I used a pointed scriber and a circle template (that you can buy from national bookstore or any craft store) and just draw it on the helm (adding just enough force to make a good depth) then also draw the slot inside it...:):thumbsup

Re: Ironman mkvi pep helm (aiming 99% movie accuracy) --- PAINT ON pg.18!

I have been reading around these forums for a while but never posted, so here goes! MAJOR kudos on the build my friend!! Wow...kinda wish I hadn't seen it now cos mine doesn't feel so good haha.

I jsut need to ask....how strong would you recommend I buy the magnets? I want to use the mechanical hinge system on mine too however I want the magnets to be strong enough to hold the face in place, but not too strong that they won't come apart!?

Any reply would be much appreciated :)

All the best

First off, thank you very much for appreciating our IM build :):thumbsup

As for the mechanical hinge system magnet, honestly I haven't touched that part of the build yet and I probably wont use magnets since our plan now is to install a motorized hinge system...

IMO a 8x2 (diaxH) magnet (same as the magnets I used on our helm's back piece you can see at pg.14) that you can buy from a craft store will fit your required application.

Good luck with your build and hope you can share it to the community.

cheers!

Splendid job as always Pare! So keen on details! Couple of questions though... where did you get the resin and other fiberglassing materials? I'm planning to make a pep helm but have no idea where to get the stuff. Might even give the XRobots method a go. Just looking at my options at the moment. Thanks Brader!

Re: Ironman mkvi pep helm (aiming 99% movie accuracy) --- PAINT ON pg.18!

Wow....

Im absolutely speechless!

Just a quickie, are the machine screws that are on the helm to an accurate scale?

I was just wondering if you could post up some dimensions as I'm going to machine some stainless steel ones for use with my helm when its finished

Thanks

Re: Ironman mkvi pep helm (aiming 99% movie accuracy) --- PAINT ON pg.18!

In Cabuyao, Just started buying supplies I hope I can make mine a just a bit like yours. I'll be making one soon in fiber glass, if I get the time and budget to do it. really nice!

where are you in cabuyao?

i'm starting to making a helmet now. . .resin stage. . .
and i was inspired by projectearth's helms o_o i just hope mine will be as awesome as his helms

Re: Ironman mkvi pep helm (aiming 99% movie accuracy) --- PAINT ON pg.18!

Very great observations on improving the accuracy of your helmet! I was searching the interwebs looking for the best files to start my own MKVII suit and came across this thread (because its the helm model I planned on using) and I will be emulating alot of your changes to my build. this thread was the only reason I joined this forum, im an old timer @ the 405th, but i fell out of the halo scene a looong time ago.

great job, and I look forward to seeing you jump into the suit (since im doing the same one)

Re: Ironman mkvi pep helm (aiming 99% movie accuracy) --- PAINT ON pg.18!

Nice job pre ;) I have the same pep file for the helmet so I'm really thrilled that someone aside from Sharkhead himself made a build of it (galing pa sa Pilipinas kaya mas nakaka relate pa haha :p) Just have few questions, and I hope I'm not repeating any questions posted earlier :p

1. Did you use fiberglass? From the progress pics I don't see any fiberglass cloth, but is the helmet strong enough with bondo and resin only?

2. Where did you get your resin? It's hard finding stuff like that here in the Phil.

3. How big is the assembled helmet? I'm kind of small (even for the ave. Filipino male) at only 5' 3" so will the helmet be too big, too small or sakto lang?

Thanks ;)

Even though that this question is not for me but still i wanna answer it :D

1. Yes, He add fiberglass cloth/mat on it.

I guess it will be strong enough with just the bondo and resin as long as you'll gonna apply about 4-6 coat of resin (1 coat in the outside and 4-5 coat in the inside).

2. I guess we are using the same resin, it's Polyester Resin (In the Philippines we usually call it Premix ) and for the hardener it's MEKP Hardener.

3. See Image below for the width of it.

hope i answered all your question correctly :lol

WOW!... I dont know what to say... being the only reason for you to join this community is such a great honor :$... Thank you very much
I just hope I continue to inspire people coz I am inspired by a lot of awesome members here too...:):thumbsup
I'm not sure if I can start making the suit anytime soon... but I am getting back to finish this helmet this month of July... its way long overdue...

Thanks pre... actually, the answers to your questions are already posted here in this thread if you just read the whole 19 pages of it... :lolLOL

But I will answer anyway... Oh and CDO Iron Man (below post) quite nailed the answers I just want to back it up...I guessed he read the whole 19 pages... hehe

1. I used fiberglass on the last stage of the build.
2. Again if you just read the whole thread you will see that I posted the link of fiberglass supplier on pg.19 post#466...:p
3. I'm average (5'6") and have a 22.5" head size (circumference)... the helmet fit snuggly to me and my brother's head just like how the movie helm fits RDJ's head... :):thumbsup

I strongly suggest that you read the whole 19 pages of this thread... cheers!

It's ok, I dont mind...:):thumbsup.... house in San Isidro bro...

If I may suggest, it is much easy to make a whole helmet (1 piece) than with the face plate already separated... as you may know, alignment of each piece are very crucial and you dont want each piece to warp during resining/fiberglassing.

Using double sided adhesive tape to make the helmet whole will do fine. It is also easy to separate when you are finished with the body-filling/sanding/detailing.

cheers!
