iron man mark vi build

progress pics...there may be fit issues...my head won't fit though the neck hole of the brace. Does anyone know if this is normal and if so does it need a seam?

I also haven't finished the back of the brace where the 'spine' of the neck seal goes until I sort out articulation.
 
Also I ended up going with the MKIV since I found an unfold that I didn't have to screw around with.
 
wow JMar that is coming along nicely ... your update pics are clearer then mine ... however really exciting stuff ... i am sitting down right now to finish another piece or two hopefully ... lol ... your shoulder bells look really good ... i will get some more status pics up as soon as i have more to show and i will have to look into attaching the neck seal i figured by the size of it that i would have to make it split somehow got some ideas i am working out ... i will let you know cool ...

Hey :) I used "hot melt glue sticks" or more knows as "hot glue gun sticks".

They are basically cylinders (each size of a finger) which are put into a hot glue gun (i use a gas stove in the kitchen).

The glue sticks are heated for about 5 seconds above the flame which makes the end of it liquidy but still solid (like dense honey or nutella).

I then press that part of the glue stick into the area of where I want the magnet to be. After I do that (for about 3 seconds) I place the magnet on top of the small pile of glue gun stick (melted) that is now in the place inside my helmet and press it (the magnet) down firmly.

I then use the glue stick to cover the whole magnet all the way around in glue. After a minute the glue around the magnet will be completely solid.

My explanation above migt not be very clear. If you want tomorrow I could post some tutorial pictures :)

My progress: Well, I just glued together a Right Bicep. Took me 2 hours to cut out and 3 hours to glue together.

Great progress, again! I see you have done a lot fo work so far. AT least more than me ;)

I am hoping to do shoulders next (both) and then do the neck-shoulder covers (the ones you have lready done).

I am also going to have a person helping me with cutting and gluing hopefully in the near future which should speed up my process :)

Are you any good at making peped stuff smooth and do you know how to paint the iron man pieces so they would look realistic and metallic (with right colour codes ect)?
 
I haven't taken on a project like this before but I;m confident in my ability to fill, sand, smooth and paint.

Thats great! I wish all the best of luck. I am unfortunately am unable to fill, sand, smooth OR paint very well. Guess practise makes it perfect ;)
 
hey JMar .. I don't think you will want someone to log into your facebook to see your other works ... I would like to see them though try o share them in another way cool
 
use photobucket. its free and after you upload a picture it automatically gives you links to that pic in varios forms for varios purposes. great website and you never have to pay :)
 
Updates:

Chest piece and back piece misalignment.

Has anyone else done the MK4/MK6 Back yet? Based on the folds I don't know where the mistake was made...

I still have to add the recessed areas on the right side of the chest piece but it's essentially done.
 
Heej JMar, just made the chest aswell I will let you know how my back will fit to it.. did you use the supports? cause when I added them it changed the general shape of my chestpiece a tad, might be the solution to your problems..

I also finished the brace, but my head doesn't fit so I have to redo it and scale it up a tad.
 
earlier in this thread 'brimstone' mentioned a seam is required on the shoulders of the brace.

Re: the back...in one of the pics the misalignment is pretty clear, The pep. shows everything should line up but based on what I've cut and folded it does not compute...boo
 
I am running into the misalignment issue as well with the shoulder straps for the back as well and am redoing it to make them fit better ... i found that the mistake was when i was biulding the straps i started the outer portion of the strap first and already connected it to the back plate then built and connected the inner raised strap so it caused the alignment to be off by a little ... on the rebuild i am going to build the inner strap first then attach the outer strap to that piece by piece ... it should correct the alignment issue then i will attach it to the back plate ... i will have to complete that and take some update pics to show you if it works or not ... mine again was only off by maybe 4/16 of an inch and i beleive it had alot to do with how i attached the shape cuts in the the inner strap at each piece and how much of the flap i glued together ... very easy to gauge incorrectly and it will then throw off the rest of the attached pieces by enough to cause that misalignment ... hope that helps
 
man your telling me ... i have had to redo a couple of the parts to make sure that the alignment was correct ... that was why i asked you about the helmet lines ... it was killing me to have to cut those parts out every time ... but what can you do ... as a wise man once said "do or do not there is no try" ... lol ... i fugure it will happen alot the first time we build these things

did anyone think of the repuslors and lchest light yet? I am thinking ahead for now and I cant solve this problem :confused
 
wow so i got most f my helmet done and found that a couple pieces do not fit at all like hey are backwards ... i also noticed most everyone else's helmets have the numbered side face out and i did mine with the numbers faced inward i think that may have alot to do with it ... i am gonna try to mod it and see if it will work otherwise gotta do the helmet all over again

try to use the 3d model and the 2d lay out in pepeakura to glue things together instead of using the Edge Ids. I never use them.

I just click on the part on the 3d model which highlights it on the "D view and then o can drag my mouse onto it to see what parts go to what side of the piece. I can also do the same but only on the 3D model view rather than 2D. It saves me a lot of time
 
ok so after some intense thought and serious disappointment in how the helmet and back turned out i will be redoing them but will have a much better product the second time around as now i see how it goes together ...
neck seal - 100% pepped
hand plates both sides - 100% pepped
collar plate - 100% pepped
back - 85% repepping
helmet - 90% repepping

just an update of where i stand ... it hard to find time after finding out i am going to be a dad again ... she needs more of my time ... lol
