Early Indiana Jones

Just dug this old book out of storage that I've had since the mid 70's and saw this cool pic of a character from an old 1940's serial that to me is the closest inspiration to our very own Indiana Jones. Sure we have Bogart, Heston, etc, but this one is spot on.

Yes.

Alan Ladd in CHINA was another very close inspiration. His name was even Jones.

I'm sure he was too, but Ladd Jr was not a producer, he just rallied for SW to be made.

Clearly Spielberg and Lucas read the same books and watched the same tv shows and movies, which to me is a real good thing as Indy's look is just perfect right.
