Interesting article on new xbox

Better make sure not to have the blinds up when you're having sex, the government might record you from their satellites and put it up on the net.

Looks like EA Games is going to throw Microsoft under the bus and distance themselves from this DRM Implementing fiasco. They realize consumers are going to speak with there wallets. Disrupting the popular “EA and Microsoft are in cahoots to ruin used games” narrative haunting comment threads everywhere, EA chief operating officer Peter Moore has said EA had nothing to do with the Xbox One’s licensing policies and hasn’t even figured out whether to get involved. Link EA did not lobby for Xbox One?s used game DRM | VG247 Al P.S. Sorry about the wall of text I can’t seem to clean it up.

Like those guys pointed out he said they didn't "aggressively" lobby. They had something to do with it though no doubt and are now trying to save themselves.

I don’t for a second believe that EA had no part in this! Don A. Mattrick President of the Interactive Entertainment at Microsoft came directly from Electronic Arts. It is entertaining to see these lying Corporate money-grubbing scumbags try to dodge the consumer outrage this whole Kinect issue has started, they know the consumer (will speak with his wallet) and it has them all running scared. Kinect was designed for one reason only, to track and trace your browsing and gaming habits. Kinect has verified one too many people are watching this movie Pay UP or loose your gold account. This royal piece of Kinect trash is not entering my household. Al

If you think it couldn't come to that, those are some mighty powerful blinders you go there. Just look around.

Xbox...... get lost.

If I don't like a product, I don't buy it. It's really simple...

Same reason I didn't buy SW on bluray.

Most people will get that, others either won't hear the news or will refuse to believe. Right up to and after point of sale.

They buy it, hook it up... *WTF?!* "it's not working!" - THEN they will complain :p

and wait for XBOX-2

Pssst, the Xbox 2 aka Xbox 360 came out 8 years ago ;)

In fairness, I think that's more of an individual decision. It may be getting screwed over to you, but other people may not see it that way. I mean, I get that you find it HIGHLY objectionable that you cannot transfer your games to someone else (or at least, can't do so easily). But what about people who never buy used games, never trade games, and never bring games to each others' houses and such? For them, the "no used games" thing (which isn't even as clear-cut as that) is no big deal. Same goes for someone who always has their console hooked into the internet.

I mean, right now, my X360 is "always on" in terms of the internet connection. I power it up, it signs me in to XBL. The only times it doesn't do that are in the VERY rare occasions where something screwy is happening with my router, or where XBL's own servers are taken down for maintenance or whatever. If you're someone who has a pretty consistent connection, then again, these issues aren't really that objectionable.

You kinda made my point here but ill retell it anyways.

So... what about people who are always on the internet anyway? Ill tell you. Its been said before. When it is down for service. Your console will be useless. Its not really a strong argument to make. Thats one of my main gripes asides the used games thing. My router has to work. My isp cant be doing maintenence. Neither can microsoft. Nor can they be down like sony was when it was hacked. I dont see how anyone would be ok with this. If they were id question their sanity. Why buy something if your not bothered about it working all the time?
Its not about what shouldnt happen or what would probably happen. Its what could happen. No one looks at the bigger picture.

If people are ignorant to these issues and even though it may not really affect them. And they dont care about not playing if anything connection wise happens. Then poor them. Because they will be affected down the line when the company stops making enough money. Because 75 percent of people do see it as an issue. And by the time they realise. Itll be too late because the console becomes second rate.

And in this business once you drop a clanger. Its extremely hard to recover. I believe the ps4 would have struggled to strive if ms didnt drop the ball. I like their console idea. But building a great console isnt enough. You need reputation. Ps3 Had the big server issues when they almost gave everyones details away. Their own version of the rrod. But its the main contender asides xbox. So now they have a chance to pull infront. As users have no where else to go.

Hey, I'm not saying it isn't an issue, nor that it isn't possible. But I think what you'll find is that, put simply, not everyone is as concerned about it as you are. I also expect that, if there comes a day when XBL goes down for maintenance or whathaveyou, people will just suck it up. They'll gripe, but at that point, what are they gonna do? They already bought the box. And while it's POSSIBLE that this will happen, ask yourself how many times in the life of your console you've been unable to get online. Or even just unable to get online in a particular game.

For example, I can remember times when Battlefield Bad Company 2 was unavailable for multiplayer, due to server issues on DICE's end. Know what I did then? I turned off the console and went and did something else. I suspect that's what people will do. People might gripe, but I think the only way that'd REALLY screw folks is with an awful launch where the servers are overloaded, or with some extended outage of service. And even if there's a bad launch, the console will survive. I mean, people still play Diablo 3 and Sim City. People still bought those games even after an atrocious launch.

I don't disagree with you. I think MS really screwed up with this. Their "always on" factor is a minor concern for me, but a concern nonetheless. I've never had a true ISP outage or a router issue I couldn't fix. I've not had extended outages of XBL, either, other than "We're taking it down from 9am to 3pm Eastern for maintenance."

However...

I have no desire in purchasing something that will one day become a brick.

...Jeyl raises a good point. At some point in the future, the console WILL be a brick, unless MS changes its policy, assuming they eventually stop supporting online access via the unit. Once that happens, yeah, it's a brick. This stands in contrast to, say, an old NES (assuming it still works).

Other than graphics i personally think the old systems are still superior tech. I'm buying a spare ps3 and xbox 360 just in case these fail at any point. There's too much crap in these that can go wrong. That's why i always wait a few years before getting new systems. I got the original playstation new and it died in under 2 years with that lens reading issue that made you have to play it while it was upside down. Mind you it was also the system that you could do the disc swap on.
The funny part is there are enough after market and spare parts for the old cartridge systems for them to run another 50 years assuming it's not something going bad on the motherboards. And you can fix alot of the stuff yourself without a phd.

I actually made a few phone calls asking about pre orders. The PS4 is way ahead. The employee I spoke to said its crazy. I'm gonna plop down my $100 for mine very soon.

You're for real? Like, really real?

Yes I am very real.

About your tin-foil hat comment, You cannot, with any honesty or personally Integrity guarantee to anyone that this

Unplug your webcam. Or stick a post-it note over it. Problem solved.

The xbone won't work with the kenect unplugged and I don't want a game console that I have to worry about covering up the camera and plugging up the microphone. A few years ago this would have seemed like tin hat sort of stuff, but these days.... You can't tell me the NSA isn't drooling over the possibilities.

If that is the road you chose to walk, that's fine dude. I just find it overly paranoid. Do you chose to eschew smart phones as well, given that they are just as vulnerable?

supposedly if you block the xbox one's built in cam and mic it won't run just like if you turn off the kinnect. It's mandatory surveillance. It's also a sign that the american people are so brainwashed that they'll accept just about anything if you package it up nicely enough. We might as well just give up privacy at this point.
