Indiana Jones - Golden Fertility Idol - New Sculpt

You know… I said I was finished, done. But every time I think I’m done, it drags me back IN !

After studying the images and comparing again I needed to make a few small adjustments to perfect it.

As I have said before, it is very difficult to replicate the exact camera angles and perspective of the original images. I have found that a very slight difference in camera lens tilt can cause a magnified distortion of the image making certain areas look larger or smaller rather dramatically

I will post more images and examples shortly.

Could this possibly be an example of that? This is about the only discrepancy that I can see with your sculpt - the butt of the original idol seems much more short and "squat" in proportion.

Thanks for looking so close and caring...

Yes. I have studied that butt in great detail... not a a pervy way... ; )
...and found that it does appear different in many views. Have a look at this to get some idea of the "apparent" variation.

The shadows and reflections on the GOLD Idols make the edges seem very square and hard edged... but note the semi rear 3/4 view of the PropStore Idol and see the rounder profile...

I am refining the hair break at the rear a bit. Early in the sculpt I noticed that the hair edge/angle did not appear as sharp and straight as some idol replicas and I tried to show the slight wave and rounding it seem to have but I think it is too strong on my sculpt and will revise.

Will need to check everything again when I get some gold on this thing,

I may have to finish up and cast a piece to test before I finalize.

after a bit more refinement...

I did not try to get poses or lighting correct, just wanted to test the sculpt against hero images and see overall progress.

I adjusted the rear hair and hands and butt after close study of all the images again. I think these modifications are much closer and accurate.

I am still reworking and refining some small details. Need to smooth out and perfect some areas.

Let me know thoughts!

The only thing I don't like is the lower mouth lines. They should connect to the upper cheek lines and be slightly less pronounced.

Thanks for the observations.

I believe the lighting is making that area look more pronounced than it is. In some views the "frown" lines look stronger than others.

Note the image at LEFT. The lower mouth "frown" lines appear smoother and more blended... different lighting only.

Also note the HERO images that show the lines being stronger.

I believe that many IDOL reproductions accentuate these lines because the see the heavy shadows and think they are the actual lines. May be where the "frown" mouth version comes from. ?

I find lighting and perspective amazing.

Note the difference in the appearance of the baby in the two lower LEFT images compared to the other PropStore images. The expression is completely different. The heads and hands look like they are from a different IDOL... The smirk is gone. ; ) Then compare to the glazed over GOLD HERO images that have lost a lot of detail. The face is more alien like. ...maybe intentional...

Very interesting.

Different castings and different clean up also contribute to the differences IMO.

If only one source was used you would get an entirely different IDOL.

Yes, you are corrects Sir, because of the mold he acquired, there was no pun intended and it also inspired members to use sculpting techniques without molds, that's inspiring..!!

Oh you mean Gobler, the member who made such an amazing idol that it inspired people to make an exact idol? Yeah, Jeff has made it possible for us all to strive to attain such a relic....
