Interesting article on new xbox

Actually usually when DRM fails it's because their servers suck. Look at Simcity and Diablo 3, between features not working at all and their servers sucking hard it's no wonder they got a backlash. DRM is just a way to make cash and they'll keep pushing it until we gamers show them to get over themselves. EA seems to have at least learned a bit from the simcity failure. When i got a used copy of mass effect 2 i had to buy a code for the cerberus network but it was dirt cheap because the game was already old.

Due to a move I no longer have high speed internet at home and am in fact at using the Wi-Fi at my local library to write this. My XBOX 360 is offline. If the "always on" scheme applied to my current system, as of last June,I would have a very expensive brick sitting in my living room and an even more expensive collection of games. Maybe I could use them as coasters.

Unless Microsoft changes the always on policy, I can't and won't own an XBOX ONE.

As to used games, if someone buys a game they should be able to do whatever they want with it. Sell it, loan it, or give it away.

If I buy a car, a FORD for example, FORD doesn't require their permission for me to sell it. And they certainly don't require a GPS system or some other electronic device to check in with them once every 24 hours and then shut down if it doesn't.

Microsoft is essentially saying with these policies tht when you shell out $60 for a game you are in fact now RENTING it. If that's the case and I now need their permission on what I do with a game I bought and paid for, then slash ther price.

I remember several occasions where XBL has gone down and MS has made good on their customers when it has happened. Ala this situation from back in the day. XBL had extended downtime so everyone got a free game. xbox live down time compensation? - GameSpot.com

I have no doubt there will be issues, nothing ever runs perfectly all the time. But my gold subscription hasn't done me wrong yet and I don't expect this to change that.

It's not like Sony didn't own up during the fiasco when their servers got hacked and PSN was done for a while. THREE free games to choose from a select list (a few that were AAA), a free month of PS+ and some other small bonuses as well. XBL Gold subscribers got what? Undertow? I subscribe to both XBL Gold and PS+. I have to for the 360 if I want to play multiplayer or do any type of streaming. PS+ is because of all the great perks that it gives.

And as I said earlier in this thread, I know you have to subscribe to PS+ in order to play multiplayer on the PS4 but I have absolutely no problem of doing so because of how the service is run. My XBL Gold runs out in the summer of next year and unless there are really, really good exclusive 360 games until then, I most likely will let it lapse.

I've got a perfectly good reason to buy an XB One over a PS4. I like Halo more than I like any Sony exclusive. For me it's really that simple.

Im not sure me and you or you and everyone else would share that view of 'perfect' reason. You realised you just stated the reason for buying that console was for one game. Not everyone can afford that luxury of funds. Most people would want reliable with a stable future then to play one game every couple of years that isn't even that good anymore. And multiplayer is just the same but with different maps. Yeh yeh Spartan ops is new big whoop. I've never felt the same since 3 to be honest. Its a reason. But I'd hardly call it perfect. MS is hardly going bust. But a lot of peoples minds will be changed based on general public vote. They wanna be where the partys at. You may be waiting in matchmaking, or playing against the wrong skill cos there aint enough to go around.

Infact I've just saved the whole amount of an xbox one potentially. Keep my xbox 360. Don't buy the x one. Cos halo will probably release on that too! Theres a perfect reason to not buy it!

The used game situation isn't a situation. It's being left up to publishers, who I very highly doubt will want to rock the boat any further at this point. Frankly, the fact they they are allowing you to share digital content at all is amazing.

Source for it being left up to publishers? I've definitely read that MS has to allow the sale first, it then goes to the publishers. Are they going to put me on their whitelist to sell my games on to my friends. Or ebay? If not I see the second hand games devaluing horrendously. Because the big companies know the people cant sell anywhere else.

Who cares about the connection thing. I mean I do but I get most don't. But I also care about borrowing and trading games. I haven't got the cash to buy every new game as it releases. So all the buddies split and just all buy the main ones for co op.

People nowadays don't give a damn about the future. As long as they're not being bothered personally. Give them an inch and they will take a mile. I hope MS has a terrible launch. Then they may be forced to come back with something better. Cos it'd be a shame for me never to have an xbox again. I've had loads of hours of fun from my 360.

Well MS at one point said they'd leave it up to the publishers once they saw the backlash that was happening but they're in bed with the publishers for all this stuff. They just wanted to cover their butts. I liked the look of that Titan mecha game utnil i saw it was online only MP. I'm glad EA doesn't have franchises i'm big on cause they're going to DRM and online only themselves into a grave.

i always wonder how accurate it is when the person wants to stay anonymous. Makes it hard to prove either way, though the early ones with the always on internet were right. The dude is full of crap the entire point it to rip folks off, i doubt they have any model like Stream set up and you'd be amazed how many folks hate stream. Gamers want to hold their discs and using Gamestop's crap tradein values isn't a good excuse because i can trade games in at locally owned places for other games or a fairly good price. Believe nothing an MS employee says. And calling folks who aren't hot on your DRM stuff "simpleminded for not seeing the big picture" isn't helping.

I think they're just looking for DRM systems that work to compare it to in order to calm folks down.

The guy actually brought up a good point regarding Steam, and that's the sales. I've got a LOT of content on Steam, and I bought almost all of it at ridiculously low prices during one of their sales. I would be VERY surprised to see Microsoft do something similar on XBL, in terms of having massive seasonal events with prices 75-90% off for major AAA titles. That's why people go to Steam, not because it's "DRM that works". DRM's an afterthought when you buy a game for five bucks.

Speaking of which, Steam's Summer Sale should be starting here in a few weeks. Usually kicks off around July 4th. We can compare some of the sales to what those same games are selling for on Xbox Live. That would be a good comparison of the services that are "so much alike", shouldn't it?

OMG I call MEGA BS! There's absolutely no way that MS is going to sell you the game at cost even if you download it. Just no way. They're not going to give up their $59.99 (or possibly $69.99 for next gen). Just complete BS. They have been telling PC gamers this for the last 10 years ever since Steam came out. I have yet to see a game that you could download for cost and not $49.99-59.99.

I agree. Look at the xbox live marketplace download price. if you get it for 10.00 less than the disk you're lucky, not to mention all the way overpriced arcade games they sell.

I would greatly love to see the PS4 in a side by side head to head real-time comparison with Xbox One at Best Buy.

Al
Digital Foundry will be all over that. They do a lot of very in-depth head-to-head comparisons for the current-gen, although as the generation has matured, the games became more and more similar to the point where you can't really tell the difference with them running side by side. I think that's going to change next-gen, with more visible and obvious differences between the two, given the bigger gap in power this time around.

I just read an article on Forbes that has a source claiming the PS4 is outselling the XB1 two to one on Amazon, but it was not confirmed by Amazon.

I have both a 360 and PS3 but I don't play anywhere near a such as I did many years ago. I am definitely not buying either new console for the foreseeable future.
