Iron Patriot/War Machine 2.0 Build - COMPLETE!

thanks for the photos.
pretty much what i expected.

i think i'd rather have some cracking then be dealing with a rigid armour, far too restrictive

No worries mate. My armour was fairly restrictive anyway lol, mostly due to my own failures though, I could barely close my hands or bend my arms at the elbows past about 45 degrees. Something I need to work on and mod before I wear it again I think.

Yeah it does a decent job, my issue was in scaling as the forearm hits the bicep and so my arm won't bend past a certain point. Also the fingers got gummed up by the paint and the tubing I used in the finger joins wasn't as flexible as I would have liked. All stuff I will look at lol.

One thing I was curious. Images of your foam appears to be multi layered (inside is green) did you use two layers of foam?

No, only one layer, but the foam camping mats that I was using are a dual density foam so half of the 10mm thickness is one density, and the other 5mm is another density. The bluey green colour is slightly softer with more give than the grey side, so I put that on the inside.

I see, thanks :D I built my Mark 4 with the "Best Step" foam. came out ok. I coated my helmet with rigid urethane and a little rondo and it came out great. I may do the same method here.

Some use a hard shell for everything. the foam is nice because when you wear it, it wont pinch ya like armor made from plastic. So I might shell the whole armor this time so that I can sculpt the fine details better and avoid the cracking and bending that you get without..

thanks for your reply :)

No worries mate, always happy to answer questions. I'm far from an expert, but anything I know I'm happy to pass on.

Hey great build, I actually saw you there, but didnt realise it was you. I chucked together a quick Sub-Zero costume (3day sewing) for the con, so many requests for photos. Didnt enter the competition though.
Was hoping to wear my Ultimate Iron Man but had no transport for the suit to get there.

Nice! I heard about an awesome Sub Zero walking around, but due to my limited time/space/field of vision I never actually saw you! Hopefully next time you'll have your suit ready :D

wow..... I have no idea how I missed this build dude.... but fantastic work!!! love it :D

Are you planning to cosplay for AVCon? A friend and I are planning to do an Anbu costume.

Yeah hopefully. Not sure what my work schedule is like yet, but I'll hopefully have the weekend off and we'll definitely be at the con in costume :) Not sure what we'll be dressed as yet, but I have a good back log of costumes to choose from and I'm currently pulling stuff together for my next one (WIP thread will start soon :D), so I MIGHT have a new one to debut. I don't know if the Patriot will make another outing. If he does it will definitely only be for a half a day and then I'll change into something else. It's not a full day costume lol.

I'm not familiar with Anbu, is that an anime? Hopefully we'll see you there! :D

Awesome build. Is the body deadener spray similar to plasti-dip?

I've never used PlastiDip, so I don't know if it gives a finish like PlastiDip, but it does a similar job with regards to coating the foam. I don't think it's the same stuff though as PlastiDip is basically rubber/plastic in a can whereas I think the body deadener is more tar based to be honest. I looked on the cans but there is no 'active ingredients' so to speak to tell me what is in it.

Um well down in Aus we only really have a handful, but we just look up the websites of the cons we know of and check dates/locations. Other than that it's often word of mouth, but I'm sure if you Googled "Pop Culture Conventions + *insert your location*" you'd probably get some hits.
