceiling while jogging forward while sidestepping a hobbit.:lol
