As the finalization of this inches closer and list begins to fill, I will change this from "interest" to "limited run".

I am (still) going to exactly replicate the compass as seen in this picture:

I will now go for a version V2, which will is planned to incorporate the following changes:
- Correct height of 16.5mm (40mm diameter is set)
- Tin bronze like the original Antikythera mechanism (using CuSn12)
- Key mechanisn made in bronze too (unless you like resin)
- Two part compass, so the top can be rotated (in the two good screenshots position of outer ring letters moves in relation to pin hole).
- Finalizing Mother of Pearl face, probably MOP veneer for the rose.
- I use some off the shell oval beads and chains, but everything else is custom made (especially the "sinker" beads and "crown").

The list is now for everyone interested in the full bronze V2/mother of pearl version (at 200,00€ + shipping): *

The "Deluxe" full bronze version of the compass (with chain) will be 200.00€* plus shipping

*V2 body (two parts) and bronze mechanism (several individual production steps) prices are absolute minimum I can have them produced at (no R&D/Setup costs calculated).

If that is too steep please DM me about the possibility to save some money with a brass or resin mechanism. I would still keep you on the list.

If that is still too much, I would remove you from the list and you can check for more affordable versions later:

I will put the chain (incl. crown/pin) on ebay later for 50.00€ + 15.00€ shipping to the US.

Also the V1 version for 100.00€ + shipping (plus 20.00€ for resin key mechanism). Will also make a great display piece, it is just brass, not bronze, 1mm less tall and has no rotatable top.

Compass bodies are here and got some aging and will receive a slightly matte look then.

Other parts still will take some time, but as you can see I am fully committed to make it happen. Inner mechanism will be included with all compasses and „crown“ as well as the longish beads will be custom made, no compromises making them with off the shelve parts.

The bodies set me back some 40€ each, mostly setup costs for a small run. Mother of pearl faces will be at least 20€, with custom made crown and inner mechanism the price will end up at $99.

The hand turned beads alone will be 25€ for the chain, plus custom parts, plus getting it together - another $49. Still less than a RockLove dial and with a more accurate chain.

interested.
Will the 3D printed parts also be from metal or resin?
Also would you have the pictures of the other parts?

I plan to have all parts ready early October shipping compasses late October. No payment until I have all parts ready.

Mechanism will probably be resin. Maybe (really very maybe) I might do a version made of milled brass elements, but that would add some $$$.

The compass might fit future graffitilogic‘s dials (and another one) and might even be able to be retrofitted, but I can’t speak for him/them. My assumption that the original dial might have been built around a 40mm compass was at least not completely ridiculed.

More interested in made from full metal, I am thinking about searching informations for the whole thing, and maybe build it in future.

I put you on the list for now. The mechanism seems pretty straightforward, I am looking into making a brass version right now.

interesting.
I suggest you to try to find bronze material, as brass didn't exist when item was supposed to be made.
But I have to watch the movie and study the prop.
If you want to share about it in messages, maybe I can be helpful.

Same here... please put me on the list Kukulcan :) Thanks in advance..

PS ... pics of the process are looking realy nice.. good work. congrats!!

I recently read an excerpt from a book on ancient bronze. There was actually no brass at the time, as that name/the concept of zinc alloy wasn‘t known. All copper alloys were known as bronze, but even if it zinc wasn’t known as a raw material ores containing a pretty big zinc amount were used.

I am proceeding at full steam, but steamboats are no speedboats. I will probably eat the setup costs for making a metal mechanism possible at an acceptable price, but can‘t promise anything.

Also, the first batch of „fishing weight“ beads are ready, so I might sell some chain/crown/pin combos for people owning a resin compass already. They would go for $49 + $15 shipping to the US.

They’ll look great once aged

Brass already existed at least in asia, described as "sentoku" by japanese, derived from chinese emperor "xuande" but I have no idea if that was known before, also no idea if that was used in Europe in ancien greek era.

I updated the first post with infos on V2 and moved the interest list to that post.

I can happily say that one future dial maker will adjust to my compass size (which I am convinced is correct) and graffitilogic is also open to use it, should he even make dials in the future. Bruce does his own thing - really, I don't know about his dial or his plans. My compass model will be open source when complete, so it would really be great if there could be some common agreement on that design or changes made to that version.
