I'm a little worried that real metal may betray a faux metal paint job on the model.

I thought the same. But if I make it thin/sleek enough and designed the way I'm thinking. I could probably pull it off. If not I can fab something else up.

I've been tinkering with the idea of doing a run of display stands for these for some time. I'd love to hear if anyone has any ideas. I have three ideas that I would have trouble discribing, but they involve three different materials. What material do you think would compliment the screw best?

1. Wood
2. Clear acrylic
3. Metal (brushed aluminum)

I think you're right about the metal clashing with the faux metal of the screw. Especially if people paint the screw with flat metallic paint. I think a simple black stand would work best. Maybe a black ABS plastic stand? Something with a nice design doesn't need to be fancy, or expensive.
