Not sure how you can read Jedifyfe's reply and not see sarcasm.

Imagine that you've spent fifteen years on comic book message boards getting reamed by mouth-breathers who don't and can't understand the challenges of a creator/publisher and you'll either quit or develop a very thick skin.

Imagine further you've spent five years here reading everything, including Brad's posts and are up-to-date on his personal posting style. Further, you're familiar with Mel's linking to retronaut all the time and her other OT posts. I'd say in that context, it'd be clear that we're just reading good-natured ribbing of someone who's married into the community. :lol

Wouldn't you rather the forum be a nicer, friendlier place, one that treats wayward newcomer's and ill-informed posts with courtesy and respect?

False dilemma. It already is a more than sufficiently nice, friendly place, which treats newcomers (wayward or otherwise) and ill-informed posts with, frequently, excessive tolerance.

Nothing but a bunch of crybabies posting in this thread.

Wait...DAMMIT!!!!!!

Awesome!! :thumbsup :lol

I may not have quite read everything in the 6 years I've been here, but I do know Brad's posting style; as for Mel, I've not read enough by her to get a definitive sense for her intent. My apologies for not agreeing with you, and with Brad's style, but I still default to "nice mode" when a situation like this comes up, regardless of how long someone's been a member of the community/family/whatever-we-want-to-call-it. My extended family is full of folks who like to toss out vocal jabs and "good-natured" quips, and I simply don't care for it. Why be snarky/sarcastic, when a friendly answer is just as quick?

Perhaps sufficiently nice and friendly for your needs/demands, but not necessarily those of everyone else.

I only saw the 3PO/R2 image from Indy a couple years ago, on this board, and I saw the movie when it was in theaters as a child.

Lighten up, guys. She saw something she didn't know about before and was excited to share. Move on.

Not everyone likes anchovies on their pizza, either; a slight I find as personally offensive as folks with thin skins. :lol

Speaking for myself... a vocal jab, a good-natured quip, a cutting remark delivered with laser-like precision, a honest and heartfelt observation, a hard truth delivered with a soft blow to the ego... all of these require an alacrity of mien and an agility of mind (as well as a fortified spirit) that I find severely lacking in the lowest-common-denominator, vanilla presentation of thought you are advocating. Although, in this specific case, I don't agree that Brad was being unfriendly.

I am of the mind that I would rather be loved or hated as then folks are responding with a passion, rather than "Oh, he's a friendly, unassuming sort." I'd be bored out of my gourd, presenting myself that way to the world.

I am the human anchovy. :lol

IIRC the Communications Decency Act was thrown out for the same reasons I disagree with your post. :)

I don't care if one side needs to ride in to save the poor damsel.....

Larry, just so you know (because I like you and consider you a friend) I'm not on either side of this.

I'm not attacking the 'old guard' (because I'm one of them) nor an I defending the OP.

I'm simply on the side of Chivalry, and saying that a little of it goes a long way. Being nice keeps my mellow happy. Don't bring me down man.

Holy Cow. What controversy, over little me?

Would you all feel better if I apologized for my original post?
Would it reduce you'd blood pressure a little?

If so then:
To all those whom I offended, I am sorry.

I am simply amused by all of you that felt I was attacking the OP. Its neat to see people with such thin skin but big bravado. I look at the posts here and just wonder what is going through your minds...it's quite interesting.

I look forward to the day when one of you is put in the same position as I am and then look to be supported, but more than likely that won't happen because you will not last here.

Don't include me in the hug, I am actively disappointed by this outcome. Brad has clearly felt browbeaten into an insincere apology. It's the worst of all worlds.

Nah, I don't feel browbeaten at all. I'm a big boy and I can take ribbing and I do understand how people feel the need to be Internet 'heroes'. It's all good.

I will let the people who feel insulted by my posts determine in their own minds whether my apology was sincere, sarcastic, bullyish or just down right rude.... Hint, it's one of those. :)

Is it me or has the OT section turned into the RPF member b*tch and moan at each other section? I didn't know about a lot of the stuff Mel posts so I found it interesting. Other than saying that I'm staying out of this. Also I never heard the term butthurt until I started dating my girlfriend.

Hey, read the paper, Cobalt; the whole country is like this now.

Also, look out for Michael to ask you to change your "b*tch" to "*****" as he made me change my Rebellion Barbie quote because "everyone" was getting offended. So quitcher bitching. :lol
