Jackieisrockin's IM3 Iron Patriot Pepakura Files! V2 files coming soon!

Re: Jackieisrockins Iron Patriot(IM3) Pepakura Files! Links in first post! Shoulder a

Dont make a copy in pepakura, just print out the left bicep, and then cut it out and use the side it wasnt printed on

It can get confusing if you work on the back side of the paper. To flip it in pepakura designer:
1- make sure you are already scaled properly for your part.
2- go to 2d menu and click invert pattern. The 3d picture won't change, but the 2d (left side) will flip all of your parts. You should now have a check next to invert pattern.
3- now go to 2d menu and click recalculate parts layout. On this menu change spacing of parts to 5mm, and hit OK.

This works for Pep designer. Sometimes the recalculate parts layout will still put a part over two pages, but there are ways to manually rotate/move them to fit and use less paper overall if you learn more about the program. Good luck.

Hi guys, I'm new to the forum. I apologize for the translations, but I use "Google Translate". Also I am trying to build iron patriot, but I'll paper and fiberglass. the measures I have arranged, and recalculating the layout I saved 2-3 pages per piece. For hands and feet I saw that you can use the pieces to Mark VII. any of you have the pep available?
thanks in advance for your answers.

Happy new year everybody !
I was about to cut the hip plates but then it it me by looking at the latest pic I posted : wont these hip plates interfere with the leg movements ? I mean look at them : they are against the thigh and the cod piece, litteraly touching them. Wouldn't be a problem if they were round but given their squarish shape, it's going to get stuck...

Good point, i see what you mean....maybe the plate can be attached to the COD with a strap or buckle and then also attached to the thigh. that way it could move as one big piece, but then again that might also be too stiff.

The hip plates do fit right into the lower torso section, but they do need to be loose for range of movement. I'm using two ABS hobby hinges on the top edge of each plate so they will pivot out for sitting but fit back into their openings when standing.

Hey guy's happy new year your all building some impressive IP's keep up th' great job. :p

That's a damm good idea. I am totally going to use that on my suit. Thanks for idea, that is if you don't mind me stealing your idea?

PLEASE DO! The more we share our experiences, the easier everybody's builds are going to go. This is why I build out my suits completely before I fiberglass anything, so I can test fit and modify as needed.

Oh yeah, toys...

Re: Jackieisrockins Iron Patriot(IM3) Pepakura Files! Links in first post! Shoulder a

Gotta wait for the Hot Toys to come out for screen-accurate stuff methinks...

Re: Jackieisrockins Iron Patriot(IM3) Pepakura Files! Links in first post! Shoulder a

I can't really visualize how this would work ? Are those hobby hinge like regular hinge ?
By the way, isn't plasti dip supposed to be smooth ? After 4 coats my neck piece still has some texture to it despite the fact that the foam was smooth to begin with...

Here's partially open and closed:

Using or making inset hinges allow for the hip plates lets them sit flush with the body while still hinging away free. I make most of my hinges, but you can buy inset hinges like these at hardware stores too. (usually made for cabinet doors)

Re: Jackieisrockins Iron Patriot(IM3) Pepakura Files! Links in first post! Shoulder a

Alright, ok, I see what you mean now. But are you going to do to make sure the hip pops out when it needs too ? Because I don't see any force pushing it outwards, when you move your leg, it will bum the edge of the plate, not guarantying it will rotate rather than simply get stuck ?

Not sure it's as clear written down as in my head, so to illustrate :
step 1 you have this :
82028698.png

This is standing position, no movements, leg and hip are aligned.

step 2:
18500371.png

You move your leg, the thigh piece collides with the hip : it's stuck.

step 3: your solution

The hip moved out of the way, allowing the thigh to fully rotate, and will resume step 1 once back in standing position.

My question is how are you avoiding step 2 ?

You're right, that is going to be a problem if the plate doesn't have a clear path, so a bit of trial and error is going to go into it for me. The thighs push the plates out nicely when the leg is brought up, but I think foam 'bites' and catches a lot more than fiberglass when it makes contact. I think I'll run a thin felt strip on the inside edge of the hip plates to keep the paint from marring on the legs too.

Re: Jackieisrockins Iron Patriot(IM3) Pepakura Files! Links in first post! Shoulder a

yes, I forgot you were using fiberglass, it may be less of a problem then, but foam...
Maybe by making an inward diagonal cut at the bottom of the hip plate it would help, but I don't if it would be very noticeable or not...
I wonder what the guys who designed this suit did about this, or maybe they just didn't thought about it since most of the time the legs are CGI ...
Will think about it tomorrow too, but gotta find a way to fall asleep now !

Re: Jackieisrockins Iron Patriot(IM3) Pepakura Files! Links in first post! Shoulder a

I looked at this picture again, and noticed that the hip plate is actually recessed behind the COD. The guy who created this model has it rigged, so maybe he had to do it so the issue we are all having would not happen. Just a thought.
