IRON MAN Hall of Armor W.I.P. Updates

Re: IRON MAN Hall of Armor W.I.P.

Looks like MK 7 with more gold to me ? Look at the shoulders and gaunts, it's very similar. However the chest seems slightly different. I'd go with MK 7 pep file as a base if I were you ! And wait for a better shot too :p

Yeah, I am going to wait on a full shot, or at least one from the best up before I start.

Re: IRON MAN Hall of Armor W.I.P.

A quick update, I now will be coating the insides of every armor with leather. I know it's not like that in the movie but, I thought it would give it a more expensive look.

Re: IRON MAN Hall of Armor W.I.P.

I am trying to scale the MK VII armor pep files, and I can't get it right! Can any one help me with tips? Is there anyone out there thats 6'2 and medium build that have already found numbers for the right scaling? This would help a lot!

Re: IRON MAN Hall of Armor W.I.P.

Curious about the leather... What made you decide that? Have you looked into pricing on that much leather? I would think that would increase your budget two or threefold

Re: IRON MAN Hall of Armor W.I.P.

won't it be too hot with leather inside ? It's not exactly breathable I think, I don't know if it will be very comfy...
About scaling, I'm 6'1 and I can tell that 10% up for the forearm was too tight with 10mm foam, and I had to make it longer by hand too. I have a 20% up I'll cut out this afternoon, I'll let you know how it is. For the rest of the parts, I think 10 or 15% should do it, I do have long arms but the rest should be OK. You can also look in the 2D window to see how wide the piece is when assembled and compare it to your measurements, but I wouldn't trust it 100% : 10% forearm in paper did fit, but I didn't think of the thickness of the foam, so don't forget that neither...

Re: IRON MAN Hall of Armor W.I.P.

I've actually thought about doing this myself. Granted I don't have the thousands of dollars to spend on robotics equipment for 8 different suits, I figure it would take me a solid 4 years just to do that. I don't think I can do the "suit me up" mechanisms because I don't have that kind of space or programming knowledge, but I plan on learning as I go, starting with my current Mark VII build.

Since my girlfriend requires a lot of my attention (women... hmph), it's gonna take awhile. Hope you get to accomplish this. And hopefully you can share some of your programming knowledge to those of us with the same dream but less training. :p

Re: IRON MAN Hall of Armor W.I.P.

Have you considered automotive headliner as a lining for the suit? It'd soften the fit, still be breathable, and jive with the overall aurtomotive look of the armor.

Yes, but I figured since Iron Man is all flashy and fancy I would go with a fancy car look, which made me stick with the leather interior. Thanks for the suggestion though.

I will definitely share what I learn after this build! And Good Luck on your build!

Thanks! That just saved me a ton of time!

Here is my plan I am sticking to this time for the "Suit Up" part:

Now I will actually start building it!

Re: IRON MAN Hall of Armor W.I.P.

That will take some serious space. Looking forward to the finished wall of suits :) Any progress pics to share already?

On the armors yes, on the rest no, I am waiting to finish one of the armors so I know how the pieces work and what sizes to make everything.

Re: IRON MAN Hall of Armor W.I.P.

This is rather insane, but gives me hope for my S.H.I.E.L.D. theme "man cave" once I move.

Re: IRON MAN Hall of Armor W.I.P.

I am about to get started on some of the arcs, and before I begin, does anyone have an good technique to make it? I need a high quality expensive way and a cheap way. Thanks!

Re: IRON MAN Hall of Armor W.I.P.

For pre-Mk VI armors with the old arc reactor, there is Xrobot's tutorial (when in doubt, check his website, he's like a swiss knife for DYI prop making !) : XRobots.co.uk - Iron Man Arc Reactor
Looking forward to see some progress.
When I see that one single biceps take me 7 hours to make, without any coating, I think I'd need half a year, working full time to do what you do !

Thanks for the link! Yeah it used to take me a while but getting into a rhythm helps speed it up:)

Re: IRON MAN Hall of Armor W.I.P.

I had some free time last night so I decided to make an arc reactor real quick with some junk that was around. It was just a quick test one, so no detail was added. This one probably won't be in any of my suits but it was fun making.

Re: IRON MAN Hall of Armor W.I.P.

I plan to do all of the Mark I by hand but, I wanted to pep the helmet. Does anyone have a file for that?
