incredible hulk costume build

Shapeways is a company that does 3d printing. They have a forum of people who design and make all kinds of things. They have a ton of different materials that they print from. It's not cheap...but I'm surprised more prop stuff isn't done that way.

I am definitely a huge fan of this project. I plan to apply your concepts into a THING costume. The only thing i cant work out is the rock skin thing...

Rock skin would be fairly easy. Same concept as the hulk skin, only you'd have to stamp/carve the rock texture. I'm considering if the hulk turns out alright then using the same concepts for other builds, Juggernaut perhaps? haha I seen a hulk buster Iron man on here, looks cool. Might try my own hand at it later on if this doesn't turn out to be a bust.
good to have support and encouragement from the people on here.

Harmonic,
Checked out the site, they're pretty good. The Material that says it's the strongest is 1.50/ cm 3(cubed) So you're right, lol won't be cheap. It's still an option, but may be a last option now.

youre right, also i think i can get away with a solid mass rather than individual muscles. and i might not even need stilts, im trying to figure out how tall the thing actually is. list he is 6 ft, but based on what i can tell, he is almost as tall as the hulk

Enough of my jabbering, i will keep my comments purely about this hulk build from now on. :cool

I like the theories i hear and read about in your thread. Have you thought about latex ruber like what the turtles are made from? You can sculpt the muscles from foam and put the latex pieces over them. Here's a hulk pic you might like. Good Luck.

I have thought about the latex rubber, its one of the materials I listed as a potential, though the mask will definitely be silicone. Silicone I believe has more elasticity than the latex, resists tearing

That is a cool pic of the hulk by the way. I've been looking through CL for a free or cheap sfhop table. Already going to be shelling out enough for the project. Trying to keep the costs down. I need to give smooth-on an order for the stuff I'll need to make the mask. that way I can get at least some solid work started. If I go all engineer on the skeleton its going to take some trial and error and studying to learn the cad program. Probably getting a new computer soon for multiple purposes, but will need one with good performance to handle cad

Wonder if I could design the muscles and everything on there...that would allow me to test the movements and see a 3d version before I sculpted the suit.

I just thought of another option for designing my skeleton, pepakura. I've been reading a few threads on here about iron man and halo pepakura builds. Looks like its a pretty cheap and easy way to design/build at least a basic design. Once I did the pep, I could always make a mold and pour a solid resin casting that would likely be strong enough for what I need. Just brainstorming, but what do you think?.could be cheaper than other options

Been checking out auto cad over the past couple days....not likely I'll be using it...depending on what version you get it costs between $500-4,000+.

that all depends, college students (or those still using university email accounts) can get a free one year license from autodesk. all you need is a university issued email address and you are good to go. i don't remember there being a watermark on it but even if there is it shouldn't get in the way if you want to use it for 3d prints. i used it to make drawings for some machined iron man arc reactor pieces and had no problems.

Thanks phaeren, I do plan on taking some classes for it, could land me an ME job. But im also looking at AutoDesk mudbox for a business idea I have. Maybe I can get a discount on AutoDesk inventor. Not sure if itd do what I need. Im new to the cad idea, known about it, but never messed with it. But once i get enough assets built up i plan to go back to school to get a degree in computer 3d animation. So I'll be dealing with stuff like Maya, mudbox, 3ds and maybe even cad. The auto desk lineup is pretty impressive, its really cool what you can do with them.

Neo, thanks glad you like it so far. I just hope that I don't fail at this project. I have more sketches, but need to get some pics taken of them. Soon I'll probably do a more blueprint like drawing of my ideas. Might even make measurements of myself and proportions I want so I can make it more accurate, though I really want to do the final plans on the computer

I love your enthusiasm for this build,I can't wait to see htis project come to light:)
Good luck on your build!!!

Thanks chimmera, I think im as excited to start seeing some progress as you guys. Been talking about doing this for probably 5 years now. Among others; warewolf, demon(with flapping wings), wolverine, and several others. But hulk is one of my favorite characters to draw and seems to be one that no one has really been able to pull off he way id like to see it done. So this is the one i chose to challenge. I made a Cheshire cat for Halloween 2 years ago turned out pretty good, so hopefully this will too
