Iron Man Mark VI MaskedRider Armor Kit Pics Updated 06/25/2013!! WIP

Mike uploaded the new photos about 9 hours ago, I'm pretty sure the areas that matter the most on his gloves are 3/8" wider then MR's gloves, which should give me plenty of wiggle room to still flex my wrist into the firing position mode. Zabana's glove would be the ideal one to go with if it weren't so expensive.. I think Imay just pickup a pair of Mike's, see how they fit when they arrive and if they don't, I'll finish em off with paint assemble the fingers slap a hinge on em and flip em to someone else, then commit to Zabana's, but I'm 75% sure Mike's will work

For me, the size of the glove might be ok, but the length of the fingers is surely to short.

I got wind of a set of L/XL sized gloves in a few months, I will have to wait and see. Plus I have time until my suit comes in.

Is the helmet hinged and motorized? Thanks

No, but possibly someday, Masked Rider's faceplates are too heavy, I would almost have to send the one I have now off to be scanned and 3d printed, then re-inforce it and then it could be.. that or just buy a totally new helmet which I may do :p

I've messed around here and there with some small servos in testing on my MaskedRider Iron Man helmet and it worked just fine with the helmet and faceplate. The fact that it's so solid and thick makes it a better, tighter fit when it closes, has a nice *THUNK!* sound to it, and keeps it pretty safe. The only thing I see that may give a small issue is the magnets, but I haven't experienced much. I wish I had it all together assembled still, I'd post a video, but it did work!

I wish I had a full suit to work on fitting...the measurements of the Mark IV fits my body PERFECTLY even being 6 foot 5 inches tall....I'd practically kill for it.... o_O

I have ordered the motorized kit and hinge parts from TheRealStark, so once I get my MR helmet, I will be working to get it installed in there. Will see how it goes. Last notice is my parts are ready to be cast, so hopefully, on the home stretch for my suit to arrive.

Hey there guys, so I've been absent quite a bit, lot of stuff going on IRL... but I had my suit re-painted to a color match scheme... when I got it back, it was just wrong.. So I did some research found a suitable color and here I have it on my Helmet... just the gold.. this will be the color I use on all the other gold pieces as well... Let me know what you think, and hopefully within the next 2 weeks I'll have a batch of updates concerning my legs.

From the photos, it looks like this is a more mirror type gold plating vs the original, which looks more of a matte with more yellow on the original helmet.

Looks good man!

You havn't posted anything in quite a while, have you finished the suit, how does it look? I love what I see. I should really check the dates, sorry man. Still look awesome.....:lol

Most of the times when you see him in his mark VI in Iron Man 2 and The Avenger's he has that gold metallic mirrored look to his suit, it only looks like that on here because of my crappy camera lol in person it looks alot better lol

Let me rephrase, when I said vs the original, I meant the original MR helmet, not the movie helmets! Your new paint is closer to the movie, with the shininess to it.

Yeah I got ya now, and I agree lol, it's going to look odd on the whole suit so I'll have to do some weathering on it, ordered a case of the paint I used so I'll be starting on that in a week and a half or so.

Very nice gold paint, what brand/type did you use?

Thanks Matt, glad you like it!! It's Krylon Premium Gold Foil Metallic in an 8 oz aerosol can, I believe it was about $5.99, picked it up at hobby lobby here in Michigan. Liked it so much figured a case was the way to go. If you're interested in ordering some I have the info I can pass along to you straight from Krylon customer support.

i have used krylon gold before (long ago) but had issues with its durability. You could actually leave your finger prints imbedded in the paint days after it had been painted. Have you had any similar issues?

I did the day after I painted it.. I was trying to handle it carefully and put it back on the helmet and I picked up my thump only to find a giant print... When I first tested it out on my test surface I waited about a week for it to fully dry before touching it and no prints were left... so I figured a good two weeks would be sufficient for the helmet. I wanna try and put a clear coat over it but I'm afraid it will take away some of the color, so I'll try that on my test piece before I move forward with it ont he actual helmet.

you should be ok, I wouldn't use a lacquer base clear coat as it may eat at the gold. Use a enamel or acrylic base clear, they take longer to fully cure than a lacquer but they won't harm the paint . Normally you should use paint and clear with the same base, lacquer paint/lacquer clear, enamel paint/enamel clear but the cheaper metallic paints are sensitive and the lacquer clear may eat or dull the gold.

Well I used a krylon poly-urethane clear coat on one of of other test colors which was also of the krylon brand, originally it claimed to be a gold finish but came out as more of a copper finish... threw some clear on and it darkened it down.. :\ so we'll see what it does to this gold finish, it wouldn't hurt it to be a bit darker.

just got my mk3 from leslee, this thread is definitely a life savour!

im 5'9, the lower legs seems a bit tight near the knees. Wondering if my calf is too big or my legs are too short for the suit. Anyone else have problems with a tight fitting lower leg?

Re: Iron Man Mark VI MaskedRider Armor Kit WIP

I'm confused. I thought Leslee's suits already came with the Arc Reactor / LED lights already pre-installed? Would I have to install my own Arc Reactor? (I plan on getting one of his suits soon.)
Yeah, head over to "The Junkyard" and start a "WTB" (want to buy) thread request the hands and shoe covers. As for the lights I'm using BMW Angel eye halo LEDs. Just search for those on ebay... the ones I ordered are as follows: This is a 60mm diameter http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7431/8809361172_fa60421a1b.jpgThis is the 40mm diameter, this one will go inside the middle of the 60mm and act as my arc reactor... these 40mm rings are also really great for the gloves, just find a semi opaque acrylic circle to help dim the LED a bit and you'll be set to go.http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3690/8809316252_ceed91466c.jpg
